INTRODUCTION
This presentation intends to shed light on
my past experience of work as a painter in
a warehouse.
This presentation will also take into
consideration the effect that the
environment had on my performance
level.
This presentation will use the
occupational therapy practice framework
for the analysis of the effect that the
environment had on my performance.

PAINTING AS MY
OCCUPATION
Painting can be defined as the “practice of
applying paint, pigment, color or other medium to
a solid surface (support base)”.
In the present day world the genre has much
evolved and applied not only to the painting of
portraits but includes the painting of doors,
windows, building and other related aspects as
well.
I used to work as a painter in a warehouse.
I needed to follow certain steps in order to paint
the doors.
The doors painted by me were subjected to a
closer inspection by our supervisor and then only
they were approved.

PAINTING AS MY OCCUPATION
(CONTINUED……)
The doors that I used to paint were made of wood and
metal and I was required to paint them with traditional
brushes.
I would like to add here I needed a considerable amount of
space for the purpose of painting as I needed to paint the
entire door properly and at the same time ensure that
every portion of the door was coated with paint.
A proper interaction with the other colleagues was
essential as that enabled me to perform in a much better
manner.
The job also required me to have effective visual
perception as well as muscle co-ordination. The ability to
stand for long hours and also to bend was essential for the
job.
The body movements included Joint mobility, two hands,
two feet, eyes.

MY EXPERIENCE AT THE
WAREHOUSE
I was required to work on a part-time
basis at the warehouse.
I was looking to gain some professional
work experience in the field of painting.
The environment of the warehouse was
very congenial for work.
Health and safety standards prescribed
by the government were ardently
followed at the warehouse.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
PRACTICE FRAMEWORK (OTPF)
Mental health and moral treatment forms
an important precept of this framework
(Taylor 2017).
The framework was initially developed in
the United States of America (Grieve and
Maskill 2013).
The framework also takes into consideration
the role of the environment in the
performance of an individual.
The framework is divided into two major
section- domain and process (Taylor 2017).

PERFORMANCE OF AN
INDIVIDUAL
The performance of an individual depends on the
environment, the kind of occupation an individual
is doing and on the person as well (Wagman,
Håkansson and Björklund 2012).
A positive and congenial environment can
increase the performance of an individual whereas
a negative and noisy one can decrease the
performance level (Figueras 2013)l.
An individual is likely to perform in much better
manner if he or she is doing a job which he or she
likes and vice and versa (Figueras 2013).
The performance of an individual also depends on
the character and the personality of that person
(Schell et al. 2013).

OCCUPATION
I was required to paint doors at the
warehouse.
The doors were supposed to be painted
with the paint brushes.
I joined as a part-timer but the amount
of knowledge which I gained was very
significant.
I was given a target of painting more
than 50 doors at the warehouse but that
was easily achievable.

ANALYSIS OF ENVIRONMENTS
AND CONTEXTS
Warehouse has enough space although the
floor is often full and doors are not well
organized and over crowded
The presence of colleagues and clients had an
impact on my performance and concentration.
The warehouse was a shared space and
therefore, the culture of the diverse people
had an impact on me.
The task is bounded by time constraints I will
need to manage this and anticipate being
rushed to ensure that the room is ready for
the next session
