Introduction
Occupational Health and Management Systems of OHM Systems focuses primarily
on the health, safety and welfare of the workforce in an organization. OHS system is required
to have specific OHS policies and procedures to be maintained by the employers of an
organization. If the OHS policies are not maintained in an organization, there might be legal
obligations as by law every organization is bound to follow the OHS policies. In this report as
well, there would be a description of the establishment and maintenance of OHS system in an
organization. The report would include the OHS procedures, acceptance testing and the
comparison against specifications. Further, it would include the procedures for hazard
identification, assessment and control, development and maintenance procedures and
procedures to identify inadequacy and intervention points.

Establish and Maintain an OHS system
OHS procedures
According to the Work Health and Safety Regulations 2011, OHS procedures come
under many different specifications required for the complete management of the OHS
system (Widaningsih, Susanti and Chandra 2018). The safety procedures should be explained
in details to every employee in the organization without fail. It is assumed that the balance
between work, health and safety would uphold the standard of an organization. The OHS
procedure elements are mentioned in brief as follows:

Responsibility of each individual in maintaining safety in the workplace
should be made clear.
A joint occupational health and safety committee must be built up
Health and Safety rules must be mentioned in details
Correct work procedures must be mentioned to the entire workforce
Employee orientation and training must be done in this regard
Workplaces must be inspected before the possibility of any future hazard
arises
Accidents or possibly harmful events must be reported immediately
First aid and emergency procedures must be made ready for any instance
Harmful items with potentiality of causing hazards should be completely
discarded
Health and safety measures must be promoted throughout the organization
Acceptance Testing
The concept of acceptance testing is built around the idea about the implementation of
a new technology, procedure or policy to an organization system and testing how it is being
accepted in the organization amongst the workforce. To apply this acceptance testing it is
required to measure the tolerance level of the workforce with the implemented policy and
procedures. The results need to be documented in details.
It is necessary according to the Work Health and Safety Regulations Act 2011, that
the acceptance of the entire workforce would authenticate the application of any new
technology in the organization, let alone the implementation of OHS policy and procedures
(Widaningsih, Susanti and Chandra 2018).

Comparison against specification
It takes a systematic approach to compare between the OHS specifications of different
organizations. This is generally done to bring out the best specification amongst the different
OHS policies used across various organizations. OHS is basically done on the model of
Planning, Doing, Checking and Acing, comprising of the factors like policy, strategies,
objectives, practices, functions, procedures, and roles (Reese 2015). These determine the
specification of OHS implementation of any organization based on the degree of acceptance
and implementation. Determinant criteria of the comparison depend on various factors of
OHS. These are policy, planning, implementation and checking.

Procedures for Hazard Identification, assessment and control
Identification of Hazards – Hazards that can occur in a workplace environment have
the ability to jeopardise the OHS system. It is required for the administrator to identify these
hazards before they can cause havoc for the workforce (Bonafede et al. 2016). These can be
identified through the following steps:
By inspecting the workplace
Reporting the incidents immediately
Registering evidences of injuries
Employee consultation
Employee feedback
In addition, other issues could identify the hazards in the OHS system. These are,
purchasing of new chemicals or equipments like cleaning agents or plants in the organization,

casual employees like cleaning staff or even clients who could potentially be harmful to the

Risk Assessment – Risk assessment helps in identifying the degree to which the OHS

make an assessment of the risk, it is necessary to consider the following:
The type of the hazard
Consequences of the severity of the hazard on the workforce
Frequency and Duration of the hazard
Affected people in the organization because of the hazard
Skills, age and capability of the people to withstand the effect according to the
hazard
Condition of the working environment
Control of Hazards – Control measures indicate the doable measures taken to
eradicate the risks of possible hazards in the OHS system of the organization (Eriksson,
Strömgren and Dellve 2015). If the hazard cannot be eliminated, then it is most likely that the
entire system be eliminated that causes the hazard.
Develop and Maintain Procedures
Development and maintenance of the OHS procedures are required for the proper
development of a healthy and risk free atmosphere in the organization. To achieve this, it is
necessary to include the management into the system. Correct planning and implementation
is obligatory for the development of the said system (Colby and Corwin 2017). To maintain
the implementation of the OHS system further, it is required to measure and evaluate the
effect of the system. Reviewing the system for further improvements is also requisite for the
maintenance of the system.

Identify inadequacy and intervention points
It is not necessary that all the laws of the OHS system act would be applicable to a
particular organization. It is necessary to identify the level at which the implementation of the

addition, there could be incidences where few factors could intervene the implementation of
OHS system in the company structure, even that from the higher authorities. There would
only be a proper OHS implementation if all the inadequacy and interventions are kept in
mind while implementing the system.

In the end, it can be concluded from the following report that it is essential to
implement the OHS system in an organization, as per the laws suggest. However, it is found
from the report that there are several factors on which the implementation depends.
Implementing the system is not the only way that implementation works, but it is also
necessary to test the acceptance of the system. The comparison of the specification in the
organization it utmost necessary since the correct implementation depends on this particular
factor. However, identifying the risks, assessing and controlling it are also required to
implement OHS correctly. The inadequacy and the intervention check are also required in
this regard.
