Journal Entry 1
After doing proper research the job suitable for me after completing BSc in Oil and Gas
Management is to become a drilling engineer. A drilling engineer is one that plans, develop,
costs as well as supervise the functional operations that are necessary for drilling the oil and gas
wells (Jones, Lieberknecht and Qiu, 2016). The drilling engineer is also involved in the well
designed for completion, testing, and abandonment (Thompson, 2017). For this job, the
company that should be chosen will be based Oil and Gas Company, and therefore the company
selected by me is the Total S.A. of France. This company is a multinational oil and gas company
of France and consider to be one of the seven “supermajor” oil and gas firm in the world
(Ramazani and Jergeas, 2015). The main reason for choosing this company is that the business
covers all the entire gas and oil chain including natural gas exploration and crude oil to power
generation, petroleum, and refining (Shuen, Feiler and Teece, 2014). Therefore the presence of
all sector will thereby help me to be a drilling engineer in this chosen firm.
According to the author Halvorsen and Sarangi, (2015), to become a drilling engineer a student
has to earn some degree and thereby possess great skill in physics, chemistry, geology and math
and also a strong IT skill. Therefore, the professional qualification of becoming a drilling
engineer is to pass class 12 in science stream and then completed their Bachelor’s Degree in
engineering or management including Petroleum, mechanical, Civil or minerals engineering,
Chemical engineering, Oil and gas management and Petroleum Engineering (Raufflet, Cruz and
Bres, 2014). Among all these qualifications if the students can pass in a single qualification, then
they are eligible for drilling engineer (Ablo, 2015). Therefore after completing the BSc in Oil
and Gas management, drilling engineer is the excellent job that can gain help to achieve my
goals.
Both the CV and LinkedIn profile demonstrate my essential and desirable skills as in the CV I
have explained my educational qualifications, certificates and also my strengths of doing this
particular drilling engineer job. The CV explained that I had completed my BSc in Oil and Gas
management and I have done training in International Well control Forum, Well productivity and
Well design forum too. All these essential skills are regarded as my strengths that describe my
desirable and essential skills for choosing this job. In addition, all these skills are also described
in my LinkedIn profile where I have also demonstrated my experience as a former trainee in the

Elf Aquitaine as a drilling engineer in the previous year. Hence it is quite evident that both my
CV and LinkedIn profile easily demonstrate the desirable and essential skills that should be
needed for the drilling engineer job.
Journal entry 2
After reviewing various articles, I came to know that the STAR method is a technique by which
a student can easily select for the respective job. The STAR method stands for Situation, Task,
Action, and Result and applying this technique help to provide a concise and clear response by
using real-life examples (Sharma, 2015). After studying the interview procedure, I have gained
that to become a drilling engineer in this repudiated firm of France I have to apply this STAR
method at the time of interview. During the interview process, all questions should be related to
the drilling procedure therefore for answering these questions I will use this method and give
examples from my past job experiences as a drilling engineer. For example, if the interview
conductor asked me about some difficulties that I have faced during my previous work, then I
will just give them the answer with certain examples. I will answer them the procedure by which
I have managed the situation such as I have helped the workers and provide them with a solution
by which they can easily overcome the challenges. Hence I can say that by using this technique I
can easily apply the STAR method and thereby can get the job in this selected Oil and Gas
Company of France.
