INTRODUCTION
Human resource management is one of the primary activity in business organisations
through which employees at various level are employed and managed to operate their operations.
Human resource management is a continuous practice through which practice of HRM services
are managed in legal and ethical manner. This project report is based in Old-bridge District
Council which is managed by a small HR team. This team possess a manager Lisa Porter a
manager, two officers and an administrator. In order to manage employees who are working for
the Old-bridge council a survey is performed through which employees opinion on different
perspective to their jobs are recorded (Babister, McKeown and Retallick, 2016). Project report is
based on five findings and their importance in the leading and managing people at work.
Improvement initiatives of these findings will be introduced and justifications in order to
enhance improvements will be made.
MAIN BODY
1. Which 5 of the key findings from the survey should Lisa be most concerned about?
Justification of answer with explanation regarding importance of these findings in leading
and managing people at work.
Business organisation whether profit making or a non-profit making in order to become
successful and generate a team of competent employees needs to take opinion of employees time
to time. In this process surveys are conducted so that all the employees can provide their opinion
on different issues related to their work and working atmosphere. Generation of the correct
information is important and necessary for organisations so when corrective actions are taken
then most productive results are generated form them. In Old-bridge District Council a survey is
conducted through which opinion of all the individuals are taken into consideration regarding so
that some amount of improvements can be made through positive initiations. In this survey
several findings are recorded which shows how employees of the organisation feels about
organisation and working in the organisation (Emerick, 2016). Key findings that are most
concerned by manager Lisa Porter are as follows-
Variety of Work: Providing variety of work to employees in an organisation serves an
opportunity to them to grow and develop their skills in different areas and become more and
more competent. Each organisation is of the opinion that employees working with them must be

able to multi-tasking so that different benefits can be generated form them. Similarities of
opinion of business managers and employees may or may not be same in this perspective. As
only 43% of the employees in Old-bridge council are satisfied with variety of work. This reflects
that in the present time most of the individuals are not happy for granting variety of work to
them. Finding this is important because when employees are not satisfied with the work they
perform then eventually level of their work performance will decline. Finding this on time will
help managers and HR team to take all the required actions on time for motivating employees to
perform well. Together with this importance of performing multi-task for their personal and
professional growth will be discussed.
Pay and Benefits: It is said that there is no other effective motivation then financial
benefits. Payment to employees for their work and providing them several other benefits acts as a
tool to motivate and keep motivated their workforce. Satisfaction through pay and benefits are
important because when a employees is not satisfied with payments then always find an excuse
for not performing well or as per set standards (Jeleński, 2018). Paying as per industry norms and
providing monetary and non-monetary benefits to employees keep them motivated and attached
to business organisations. This is an important finding form survey because it reflects that only
21% of the individuals are satisfied with they payments and benefits provided. Management
needs to understand psychology of individuals and after that all the efforts to generate a scheme
through which monetary satisfaction can be provided to employees are provided.
Work-life Balance: Employees working in Old-bridge District Council possess a work
life and a personal life. In order to perform well to generate productive results an employee
needs to make balance in their personal and professional life. In today's time it is seen that life is
moving fast and in order to keep balance employees needs to become more and more efficient to
manage their personal and professional life. This is one of the important finding for Lisa Porter
because a non-balanced life of employees make them frustrated and in moving forward with this
situation make an individual less productive. Level of concentration of employees towards gets
manipulated and their quality of work is hampered. As 55% employees of Old-bridge council are
happy with their work life balance and now, management needs to make all the efforts so that
another 45% individuals can also achieve this balance in their life.
Change Management: It is a process through which business organisation while
performing activities in the competitive environment develop their operations in such manner so

that they become adoptive to changes. Change is constant and in order to keep up the
performance and compete in more effective manner a business organisation needs to become
adaptive to change and managing all the changes in the most effective manner. After research
this finding is considered important because only 15% of the employees in the Old-bridge says
that change is managed by council in the effective and productive manner. Now, management
needs to consider what changes are not adopted by management and how employees are reacting
to these changes (Luxen, 2018). Opinion of workforce is important in order to manage change as
they are the one who will implement these changes in business organisations.
Discretionary power: It is termed as the amount of power or rights provided to
employees in the organisation to act according to their own judgement. It is termed as the
freedom of judgement or choice. In each business organisation allocation of power and
responsibilities is performed. In order to become successful a balance needs to be made among
allocation of some powers or holding some of the powers to higher authorities. In Old-bridge
Council only 37% of the employees are satisfied with the amount of dissociation they are
allowed while performing their job. A plan must be designed by management team to allocate
powers and all the activities must be performed as per plan. Despite of this when employees are
not satisfied with the discretionary power then proper communication needs to be done among
management and employees. This will help managers to understand employees point of view and
visa versa. Situation of dispute will be resolved and employees will perform their activities in
more satisfied manner.
All these findings are important and manager of Old-bridge needs to consider these
findings serious and take all the possible actions to resolve these issues. Management team of
Human Resource Management of the organisation will make productive plans and implement
these plans in such manner so that business can get more and more amount of satisfied
employees, in long run it will generate benefits for business organisation to sustain efficient and
competent employees and a team of highly qualified workforce is generated. Employees will
improve level of their performance and quality of their work in long run will be improved on
continuous basis. Management while considering all these findings must consider some other
findings also as some of them are also important to address. A proper guidance will be provided
to employees so that they become adoptive to the changing business environment and take all the
actions which are required to deal with situations that can become most crucial for business.

Good amount of pay, benefits, discretionary power, change management, work life balance and
variety of work leads to generation of business environment which improves quality of work and
high amount of diversity to take business challenges (Miura, 2016).
2. Choose THREE initiatives as in question 1, which Lisa should develop immediately to
improve the more concerning findings. Critically evaluate these suggested initiatives.
Survey conducted by Old-bridge council managers on their employees are available with
various findings that reflects point of view of employees on different issues. In question 1 five
findings are addressed which are considered to be the most important to be addressed on priority
basis. On the basis of these findings three initiatives needs to be developed immediately to
improve the more concerning findings. Some of the initiatives that Lisa Porter as manager of
Old-bridge council will take in respect of these findings are as follows-
Training and Guidance: As findings that are addressed in question one says that variety
of work and work life balance is one of the primary concern among employees that needs to be
taken into consideration. Solution to both the issues or findings is quite is simple is practice and
training. Training is something which helps an individual to prepare and become ready for
future. Training is not important for all the employees so management needs to make critical and
effective analysis to finds the employees that requires training to make required development in
them. After finding employees those who required training and the type of training that needs to
be provided to them is identified. As some of them require on the job training or some can be
provided with off the job training based on their personal competence. For training purpose
group discussions, secessions for knowledge and videos are shown to employees. Through this
initiative employees in the Old-bridge organisation will become efficient to perform various
activities at same time (Schmidt, 2019). Together with this their level of performance will
improve and balance among their personal and professional life can be maintained in the most
productive manner.
Work Analysis: This is second initiative that manager Lisa Porter needs to take while
managing various activities in Old-bridge organisation. Through this process employees in the
organisations will be monitored on the basis of their performance and the basis will be the set
standards that are equal for all. Analysis of performance is important as employees are of the
opinion that pay and benefits that are provided to them are not satisfactory. Management can not
comment on this claim without identifying the work performed and quality maintained by each
4

employee in their work performance. So effective analysis of employees performance will be
made to identify which employee is performing well and who needs improvement. When
performance is analysed then employees can be provided with improved pay and benefits on the
basis of their performance (Southern, 2017). Quality of work performed by employees helps to
develop a plan on the basis of which increment is made to their pay as monetary appreciation. On
the other hand allocation of discretionary power to some specified employees is also affected
through level of performance and quality of work initiated.
Preparation to adopt changes: Business environment is changing and it keeps on
changing on continuous basis. Lisa Porter manager of Old-bridge council needs to take all the
required initiative so that all the efforts are made to adopt changes as required. Adaptation of
changes like usage of more and more technology in the business organisation helps to simplifies
all the process. Together with this level of efficiency is improved and business organisation
become more and more competent to compete in the market to generate more productive results.
All the initiatives are important as they will help manager to make effective analysis to
findings and to develop appropriate plans so that required changes can be made (Špadina, 2019).
All the actions will be performed or taken on time so that management can be done in
appropriate manner and results are generated in the most profitable and desirable manner.
3. How should Lisa approach the task of drawing up the proposed, ‘You Said, We Listened’, e-
mail including her main objectives? Justify your answers and include a draft of the email
that Lisa should send.

Subject: Revert for the findings of survey on employees.
“You Said, We Listen” that all the employees working in the organisation are available with
some issues related to their job, working environment, opportunities, pay scale, job securities
and many more. In the survey conducted all the points that are important are recorded and this
feedback system is quite effective for management. All the issues that employees possess will
be considered and actions that management finds suitable and most profitable will be taken and
selected. Employees are appreciated for their honest opinion and in future they are requested to

all the practices for management in such manner so that level of performance of employees can
be improved. Management will be available with all the relevant findings in the organisation to

business organisation. Proper training to employees which is required and analysis of work
performance at each level will help to finds loop holes available in business organisation. For

the work. Then assessment will made on when and how the work is performed (Türkyılmaz,
