Introduction
Health & Social Care refers to the practices of various sorts which are used to
ensure that the different types of user groups are able to develop their health in
the right manner without facing problems and issues. Thus in this way it can be
said that it is quite important from the point of view of different user groups that
they can put focus on Health & Social Care. In this presentation, there will be
detailed focus on older people as they are the ones who need maximum attention
regarding it. There will be analysis of current issues affecting older people, the
policies in place for protecting them, theories linked with the situation of older
people. Additionally, specific analysis on legislation which can influence older
people will be discussed as a part of this project.

Current key issues affecting older people
Older people have various health-related problems. Thus they face various types
of issues regarding health. The issues which are faced by them in relation with
health & social care are explained as follows-
Heart Diseases- Older people face a risk of facing a lot of heart diseases.
They face this risk because this can create a long-term impact on them.
Respiratory Diseases- Older people face a lot of problems and issues in
relation with respiratory diseases.
Ageing Issues- Older people face a lot of ageing issues which can create an
impact on their overall health because this can affect their overall situation.

Stroke- Older people face a higher-level of risk regarding getting a stroke which
can lead towards Paralysis.
Lack of good care- Older people face issues regarding lack of good care. Thus
in this way it can be said that this can affect them a lot because in the absence of
good care they can be impacted.
Lack of good support system- Older people face this particular issue because
there is lack of presence of good support system which thus creates an overall
impact on them.

Policies in place to protect older people
There are different types of policies
which have been placed in different
countries for the purpose of protecting
the older people. Thus In U.K., the
different types of policies have been
framed for ensuring the protection of
rights of older people. Thus some of
these policies are explained as follows-
Penalties for harming or abusing
older people- Stricter penalties have
been imposed for harming or
abusing the older people.
Opening up of old-age homes- Old-
age homes have been opened across
U.K. With good facilities to make
sure that the older people do not
face problems and issues while
staying there.

There are different types of theories which are linked with the situation of old
people. Some of these theories are explained as follows-
Health Belief Model-
It is a model which can can be used in order to ensure that the explanation and
prediction of health-related behaviours can be done in the right manner.

Social Cognitive Theory-
This theory is quite useful in order to ensure that the influence of individual
experiences, actions of others and environmental factors can create an influence
on individual health behaviours.

Legislation creating an impact on the user
group
Care Act, 2014 is an important law which is quite influential in ensuring that the
better care of elderly people can be taken. This law ensures that the better care of
the old-age people can be taken effectively and efficiently. Some of the major
provisions of this law are explained as follows-More duty can be provided to the
local councils for the purpose of ensuring that the promotion of well-being of the
old people can be ensured in a proper manner.
Human Rights Act 1998 can ensure that better actions regarding Human
Rights of a person can be taken in a proper manner.
The councils can enable independent financial advice which can ensure that
the old people can be given better advice relating to their financial matters
which can enable them to be able to achieve their particular financial goals
and objectives.

There can be use of various appeal systems which can allow the old-age users to
be able to make sure that they are able to appeal against any neglect or the lack
of care issues which they have been facing particularly.
Further under this act a guidance has been provided on the vulnerable adults
which can ensure that the adults and old-age people who feel vulnerable and
neglected can be ensured that their better care can be taken.

Conclusion
From the above presentation, it can be concluded that Health & Social Care is a
topic which includes a wide range of different elements which are required to be
looked upon to make sure that the overall enhancement of the overall efficiency
and effectiveness in providing these services. There are different types of issues
which can affect the old people, there are policies in place to guide them, the use
of theories can be made for assessing the situation of old people. Additionally,
detailed discussion on the legislation which can influence old people will be
made specifically as a part of this particular project.
