Global event can be defined as an
event which held on an
international platform in which the
entire globe can participate. A
global event involves all over the
world and an effective way of
sharing values, culture and artistic
experience and communicating
with entire world. This presentation
will cover overall impact of
Olympics on international
environment.

POSITIVE & NEGATIVE IMPACT OF
EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
Political Factors: There are various political
elements that have impact over the decision
making process such as governmental policies,
rules, laws and regulation.
Positive Impact: The governmental policies of
London, UK are stable that was suitable condition
for Olympics
Negative Impacts: The taxation regulations of UK
government are very strict and high which had
increased cost of organizing Olympics in London.

Economical Factors: Employment rate, industry
structure, availability of financial resources, etc.
are the economical elements which affect the
business decision-making.
Positive Impact: Sufficient availability of financial
resources made it easy for the organizers to lead
the event successfully
Negative Impact: Less availability of skilled blue-
coller labour made it difficult to make the
arrangements related to physical labour.

Social Factors: Behaviour, culture, attitude, values,
etc. of the population are considered as social
factors which have deep impact on decisions of
event organizations (Sammut‐Bonnici and Galea,
2015).
Positive Impact: Local and international media have
provided huge coverage and bounce to this events
which made it successful.
Negative Impact: The popularity of the Olympics also
render a threat of terrorist attack for which the
organization had to work on its security
arrangements.

elements related to the uses and changes in
technology to increase the productivity and
profitability of organization.
Positive Impact: The utilization of latest technology
in lighting, decoration and stage performance
enhanced the success of the event.
Negative Impact: Implementation of latest
technology in entertainment increased the cost of
the event which reduced the profit margin.

forecast, etc. also have impact over the execution
of any organizational strategy.
Positive Impact: Availability of natural resources was
sufficient for the organizers at the time of Olympics
in London.
Negative Impact: Due to the changing nature of the
weather in London, organizers had to make extra
efforts in planning for sudden weather change.

RECOMMENDATIONS
 The organizing authority is
suggested to prepare budget plan
related to financial resources before
starting any project.
 Effective promotion policies and
strategies are also significant for
success of any global event.
 To maintain environmental and
social balance, it is necessary to
make strong strategies regarding
waste disposal system.

SWOT ANALYSIS
SWOT analysis is an effective tool for
assessing the micro and macro
environmental factors that effect the
decision making and strategy
planning of an event company
(Jucevičius, Patašienė and Patašium,
2014). Strengths and weaknesses will
analyze the internal elements and
opportunities and threats will analyze
the external components of ExCel
Exhibition Center regarding Olympics.

Strengths
 Political Support and commitment of opposition
political party for regeneration was helpful.
 Involvement of a broad range of internal and
external stakeholders was supportive.
 The brownfield site of exhibition center was
supportive with potential regeneration and
redevelopment.
 Regeneration and strategic planning of legacy
was involved in advance.

Weaknesses
 Planned strategies and corporal governance for
regeneration were not properly evolved.
 Utilization of legacy for some venues post-
games was uncertain.
 Organizers had no long term planning for
evaluation of regeneration.
 No holistic evaluation of performance of the
arrangements.
