INTRODUCTION
Online learning has gained a high level of popularity among students who are pursuing
higher education or are in schools. It can be defined as a type of education which takes place
over the internet and is also referred to as e-learning. With the high education students becoming
more diverse, various educational institutions have come up with innovative ways so as to
accommodate them. The report includes a comparison between two journal articles that are based
on the concept of online learning. One of the articles are based on online learning in schools of
business, whereas the other article is based on quality issues in distance learning.
ANALYSIS
Online learning is a type of learning that takes place over the internet and has become a
popular method among students in the recent years. There are two articles that have been chosen
for comparison for this report. One of the topics is “Online learning in schools of business: The
impact of quality assurance measures”, whereas the other one is “Quality Issues in Distance
Learning”. Both the articles have various similarities as well as differences, for instance both of
them are based on the common theme of Online Learning. As per the first article, distance
learning is one of the means through which higher education can become more responsive and
relevant to the new demands (Online learning in schools of business: The impact of quality
assurance measures, 2020). On the other hand, the second article states that distance learning is a
learning system wherein teaching methods are different from behaviors of learning. The learner
is the one who works all by himself/herself or in a group which is guided by the instructor in a
location besides the students.
The first article states that although distance learning offers flexibility, scalability and
access, there are still various concerns over quality that still continue to be an issue. on the other
hand, the second article states that distance learning requires significant resources of finance for
technology support as well as support. It is important for the faculty members as well as
administrators to receive assistance in order to manage the logistics of distance learning. In order
to discuss the quality various perspectives of the students should be taken into account. The
structure of the first article comprises of various headings as well as sub-headings. This is a
similarity because the other article also has a structure that is easy to understand. This helps the

readers in understanding the ideas as well as concepts that are mentioned in the same. Both the
articles have discussed their ideas in detail in order to ensure that there is no confusion among
the readers when they read them. The second article stresses on the importance of composition as
well as qualifications as vital components in order to ensure that the distance-learning programs
are of high-quality.
Apart from this, there are also certai8n differences between the two articles like, although
the main idea of both of them is same, the in-depth specific topic is different for each of them.
For instance, the first article talks about the impact of quality assurance measures on online
learning. Whereas the second article is based on the quality issues that are associated with
distance learning. Also, in the first article Harvard style of referencing has been used, whereas in
the second article, there are no references used by the researcher. All the points that are discussed
in the second article, are summarized briefly along with the conclusion. The article concludes
that quality distance learning requires utmost careful attention to the design of learning, effective
training of the faculty as well as commitment of the organization along with selection of
appropriate technology (Quality Issues IN DISTANCE LEARNING, 2007). On the other hand, the
first article concludes that the enrollment of students in online programs and courses is impacted
by two variables, certification as well as academic integrity.
Also, in the second article, after every topic, there are recommendations provided that can
be adopted in order to enhance the quality of the content. The recommendations are also made
for the improvement of distance learning methods. The recommendations are not a part of the
first article. Due to this, it can become difficult for the readers to maintain their concentration
about the same. The first article aimed to answer two research questions which were does quality
assurance standards increase confidence in online courses and if they have an impact on the
student enrollments. On the other hand, the second article did not aim to answer any research
question and included a discussion that was centered on the topic “Quality Issues in Distance
Learning”. Thus, this is one of the major differences between both the articles. The ideas were
discussed clearly in a well-structured manner.
The references that are mentioned at the end in the first article, are cited in between the
text, so that it is easy to refer the source for the readers. Apart from this, one of the other major
differences in the structure of the two articles is that while the second article includes a table of

contents, the first does not. Thus, it is easier for the readers to refer to the different topics in the
second article than it is for them in the first one. Therefore, it can be said that both these articles
have various similarities as well as differences. It can be seen that the structure of an article plays
a major role when it comes to facilitating the information to the readers in an effective way.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it can be concluded that both the articles that are compared have
both similarities as well as differences. The main theme of both the articles is Online Learning
and there are also certain other topics which are discussed in order to ensure that the research
questions are answered in an appropriate way. The conclusions of both the articles are written in
a very precise manner, allowing the readers to understand the main idea that has been discussed.
