Project Title: Online Shopping System
Background
E-commerce is a process of selling & buying services, products & information over the
internet. It is a dynamic process which includes a set of technological, business and
application processes that create links among the customers, suppliers and organisations
through the e-transactions & e-exchange. An online shopping system is a form of e-
commerce where the buyer is connected to the seller directly with the help of the internet.
Earlier there used to be an intermediator but in the online process, there is no need for any
intermediary services. The purchase and sale transaction is executed electronically in the real-
time environment.
Figure 1: E-commerce
Basically, the whole idea of the online shopping system originated from the e-commerce
process. With the presence of an e-commerce system, not only the customers have a number
of options but businesses also have increased sales due to the online market.
Sometimes people have a problem going out for shopping. The use of the internet and users
are increasing day-by-day. People are using the internet for various things like
communication & collaboration.

Objectives
This project’s main objective is to provide people with a system which controls all the selling
and buying of the items through an online system. It will save a lot of time for the users as
there will be no need for them to go to the shop, all they can do is just access the shop online.
It’s a 24/7 service where transactions will be taken care all the time by the system. Data
storage is really easy and the overall system is user-friendly and very simple to use.
This whole project can be completed in a period of 3 months. The timeline for the same is
listed below.
Start Date – 01/04/2019 End Date – 31/06/2019
Timeline
There will be a requirement gathering and project planning phase were all the articles
and journals will be ready for analysis. This process will take around 1 week to get
completed.
Then, the online shopping system UML modelling will be done which will take
around 2 weeks.
The database will be designed for the backend data and tables which will take 2
weeks.
Frond-end will get designed with all the required functionalities which will take
around 2 weeks.
Developing the whole database and business logic will take around 2 weeks.
Test case development will take 1 week
The testing phase will be taking a time of 2 weeks approx.
Fixation of the bugs and final deployment will take 1 week.

Stakeholders
A stakeholder is a party that has an interest in a particular project and can either affect or be
affected by the business.
Project Benefits
There are various project benefits which the users can avail. Some of the benefits are
provided below.
Users will be provided with information on various products in several different
categories.
No need to go to a shop to buy products, just log in to the web application of the
online shopping portal and the users will be able to shop whenever and wherever they
want.
Users will be able to purchase products and services online.
Users will be able to pay online
Users will get a high level of security as well.
Users will get services after the product is purchased and delivered. A customer care
team would be there to help them with any queries.
User data will be secured and maintained in the database. Only the authorized people
would be able to access the data.
Project Team
There are various stakeholders in this project who will contribute to or affect the overall
business related to the project. Some of them are listed below.
Project Manager – Responsible for managing the team and the project

Risk Identification
There are some risks & threats related to e-commerce or the online shopping system. Some
risks are particularly applicable to e-commerce businesses, such as:
Hacking – Due to the large database of the users, there is a chance that hackers might
get into the database and fetch the data of the users. They might also crash the servers
so that users are not able to access the system to buy products.
Credit card scams – As there is an option of payment, customers will be entering their
card details to pay for the product. There might be cases where credit cards are faked
and then the product is delivered but no actual payment is done. So, in the end, the
system will have to bear the losses
Hardware failures – Server hardware might get crashed and users not able to order
products.
Unreliable shipping services – The shipping system might have some problem which
includes delay in shipping, wrong shipment of the product or damaged product.
Software errors – There might be some bugs in the software
Changing laws – Laws related to e-commerce might change anytime and this might
cause a problem for the whole system
Cost Estimation
There are various costs included in this project and some of the costs are listed below which

Expected Outcomes
This project will help users in achieving maximum efficiency in the shopping domain as they
will not be going to a shop instead of order it online at peace. It is a 24/7 online system. All
the information is stored in the database which is secure and only the authorized personnel
would be able to access the database to alter or add anything to it. The expected outcome for
this project is basically reduced data entry time & provide calculated reports very fast and
easily.
