Introduction-
The presentation is about operant conditioning learning theory its limitations and applications. It
is important that effective understandings of such learning theories are gathered. This helps in
the effective implementation of these theories in teaching practice. The theory that is being
considered is the operant conditioning learning theory. In this theory the learner changes
behavior in response to certain stimulus that is provided by the teacher. The aspects related to the
theory have been essentially evaluated

Stimulus is the primary element. Then comes the response and then comnes either reinforcement
or punishment based on the displayed behavior.

Critical review of limitations
This slide is focused towards reviewing the limitations. Firstly, the theory cannot be used where
greater cognitive abilities are required for deeper understanding. Hence, it cannot be used
always. Secondly, in line with the same complex concepts cannot be taught effectively through
this method. This is best suited in more simple cases as in what one would do at a given real time

situation. Thirdly, the ability of the learner is just limited to either the right or the wrong
behavior to the stimulus. However, that is not always the case as there can be situations where
there might be more than one right or wrong decisions. In those cases the theory becomes
problematic.

As mentioned previously one cannot nurture more than a few behavior among the learners.
Hence, this theory becomes limited in scope concerning learner development. Groups can face
issues in this type of learning as the abilities of all the people in the group are not same. For large
group of learners this theory becomes very difficult to implement

understand that pulling the lever is a desirable behavior and would provide him with reward. He
follows the same behavior in similar future situations.

There are many contributions of this theory. It has been effective in the training of animals. The
development of behavioral instincts means that a person knows how to act in certain situations.
That is on knows what can be rewarding and what can be punishing. The situational efficiency of
people are improved. They become more knowledgeable of consequences of wrong decisions.
The theory contributed to the further research in the area. Comparative understanding with

theories such as classical conditioning promoted greater analysis and evaluation of the other
learning theories.

These can be tackled through the usage of operant conditioning.
