Q.1 : Critically evaluated different approaches and techniques that are involved in improvement
in operation management.
There are different types of approaches and techniques that can be used in order to make
improvement in operation management. It can be stated that TQM, six sigma and lean has
changes the way a quality can be seemed and improved. BPR is a more radical approach in order
to achieve dramatic improvement in cost, quality, services and speeds. Further, operation and
process improvement help business to increase its effectiveness through understanding business
activities and process (Dale, 2015). There are various forces which lead to encourage companies
to make improvement in their processes such as an increase in competition, changes in needs and
wants of customers etc. It is critically evaluated that performance improvement is one of the
ultimate goals for operation and process management. Another, goals of the company is
perfection and removal of waste. The expectation of customers changes with the time and
company need to modify products as per demand in order to gain competitive advantage. The
continuous improvement concept is known as the belief that defect can be prevented and
mistakes can be avoided. While working in an automobile industry total quality management
approach is one of the best approaches in respect to enhance or improve a quality (Boer, Berger
and Gertsen, 2017). It is a business approach that can improve the efficiency and competitiveness
of the firm which benefits all the stakeholder. It is common that quality value of a product gets
reduced at the time when a company unable to meet the requirement of customers. There are
some important factors that is included in TQM such as training, customer focus, methodology,
decision making, employment involvement etc.
The reason behind selecting TQM is that, company first target needs of the customers
then focus in fulfilling it. It is because customers are considered as the king of the market and
products and services are customer driven. Therefore, the first goal of the company is to find out
needs and wants of customers and then fulfil it on time. Automobile company is facing
competition from other competitor and customers are searching quality product at lower price.
Thus, companies need to make those products and services which are cost effective and
economical (Senge, 2014). The reason behind selecting this design is that it focuses on
organisation efforts and methods for increasing quality and productivity. Continuous process is
based on making refinements on the basis of feedback. Furthermore, TQM is continuous in
nature and it should taken into consideration according to the needs and wants of customers,
