Introduction
Operation management is a process in which the manager and leader play a important
role to transform the material and labor into goods and services (Albergaria and Jabbour, 2020).
It helps to achieve the target market and objectives. It is the administration of business
organization that creates best level of efficiency in organization. This report covers the important
approaches of management and operation that helps to cope up with all situations and external
factors to the manager and leaders so that they achieve their organization goals and objectives
effectively and efficiently. It also identifies the external factors which influence leaders and
managers roles in operation management with special reference to Sainsbury's. Sainsbury's is the
UK form that it is a super market which provides food items, clothing, etc.

There are many key approaches in operation management which are very helpful for
makes a successful business. Some of them are mentioned below:
Total quality management:
TQM is the most important and effective process in which activities is are arranged on
the way that ensures sustainability that satisfies the organization. Sainsbury's as the multinational
and large organization in which it is very essential for our organization that they maintain their
quality and performance so that they manage all activities very well.
Leaders play a crucial road in total quality management approach as they develop the
processes with improvement in workforce performance. It can be measured buy leaders at
each stage of functioning that promotes working activities in Sainsbury's.
Manager as a person who focuses on the improvement of production process that helps to
increase the productivity of workforce (Chibisov, Chibisova and Kazantseva, 2017).

Just in time inventory:
It is the process where organizations try to decrease their waste so that it will cause the
cost of production. Sainsbury's leaders and managers please a crucial role in just in time
approach:
Managers always look forward to order goods at right date and time from the supplier.
Leaders are the person who always focuses on productivity of workforce that ensures that
goods and services are produced very effectively and efficiently manner so that they
achieve optimum utilization of resources.
Continuous improvement or Kaizen:
Sainsbury's cannot expand our business for long time until they try to improvement in
business continuously. It is the approach where leaders and managers try to focus on
improvement of business so that they achieve all targets and goals.
Managers have needed to identify the scope in the organization that they are improving
their production services or functions of Sainsbury's.
Leaders assist the team members for specific task that confirm the effective completion
of their work (Doering, Suresh and Krumwiede, 2019).
There are many more approaches that are important for the organization operation
management such as Queuing theory, lean production and six sigma. All approaches are
important for the successful business operations in Sainsbury.

It is very well known by Sainsbury that day need proper operation management which
ensures there achievement of organizational goals and objectives. It can be better understood
with the importance of operation management that is mentioned below:
Controlling and distribution system
It is most important factor that ensures the accountability of operation management in the
organization. It ensures that Sainsbury provide appropriate distribution system so so they achieve
their goal very effectively.

Converting raw materials into finished goods
Operation management ensures that there is an effective transformation of materials into
finished products without any waste. It reduces the cost of production through to removing
excess waste in the production process. Sainsbury can be applied this approach to ensure that
their finished products are in quality or not.
Capacity management
Operation management helps to manufacturing companies such as Sainsbury to identify
the capability of workforce (Erfani and et. al., 2018). It searches the ability of doing better in
their workforce to develop something new or modify their old process in the production process
that produces their waste.

It is the most important factor that every organization need for functioning smoothly in
the market. Operation management helps to organizations such as Sainsbury that their logistic
and inventory are manageable properly.
It can be evaluated from the above explanation that operation management in some very
important role in achieving the goals and objectives of organization. There are many points
which give the reason to apply application management in business property. It helps to achieve
the targets and goals of the organization effectively and efficiently.

When the organizations’ leaders and managers take decisions related to to operation
management then they should consider important factors which influence the decision making
process. Those factors are discussed in below points:
It is very well known by the companies who run their business and the society for
example Sainsbury which serves finished products and services to the customers. It

shows that they use resources of society because of this reason they have to do something
for society welfare. So the leaders and managers policy when did take decisions related to
operation management.
One important factor i.e. culture should be considered in the decision making process by
leader and managers. Because all decisions can directly affect the culture of the
organization and which workers perform their duties and responsibilities to fulfill the
organizational objectives (Thomé, Scavarda and Scavarda, 2016).
Sainsbury have certain values and ethics in their organization that follows by leaders,
managers and employees. They are very important because they give directions and
boundaries and which organization doing their work. So it is very necessary to consider
in the decision-making process.
There have certain important factor s that should be included in the process of decision
making by leaders and managers of Sainsbury.
Conclusion
It is concluded from the discussion that operation management function plays an important role
in the success of business organization. So to implement effectively in the business, it is very
necessary to apply some approaches for their effectiveness. It can be done through TQM, lean
production, etc. But before taking any decisions regarding operation management function
leaders and managers should consider some important factors that influence the decision making
process such as CSR policy, values and ethics, etc.
