INTRODUCTION
Technology plays a very crucial role in management of operations of a company. It not
only helps the company to increase the productivity but also to improve its work function. The
organisation of the context for our report is JS supermarket. This firm works in the retail sector.
The report will focus on better adoption of MIS system that will help the company to improve its
productivity and profitability (Cassidy, 2016). Various IT systems that will help the company to
meet the requirements and its effect on the management of the customer relationship and
communication with suppliers and purchasing department of the company along with the
appropriate improvement measures. Also, the contribution of IT system on value added changes
and increasing the efficiency of the operations and performance of the company and profitability.
Besides this, the practical IT system solutions will be recommended.

Effect of MIS on operational efficiency and increase in profitability.
In the present scenario at JS supermarket, the system of the management of operations
using computers and network is not in a synchronised and appropriate manner. The company
faces many issues due to mismanagement of the system at the work place. There is no, as such,
interlink or inter connection between the various systems that are been installed at the various
departments of the company, which causes the disorientation between the various departments of
the company and may cause a miscommunication with the suppliers of the company (Drucker,
2017). This can not only reduce the cost efficiency of the firm but also affects the overall
productivity and profitability of the company. In order to tackle such situations, the company can
use the approach of MIS system. The Management Information System (MIS) is the system or
the service that will help the business to manage its operations in an effective and efficient
manner. This MIS system helps the company to effectively manage its operations and
functionality in order to gain better coordination between the various departments of the
company and get better profitability. At JS supermarket, the MIS system will help the company
to manage its operation between Accounting as well as Purchasing and Store department. At
present, the system available at work stations of the purchasing department are not in any
connection with that of the Accounting department which causes a communication gap between
suppliers and the system of the company (Dwivedi and et.al., 2015).

The MIS system will help to build a better interconnection between the various
departments of the company and helps it to gain better productivity. Other than this, the effective
implementation of the MIS system will also help the cited firm to build better relation with its
suppliers by managing and interlinking the operations of all the three purchasing centres of the
company to provide the supplier with the efficient transfer of the updated information of goods
and services provided with payments (Galegher, Kraut and Egido, 2014). This will sort out the
communication problem that business firm is facing due to the absence of an effective system.
Besides this, the effective implementation of the MIS will help the company to improve the
overall functionality and efficiency of EPOS system that is been in the use by the company. This
will not only help the company to maintain all its bank accounts using a common system and
calculating the wages that are been calculated by the cited firm for the better running of the
system and reduces the expanses (Galliers and Leidner, 2014). This will help the business firm to
identify the efficient business firm and help the company to meet the requirement of its
customers and generate a better revenue which will act as a competitive advantage for the
company.

For gaining high productivity and profitability, JS can use different types of IT systems
that will help the company to gain a better productivity. Various types of MIS systems are
available in market whose services will help individual to gain better idea about its operations
and meet the requirement criteria. This will help the company to manage its operations in a better
way and meet the requirement criteria of the company (Kroenke and Boyle, 2016). The system
that is been taken into the consideration by the company should be organised in order to have a
better management of the operations, interactive to support better communication process within
the various departments of the company and should be based on the objectives of the company.
The MIS system will help the company to meet the requirement criteria. Moreover, it will help
the company to generate better output of its services. The two different types of IT systems that
can be used at JS supermarket to fulfil its requirement are:
 Management Information System: This will help the organisation to take effective
measures that will help to meet the requirement of customers. The MIS will help JS to

collect all its related data and process it in an effective and efficient manner in order to
get a better output from the operations of the company and make appropriate decisions
based on the analysis. This will help the company to improve its work efficiency and
meet the satisfaction criteria of the customers (Laudon and Laudon, 2015). The
assessment of the issues that are been faced by the company and their effective solution
suggested by the will help the company to opt for the improvement measures and meet
the needs and demands of the customers.
 Information System: An effective use of the information system will help the company
to analyse, record, evaluate and use the generated data in order to have better
understanding of the operations of the company. In case of JS, the information system
will help the company to gain better control of the operations in the company. This will
help to manage the better information of its bank accounts, purchasing of goods and use
the systems that are been available of the company and handling the data in a better way.
The gathered data will help the company to generate a better information of the
operations that are been carried out by the company and make an effective plan and take
suitable measures in the real time (Liebowitz and Frank, 2016).

The discussed system will play a very important role in the management of the operations
of the company. The MIS system that is been taken into the consideration by the JS will help the
company to manage its operations and meet the requirements of the customer's. The collection of
the data or the information that is been generated by the systems of the company and based on
that the management of the company will develop suitable plan for meeting the customers needs
in the most effective manner, that will help the JS to gain a better productivity and profitability.
The rise in the operational capacity of the company will help the cited firm to have better idea of
the various operations or the functions that are been carried out by the company. This will help

department about the raw material that is been kept in the stock and based on the information
received, the further process of the providing the order and receiving the raw material will be
carried out by the company. Besides this, it will help the company to fill the communication gap
and manage the operations in a better way.
Likewise, the Information system will also help in the development of the better
communication process between the suppliers and the business organisation. The information
that will be gathered, will help the company to gain a better productivity and helps the JS to
improve the quality of the services that is been provided by the company. Apart from this, the
Information system will conduct the analysis of the data that is been gathered by the system

Management Information System(MIS) which not only helps the company to gain a better
productivity, but also helps the company to meet the requirements of its customers and the
suppliers. The MIS will have the following impacts on the operations of the cited firm:

 The addition to the value of the services and the products that are been manufactured and
delivered by the company will help the company to promote and develop its products and
services in more efficient and effective manner (Peppard and Ward, 2016).
 The value addition process will be deeply managed on the operations of the company
that will help the cited firm to take appropriate measures that will help the cited firm to
take into consideration the better productivity and profitability measures that will help the
company to make suitable changes. This changes will help the company to meet the
requirement criteria of the customers as well as the suppliers of the company.

Neil Johnson, the elder son of the senior partner, who is working part-time in the
organisation will look after the efficient running of the various departments of the company. He
has observed various technical as well as the operational glitches that have affected the overall
operations of the company (Ross, 2016). Thus, he will look through the various measures to
carry out the operations of the company in a very effective and efficient manner such as:
 The three separate systems that are been connected in the production or the purchasing
department who are using the services of the same supplier will be interconnected using
the EPOS or the MIS system in order to facilitate the better communication process
between the company and the supplier. This will help him to develop a better

coordination and help in the sorting out the queries that are been asked by the supplier
(Vaishnavi and Kuechler, 2015).
 This will also help the company to manage the resources in a better and efficient manner.
The process will help to keep a check on the resources that are been used and use them
appropriately.
 Interlinking the different bank accounts of the company to a single account that will help
the company to meet the requirements of the company in a very effective manner. This
will help the company to manage its transaction, purchases and payments to customers
and the suppliers (Schwalbe, K., 2016). Besides this, it helps the company to reduces the
stock cost and keep a check on the account balances of the company.

organisation. The report focused on the better adoption of the MIS system that will help the
