closely dependent on each other i.e. travel and
tourism. It deals with moving of people from one
place to other for any purpose like, for vacation trip,
for business purpose, etc. It is considered as
backbone of hospitality industry as all other, like
food and accommodation, lodging, entertainment or
fun activities, etc. are mostly depends on this
business (Bharwani and Mathews, 2016). So the
main focus of hospitality industry is to increase tour
and tourism as when people travel from place to
place they need to spend money on different
hospitality services in form of money for
transportation, food, shelter, etc. Different modes of
transportation are there for offering best experience
in travelling like trains, cruise ships, airlines, etc.
Hospitality industry is emerging as one of most
profitable industry in the different parts of world. This
includes a variety of business aim at providing
facilities and services to customers. The main
activities included in hospitality industry are related
with providing accommodation, food and beverage,
transportation, entertainment, event planning, gaming
and all other products and services mainly related to
tourists and travellers (Bharwani and Jauhari, 2017.).
The main business included in hospitality industry are
as follows:
Food and accommodation: This mainly includes
hotels and restaurants offering services related to food
and beverages, accommodation and shelter also
includes housekeeping and other related services. It is
considered as the largest segment or area of hospitality
industry. It ideals with activates related with preparing
meals, snacks, beverages and providing a safe,
comfortable accommodation. Overall it aims at
enhancing or increasing customers experience by
providing best food and excellent customers services.

many economies of different countries. The main

satisfy the customers (Jung and Yoon, 2016).
Functional departments
There are different tasks that ever organisation has to
perform, similar task is grouped as one and named as
different functional departments like sales and
marketing, accounting, HRM, etc.
Accounting and Finance: This department is related
with monitoring and controlling different financial
activities. It includes a number an activities ranging
from recording of day to day transaction to preparing
financial statements including different budgets and
cash flow. The main aim is to keep a check on income
and expenses and to maintain a desired profit level.
Human Resource Management: This department is
responsible for maintaining proper amount and quality
of staff or workforce of an organisation. It includes
hiring and firing process, training and development,
and maintaining the healthy work environment inside a
hospitality business. This department is collectively
responsible for welfare, growth and development of
staff and employees necessary for a hospitality industry
as it plays a very important role in providing customer
satisfaction (Kang and et. al., 2016).
Housekeeping: It is the department responsible for
maintaining the cleanliness of gusts room and all
public area of hotel premises. The main activities
included in housekeeping are cleaning and up
keeping of rooms, laundering, placing of various
amenities in rooms, maintenance of gardens,
swimming pool and all other activities related with
taking care of hotel premises.
Front office: It is considered as most visible
department and mainly includes the reception desk
where customers gets the first impression about the
hotels.
Entertainment and event management:
Entertainment services includes all those activities
that attract and holds the attention and interest of
audience and aim at providing pleasure, joy and
satisfaction to customers. Event management
includes planning and creation of events such as
formal parties, festivals, seminars and ceremonies,
business conferences, public concerts, etc. To
provide entertainment and leisure to its customers
in form of different services offered at venues or
location of events (Chen and et. al., 2017).
