INTRODUCTION
Operational management majorly focus on those practices which design to monitor and
control all the activities in the production and distribution of goods & services. In the
organization, manager have to focus on product development and provide effective services
(Bloom and et.al., 2012). Effective use of operational management helps in increasing efficiency
as well as effectiveness of the operational functions in order to gain competitive advantage.
Along with this, it further helps in achieving business goals & objectives. For the better
understanding of this concept, this report choose Unilever which is British Dutch transnational
consumer goods company. This organization established in 1929 by William Lever and its
headquarter in Unilever house, London ,UK.
This report include various topics such as role and responsibility of operational manager
in healthcare practices and evaluate different leadership skills to complete their operational task.
Different leadership theory and implemented in the workplace along with management style in
different context. In addition, use leadership theories to contribute towards development and
team management in healthcare practices. Along with this, produce a plan for further
implementation of changes and explain potential impact of plan on different services which
provided by the organization.

Role and responsibility of an operational manager in healthcare practices
Operational manager of Unilever company have to perform various role & responsibility
in order to achieve their business goals & objectives (Doherty, Horne and Wootton, 2014). Some
of it discussed below because it helps in increasing their efficiency as well as effectiveness.
Role of operation manager:
Operational manager have to review organizational performance on the regular basis.
Need to maintain production level as per demanded.
Manage team members and motivate them to achieve high efficiency as well as
effectiveness.
Through developing effective strategy which further helps in achieving business goals &
objectives.
Responsibility of operation manager:

They have to develop policy and plans in order to develop and take strategic decisions.

An operational manager required various skills which helps in achieving their efficiency
as well as effectiveness. Manager of Unilever company required some skills which helps the
organization to achieve business goals & objectives. Some of the required skills mentioned
below:
Communication skills: It is the most important skills of the organization because
manager have to communicate with their staff members in order to provide clear
guidelines and instruction (Routledge and et.al., 2012). So regular flow of
communication in the organization help the manager to complete their task in
effective manner.
Motivational skills: Manager required to have motivational skills because it is
important to encourage their employee so they efficiency perform in order to achieve
business goals & objectives.
Negotiation skills: It is also one of the best skills which required by the operational
manager because it helps in negotiating with suppliers (Hong and et.al., 2012).
Awareness regarding customer needs: Operation manager have to be updated with
market trends and customer needs. Manager have to conduct market research and then
analyse their customer expectation as well as desire which further helps in strategic
decision making process.

where they haver to perform task in effective manner and enable the organization to achieve their

M- Meaning: Goal of the company should be meaningful and business operations work
together to achieve in effective way.
A- Achievable: Goal & objective of the company should be achievable, it not that
organization become billionaire in 1 year like that.
R- Relevant: In the fourth step of SMARTER goal is that organizational goals is relevant
to the life and linked with core value. For example increase profit margin which is relevant to our
life because business done for the purpose of profit making not for charity.

T- Time bound: It is also ensure that every task and goals have time bound it is not like
that goals of company will be achieved as per their wish. Every goals have certain time limit to
complete.
E- Evaluate: In this step, manager have to use various methods to evaluate their goals
and long term goals not necessary to evaluate on regular basis.
R- Readjust: In the last step, manager have to adjust their goals if they find that existing
one is not performing well (Liebler and McConnell, 2016).
By using SMARTER target, manager of Unilever company set their goals and timely
evaluate its effectiveness.

Different theories of leadership in term of implementation to work roles
There are various theories which adopted by the manager in their organization to increase
operational efficiency as well as effectiveness and it further helps the business to achieve
organizational goals & objectives. Some of it discussed below:
Autocratic leadership style: In this leadership style leader of the company have power
and authority to take decisions without any suggestion from their subordinates and other
staff members. In this leadership style leader will take all the important decision without
suggesting with their staff members. Manager of Unilever can adopt this leadership style
because it helps in completing task on deadlines without any delay.
Democratic leadership style: This leadership style is most effective style where business
leader will take suggestions from their followers. If any suggestion was good then it will
be implemented in effective manner. In this leadership style, employer and employee
relation was good and they feel free to share their thought and opinion.
Manager of Unilever company follow the democratic leadership style which helps the
organization to achieve their business goals & objectives. This leadership style develop defective
relation between manager or employees. It increase the participation of individual in order to
enhance give their valuable suggestion.

Conflict resolution: By using various management practices as well as leadership style
helps the organization to resolve their conflicts in the workplace. Manager use democratic
leadership style where people can share their views and thoughts. So manger of the company try
to reduce mistake in the organization which prevent conflict among the employees. Along with
this, manager have to conduct meditation program to calm every individual. Increase
communication through employee engagement which reduce the conflicts and other kind of
disputes.
Team building: For the effective result organization have to improve their team
efficiency which helps in achieving group task in well manner. Because efficient team will
increase will be more productive and helps in maximising profit margin. In context of Unilever,
manager develop various practices in order to make their team efficient to achieve their business
goals & objectives (McDaniel and et.al., 2014). By using autocratic leadership style,
organization able to develop effective team which helps in providing market growth which
automatically increase the productivity as well as profitability.

There are various strategy which is used by manger in order to resolve workplace conflict
which affect internal functions of the organization. So manager of the company use various
strategy in order to reduce conflict in the organization in effective manner. There are some ways
to resolve conflict in the work place:
Try to resolve every issue on the time when it occur, don't avoid it otherwise it will
become bigger as time passes.
