Every organisation is working towards creating an effective and efficient management
and operations system in order to carry out smooth functioning of the operations in an
organisation (Barnes, 2018).

Operations management basically involves keeping an insight on the operational functions of the
organisation. It is essential for an organisation to have a prominent operations management
system in order to manage the operations of the company very smoothly and efficiently. It
focuses on enhancing the degree of productivity and relevancy in the company.
Operations Management involves various approaches, few of them are listed below:-
Total Quality Management:- Total quality Management involves identifying and
analysis the degree of quality of the products and services produced and developed by the
company. Quality plays a vital role in convincing the consumers to purchase the products or
services of the company. Good quality will attract more consumers whereas poor quality will
turn off the consumers to buy the products of the company. Tesco is very committed to
providing quality goods to its consumers. The company really puts in efforts to deliver products
that are quality approved.
Lean Production:- It is a way of producing goods and services in which the waste
material is extracted from the ongoing production cycle in order to enhance and improve the
quality of the products and services in the company. This method is also appreciated by many
industry individuals as it promotes reduction of wastage in the company and also helps in
providing premium products to the consumers of the company. Tesco has also adopted this
approach in order to reduce the wastage and save the time of operations in the company (Leiras,
2019).
In order to implement the operational functions in the organisation and to lead these
above mentioned approaches and other techniques, Leaders and managers are very important to
an organisation. They provide their guidance and help to the employees to effectively complete

uncertainties and risks. There are various forces in the business environment that may negatively
or positively affect the business operations of the company. These forces are also divided into
two parts i.e. Internal & External. Internal forces can make impact within the organisation
whereas external forces prevail in external environment and can impact the organisation
internally as well externally (Gillen, Jacquillat and Odoni, 2016). Hence it is very essential foe
the managers and leaders of the company to be ready to respond to such forces so that they can
smoothly commence their daily operations and functions in the organisation. Sometimes the
managers and leaders of the company can also utilise these forces in their favour and this
opportunity only lies in the hands of operations team. This also helps them enhance their
decision making skills. Operations Management team can act as an opportunist and capitalise on
the forces that can be used in company's favour. Few factors and forces of business environment
