This literature review examines the opportunities and challenges faced by international students in Sydney, Australia, a significant destination for higher education. It highlights challenges such as learning and socio-cultural adjustments, educational expectations, individual problems and safety concerns, accommodation and financial hardships, and public transport issues. International students often experience acculturation difficulties, language barriers, and feelings of social isolation and homesickness. Safety concerns, particularly for Chinese students, and exploitation in the housing market are also discussed. Financial difficulties are exacerbated by limited eligibility for travel concessions. Despite these challenges, opportunities exist for social integration through university programs and community involvement. The review emphasizes the impact of social connections on academic success and underscores the need for support services to address the unique needs of international students. Desklib offers additional resources and support for students navigating these challenges.
