In any organisation, a good communication process is key to successful management in the
company because of the proper circulation of information between the staff of the company.
Communication can be considered as the most important factor of any organisation because, by
the help of this, the company interacts with the customers, other clients, and companies. In the
following essay, the main focus will be on the oral communication skill which is the part of
verbal communication. The essay will discuss the communication and its importance, oral
communication, types of oral communication, the importance of oral communication at the
workplace and the business school. It will also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of oral
communication and the misalignments that may cause the variation in the result received from
the research. The thesis of this essay is to determine whether oral communication is prioritised in
the workplace and the business school or not. Now the main structure of the essay will start and
firstly, the communication is defined in the next section.

two or more persons. There are many modes of communication which are used in an
organisation like verbal and non-verbal communication. The verbal communication is defined as
the process of sharing information by the use of words and the nonverbal communication is
sharing of information without words by using the only expression, gesture, and posture
(Sutiyatno, 2018). Oral communication is an important method of communication in the
organisation because it allows the sharing of information by speaking and delivering the
information to the audience by interacting with them. It is also one of the most effective methods
of communication as it includes the vocals or an aural way for communicating (Gomes & Yasin,
2016). Communication is considered the most important part because it helps in creating
coordination between the people who are working in the organisation. Also, communication
helps in making decisions for the company and implementing them with the help of the team
along with eliminating the fake information which is flowing in the organisation. Oral
communication is basically of three types, they are a presentation, conversation and listening to
anyone who is speaking. Oral communication may be one way or two way. The one-way
communication takes place in case of a presentation where a speaker delivers the message to the
audience for addressing them something. In this case, the person who is delivering a presentation
is the only speaker and the others are the audience. Listening is also a part of one way
communication in which the listeners or audience listen to the speaker very carefully. The other

on presentational oral communication. It is also found that the students who are attending the
communication classes behave more professionally by dressing proper and decently when they
are going for any oral presentation. Communication is considered important for the business
schools because if the business students have good communication skills, there are more chances
to get more respect in the organisation and it also generates more chances of getting a job in the
market. By oral communication, the students of business schools found to be more active
listeners as compare to others. For better knowledge about the importance of oral communication
in the business school, the learning goals decided by the Association of Advanced Collegiate
School of Business for the students who are undergraduate was preferred. The focus was on
learning goals because they are the one which gives the detail about the mission of the school
and the priorities of the school for the development of professionalism in students. The
hierarchy of the business school about the communication and their preferences resulted that
many of the business schools are not even concerned about oral communication, they are giving
more priority to the written communication. The business schools which are giving importance
to oral communication are giving more priority to presentation then listening and conversing.
The least preference in oral communication is given to listening even if this is the most important
and necessary for the business students. Out of the 207, AACSB verified business schools in the

communication is given to presentational oral communication which was about 76% of the
business schools which prefer oral communication in their learning goals and the least

conversational oral communication was 22% of the business schools (Brink & Costigan, 2015).

communication. The personal barriers in oral communication are generated because of the lack
of confidence and the refusal of the person to communicate with others. The lack of motivation
also comes under the personal barriers in oral communication (Dan, 2015). When the
organisation doesn’t allow its employees and management to put their views and share their
information with others then it comes under the organisational barriers. The policies of the
organisation, the status, and image of the organisation in the market, the structure of
organisational and related factors are the part of organisational barriers (Gray & Murray, 2011).
There are some other barriers like the unavailability of clear information which is not understood
by the presenter. Oral communication is advantageous in various ways like it is less expensive as
compared to the other communication methods and also it saves the time of the organisation. It
allows better understanding to the employees of the organisation and the level of transparency is
also high than the other communication methods. Oral communication helps in generating
motivation and energy between the team members of the organisation (Ann Vrchota, 2015). The
one who is using oral communication can change his perception which means it allows flexibility
to the user. The employees can know better about the morals and principles of the organisation in

communication cannot be used as a proof in the organisation which means the management or

communication is the willingness of the business to get certified from the AACSB which creates
a fake data that will affect the result of the research. These business schools just create a fake
image and fake data to mislead the AACSB board. A fake environment in the schools is created
to satisfy the norms and conditions of the AACSB. This research also showed that if the sellers
or the agent don't have good communication skills like oral communication then they are not
able to share their information with the customers and the clients because of which the
organisation may face the loss of customers and clients. There is a need for special training for
the employees and the workforce to present themselves in front of everyone in the market. If a
salesman is not able to clarify the specification about any product or services then it is a
drawback for his career and the business (DeIuliis, 2016).
