A project manager has numerous responsibilities that are associated with the core
functioning of the project. For the Ecological Wastewater Solutions Pty Ltd (EWS) to expand
into new geographical locations, it is crucial to develop appropriate teams with prominent
team members. It is the duty of the project manager to manage these various teams and to
effectively fulfill this responsibility a project manager also have to utilize various different
types of powers. These powers, help in managing varied situations. Thus, in the organization
EWS, the different powers that can be utilized are –
Legitimate Power & Persuasive Power
As the project manager, an individual has the power to instruct people about
the different tasks that they have to perform. In the case of EWS, the project manager
should convey all the members settled in different countries with appropriate
instruction, to ensure that there is no confusion. Also, the instruction should be
conveyed in a manner that the employees follow them to the core. Thus, the project
manager should also utilize persuasive power. At the same time, the project manager
should also ensure that he provides the employee with appropriate freedom as the
legitimate power can transform an individual into a dictator (Ravi, 2017).

As the organization is expanding into different new regions, it is bound to
happen that certain management crisis will emerge. Thus, the project manager should
utilize the situation power for handling varied situations (Shenoy, 2018).
Both these powers will help in the success of the project. Also, it will help in
influencing the organizational working. Also, there is a difference between being influence
and manipulative because influence is persuading and manipulating is persuading for one’s
own benefits.
