ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
Introduction
The following report talks about the learning and reflection that has been gained by me,
the marketing manager of a sports company during my stint in the organization. The reflection
report will highlight the key learning and the improvement that the newly gained knowledge has
brought in me in my professional life.
Overview of the Company and my role
We had formulated a team named Innovative Group in the year 2010. The simulation
scenario needed us to take the responsibility of the management in the year 2011. The main aim
was to improve the operations of the organization, increase in the financial profits and also to
increase the customer base of the organization. My company is the producer of different kinds of
sp[orts products specializing in skis, wheel power bicycles and some similar products. The
company has the aim to change their current status and be one of the leading and largest retailer
of sports goods in the market. I was the marketing manager of the company and had control over
all the marketing elements and aspects of the organization.
Primary Reflection of the Organization
The business simulation began in midst of the boot camp Week and kept running all
through the Organizational Context Course with bunches going up against each other. The
gathering that we were into comprised of five different individuals including me, the marketing
manager of the company. It was one of the main problems to change the gathering of the five
into a successful group which drew in and propelled accomplices in light of the facts that the
compelling group needs the ideal individuals with the required abilities in the correct part. It was

a real challenge for me to transform the total group into a hardworking and motivated bunch of
individuals ready to face any sort of challenge. The presence of people with particular skills is a
boon for the company and therefore the members of the company need to utilize the full potential
of all the members of the organization. I understood that some of the specific tasks must be
allocated to the members of the organization. The idea of the specific tasks came from the fact
when we were assigned a number of such similar tasks according to the respective professional
skills and background. The main tasks that were allocated to me were as follows;
Innovation, development and implementation of the company strategy
Forecasting of the different kinds of financial results
Data mining, financial analysis and marketing of the company strategies and planning
of the different marketing strategies
My decisions and different kinds of reactions and judgments to a situation has a key impact
on the overall performance of the business. The tasks that were allocated to me provided me a
sense of responsibility and created an inner pressure in me that ultimately helped me to bring the
best out of the organization. The analysis of the monthly results was also crucial to the
development of me as an able and capable manager.
Secondary Reflection of the Organization
The following part of the assignment deals with the learning experience during the
simulation. The following section concerns two main areas namely teamwork, leadership and
financial management. The use of Tuckman Model has helped me to gather varied knowledge on
each and every aspects.

Tuckman’s Model

Tuckman’s Model shows the progress of both me and my team through different kinds of
tasks to achieve the different kind of objectives. The storming stage saw a huge round of conflict
that tried to unsettle our goals but we finally stood strong and progressed to the next round. I
took a note of two of the members of the team to be having little knowledge of business. This
made the forming stage much longer as arrangement had to be done for a long time. The absence
of any strong leader in our team created lots of disputes. This could have reflected in our
performance which would mean our performance would be never up to the mark. I realized that
this was the perfect time to demonstrate my leadership skills and stand aside from the rest. The
time when our team reached the performing stage I used the democratic leadership style to
establish the best model in the business. I left each and every of the decisions to be taken up by
the members of the team.
