INTRODUCTION
Organisation Behaviour consider as a most prominent factor which help to
understand the each and every individual behaviour inside the organisation. Through effective
practices of organisational behaviour, company can determine the behaviour of employees,
group of employees that are performing their job in an organisation. It helps to reflect the
behaviour of every individual who are working in organisational environment that give the direct
affect on the job, performance level, communication, motivation level and many more factors.
This report consider the organisation behaviour of Debenhams company that is famous
multinational retailer company which founded in the year 1778 by William Debenhams and the
headquarter of this company established in London, UK. The main motive of this report is to
analysing the impact of organisational culture , politics & power on the individual and team and
also use various motivational theories to achieve the organisational goals. This report determine
some specific philosophies related to the organisational behaviour.
TASK 1
P1 Impact of Organisational Culture, politics & power on individual & team behaviour &
performance
For every organisation, it is necessary to determine and also evaluate the influence of
culture, politics and power on behaviour and performance of each and every individual and
team. There are various factors which are influenced the behaviour and performance of the
Debenhams company individuals and team (Alleyne, 2016). These factors give positive and
negative impact on the development of the company which are explained below-
Impact of Culture on Individual & Team
This factor mainly affects the value and belief of the organisational culture.
Organisational culture is make by the specific consideration of every individual and team
member. Debenhams culture determined by the topology of Handy's model that basically divided
into different part which explained below- Power Culture It contain the centralised monitor and control in the company
operations. Debenhams is a large company in which high authority employees have
power to monitor the employees and also improve the overall performance (Arnold,
Fletcher and Daniels, 2017).

Role Culture – It consider the specific roles and responsibilities of the managers whob
have power to give various roles to the individual and team as per their capabilities and
skills. Debenhams use this role which is help to influence the power of culture. Person Culture – It give chance to all those individual and team who are able to show
their capabilities and Debenhams inspires their employees that demonstrate the
innovative ideas.
Task Culture – It gives impact on those individual and team members who give their best
efforts so that task can be obtained in a specific manner of the Debenhams.
Impact of Politics on Individual & Team
Politics behaviour give the authority of those individual who are able to take right
decision at the correct time. High authority members of the company are responsible to take
decision on the behalf of of the employees. Debenhams managers and board of directors are
consider various decisions which help in the betterment of the company and also useful in
balance the politics aspect inside the company (De Vito, et. al., 2018). The description of few
politics factors which influence the behaviour and performance of individual and team are given
below-
Changes in Employees Attitude - Politics can be influence and change the perception of
employees and it occurs inequality inside the company. All individual and team members
may lose their interest toward task and work and also they can demotivate with that.
Decline the Productivity Level – It has been demonstrated that politics gives the
negative affect in the company and might be remove the targets of the company that
Debenhams want to accomplish in a specific time.
Impact of Power on Individual & Team
Power demonstrates the authority that has been mainly provided by the organisation to
the specific employees. Power has been utilised by the high authority people like managers that
directly influenced other employees to perform their job role in a best manner. Power contains
various authority such as give appraisal and specific rewards on the basis of performance of
employees. There are various types of power that are utilised by the Debenhams so that
company can direct influence their individuals and teams. The explanation of these types and
theories of power are as follows -

Coercive Power - This power is provided to the individual so that they can manage their
day to day tasks and activities (Griffin, et. al., 2020).Company assign this power to the
high authority like CEO and managers so that they can improve the efficiency and
performance level of each and every individuals and team of Debenhams. Legitimate Power – This power is provided on the basis of designation and experience.
Company mainly provide this power to the Chief executive Officer who makes whole
control on the company activities and also make sure that every individual and team
maintain all rules and regulation of the Debenhams company. Expert Power – This power is given to those who have proper knowledge about any
particular field and area. Debenhams provide this power to the managers who can able to
balance of the organisational activities (Jain and D'lima, 2017).
Reward Power – This power given to those individuals who are able to provide the
rewards, promotions, appraisal and development to the employees. Debenhams assigned
this power to the BOD ( Board of Duirectors) so that they can provide specific rewards to
the employees according to their good performance.

Debenhams utilise this theory to boost up and motivate their employees which can help to
enhance the capabilities of employees that provide the effective outcome in the context of the
company. The explanation of few content theories of motivation are given below-
Maslow's Theory of Motivation
This theory consider the motivation factor which is essential for each and every
individual. This theory believes to motivate individual because it is necessary to fulfil the basic
need of the individual. In this theory, five levels are considered which depicts in the pyramid
form and determine the basic need step by step that help to generate the motivation level in
behaviour of employees in an organisation (Khaola and Coldwell, 2017).

Physiological needs - This is consider as a biological need which help in human survival
such as food, water, cloths, shelter etc. This need is very essential for the human , without

affection. Self- esteem needs – This need consider the self respect, prestige, accomplishment and
feelings that all the individual can contain the value and respect for others.

Self-actualisation needs - This needs are consider as a highest level in the hirrarchy
theory that refer to acceptation and also realization of the individual potential and their

which are involved in this theory. The name of two factors are hygiene factor and motivation
factor. The description of these two factor are given below-

organisation. It is necessary to motivate each and every employees so that all the

dissatisfaction (Motaung and Radebe, 2018). Psychological needs are essential to fulfil
and all the employees can except that organisation think about their needs and wants.

security etc. Motivation Factor This factor mainly lead to motivate all employees in the
organisation so that they can perform more better as compared to their past performances.
This factor gives positive impact on the efficiency of the employee's so that they can feel
more inner strength and self confidence. This factor involved achievements, rewards,
developments, bonus, responsibilities, promotion and identification etc. all the employees
are feel motivated and they can also motivate other employees in an organisation.
Debenhams use this two factor theory so that company can concentrate on both factors
like hygiene and motivation. Through these factors all the need of the employees can fulfil and
employees can feel more satisfied and their performance level also improved (Olsen, 2018).

employees. This theory include all steps of the motivation. Company can focus on basic need of

Effective Team
This team determine those group of employees who are work together to obtain the
specific objective, target. Effective team are very much concerned about their work and
responsibilities and all the team members are work collectively to achieve the organisational
goal. The efficiency and productivity of effective team member are very high and they are more
focused and very confident about their work. Debenhams company mainly concerned about this
team because all the employees of this team contain strong belief system , positive attitude
toward their work , faith , high satisfaction and efficiency level. All the members are able to
work together to improve the whole performance of the company.
Features of Effective Team
There are many features of the effective team which are given below-

Set Goal – Effective team have set the clear goal and all the members of the team are
perform their job in an effective manner so that they can participate in the success of the
company. Risk Taker – Effective team members are always ready to take high level of risk and also
work hard to find out the appropriate solution. The employees of the Debenhams are
capable to face uncertainty and also help to solve any issues (Rezaei, et. al., 2016). Communication – Effective and proper communication play a essential role in the
success of every team member. Proper Communication among employees help to achive
the task in a most specific manner.
Believe & Trust – All the members of effective team can trust each other and they have
believe themselves so that they can work together without any discrimination and help to
accomplish the objective of Debenhams.
Ineffective Team
In this team, those employees are considered who are not mix well with other team
members and they do nor have the appropriate skills and knowledge to perform their task even
they are not comfortable to work with other team mates. Ineffective team member are not clear
about their goal and their understand about their job and team employees very low.
Features of Ineffective Team
There are various features of ineffective team which provide negative impact on the
performance of company. The description of these features are as follows - Low believe & Trust – Ineffective team members are not trust each other and their belief
toward their themselves are very low. Less trust and believes create big misunderstanding
and confusion among team members (Roberts, Sojo and Grant, 2020). Lack of communication - Through lack of communication, all the members can not get
proper and relevant information which create massive issues in their job and all the team
members can face many complex situations. Unclear Goal - If the goals of the team members are unclear then employee's can not
even capable to perform their job in a right manner and not able to improve their
efficiency. Ineffective team members are not interesting in their job role so they have lack
of knowledge about the task.

performance of the team. From nine role, Debenhams consider few role that company want in
their team members are as follows- Monitor - This role is really essential for each and every team members. Every team
member need to know how to monitor their task and each and every activities of the
team. Effective monitoring help to maintain the performance of the team members.
Debenhams want those employees as their team members who are better know the

motivation level of employees so that they can become more accomplish organisational goals
and objective in a most specific manner. This theory direct the company to apply most
appropriate leadership style as per the working condition of the organisation. The prime purpose
to use this theory is create motivation among employees so that their working behaviour toward
their work increase.
Debenhams adopt this theory because it help in recognition of all the traits and working
pattern of the employees which are helpful to improvement of employees performance. The
usage of this theory can help in effective decision making which useful in the betterment of the
employees as well as company. This theory provide proper direction to the company managers
through useful suggestions and feedbacks of employees (Steiger, 2017).
