INTRODUCTION
Power is that term which is basically the most important aspect of human civilization
(Kitchin, 2017). This power might be physical, social or else political. In the following report,
sources, types and uses of power has been explained. Further, its influence on individual and
team has also been discussed in detail.
MAIN BODY
Power
Power is the term which is defined as a position where employees in an organisation
obeys the person with particular power.
Influence
Influence is defined as a term where particular person, whole group or an organisation
changes their values, behaviour or attitudes and also activities of others (Powell and Tilt, 2017).
Authority
Authority is termed as Group of those people have legal power in order to make any kind
of decisions or to direct people to obey the laws in a particular area.
Sources of power
Position- This is where a particular individual has been given power or influence
according the position they are holding or role they are playing in that organisation.
Legal or rational- This is the limitation or direction as per the name of particular
organisation. This power is basically based as per seting rules or procedures in terms of job or
role of any department or sector.
Types of Power
Legitimate- It is also known as positional power and is derived from a person having
particular position in an organisation. And duration is limited until particular person have
position.
Expert- In this, the power of knowledge is expertises by person in order to influence other
individuals. This is specific and skills can be enhanced accordingly with time.
Coercive- in this, there is huge involvement of threatening someone with transfer, firing
or demotions in the position of individual.

Referent- this power is basically based on degree of attractiveness which means wielded
by celebrities and also film stars as they haven fans who follows them. They exert high level of
influence on their followers in terms of large number of decisions.
Reward- in this individual are rewarded with monetary benefits or much better
opportunities to influence them to maximise their efforts.
Use of power
Power is basically responsible in order to ensure about the commitment of employee and
also their compliance in particular firm (Raven, 2017). It further helps in order to avoid
resistance that later leads in achieving high productivity and long term profitability. Thus, power
is therefore an ability that makes individual to work accordingly. In addition to this, it is
important where tasks are being assigned by managers to employees.
Power influence individual and team in the organisation
Influence is that power that has an significant impact on someone or something (Xie and
Ma, 2018). If manager influences their individual or team, then they are trying to change a
person indirectly which is extremely important to increase productivity and long term success.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it has been analysed that power plays very significant role in
every organisation in order to influence individual so that they move in particular direction. It is
giving forth from particular position that can influence people either positively or negatively.
