INTRODUCTION
Organisational behaviour (OB) is the study of human behaviour in organisational
settings, the interface between human behaviours and the organisation and the organisation itself.
Researchers mainly study the behaviour of human resource at work. Basically, it's the study of
both group and individual's performance and events within an organisation. The study of
organisation is required to monitor employee's behaviour at the organisation and to determine it's
affect on performance, motivation, training, etc.
Motivation is an underlying drive of individuals to complete tasks and goals of an
organisation. There are many factors that can influence employee motivation including
organisational structure, integrity of company's operations and organisational culture. Motivation
is an energy that excites employees to do work with their full efficiency which results in
maximum contribution. The organisation used in this report is HSBC Bank Malta. HSBC Bank
is the Maltese branch of the British multinational banking and financial services company. The
bank is headquartered in Valletta and has more than 30 branches within.

Using the knowledge gained in class and through other research, clearly highlight the relevance
of organisational behaviour in today’s environment while describing motivation and motivation
factors in organisations
Study of the organisational behaviour is very much important in an organisation. This
helps the employer to analyse the behaviour of the human resource in the organisation. This
helps in determining the techniques for the satisfaction of the employees which will improve the
quality of work and the performance of the organisation. relevance of organisational behaviour in
today's business environment. In simple terms, Organisational behaviour is the analysis of
human behaviour in an organisation which acts as an interface between human behaviour and the
organisation. According to Fred Luthans, “Organizational behaviour is directly concerned with
the understanding, prediction, and control of human behaviour in organizations.”
Motivation is one of the techniques which will ensure excited and satisfied employees
which will help them work with confidence and concentration that ensures proper and quality
work. Some motivation techniques are used that are the internal or external influences that
contribute to betterment of the organisation, contentment at work and employee involvement in

projects(Borkowski, N. and Meese, K.A., 2020). There are some factors that are important in the
motivation process:
1. Reward and Recognition: Recognition in the company is complimentary with reward. If
an employee's performance is good, he should be rewarded. This ensures popularity and
recognition in the entire organisation. Employees starts to lose motivation if they are not
rewarded for their efforts. Demotivated employees cannot function properly and might
get frustrated with their work and will lose their confidence which might result in poor
performance of the employees and diminishing position in the market.
2. Development: Development is the most important factor for the motivation of the
employees. Development is the main motive for about 80% of the employees in the
organisation. Development refers to the proper amount of training that should be given to
the employees which will ensure motivation in the organisation.
3. Leadership: A good leader is very much necessary in an organisation to keep the
employees charged up and motivated. It's his/her responsibility and duty to make the
employees feel respected which promotes motivation in the organisation. A leader is a
person who guides, allots work and gives a direction to the employees to work.
4. Work Life Balance: A Motivated employee is always excited to work which helps in non
stoppage of work which means less number of leaves taken by the employee. The
motivated employee will be ready to work overtime if he would be asked to do so.
5. Work Environment: Motivated employees creates a positive work environment. This
adverts to the physical and non-physical environment in the organisation. Physical
environment refers to the office, equipments and the surrounding areas. Employees feel
and work better in open areas. For example, Google is known for it's extraordinary office
spaces that focus on employee welfare.

Motivated Workforce:
Motivated employees are excited and interested in completing day to day tasks in the
business. Motivated workforce completes the work before the deadline with high quality as they
are interested to perform and participate. Motivating is something that should be done on a
regular basis without being biased because that could create demotivation among the other
employees. A motivated workforce functions effectively in such a way that the daily tasks can be

completed on time or before the deadline. Recruiters usually hires the ones who are already
motivated to work in the business environment and are willing to work in tough business
situations(Cooper, S.C.L and et. al., 2017).
Importance of Motivation in an organisation:
Motivation plays an important role in an organisation whether profit or non profit
organisation. Some importance of Motivation in an organisation:
1. Increases productivity: Motivation is a technique used to excite employees to work
which will increase the performance of the organisation and will ensure a strong
workforce.
2. To Change employee attitudes: Motivation helps the employer change the attitude of
his employees. As some employees in the organisation have a negative attitude towards
their work and colleagues.
3. Ensures Loyal Workforce: Motivation is very important in creating a loyal workforce.
Motivating the team of employees by using different techniques will ensure high
productivity, morale and commitment towards the organisation.
4. Ensures a Reactive Workforce: Business environment is highly uncertain & Dynamic
and switching the work according to the changes, an organisation needs to adopt different
strategies for which there is a need of loyal human resource and commitment towards the
work. This can only be possible if the employees are satisfied with their jobs which can
only happen by the process of Motivation in the organisation(Gagné, M., Deci, E.L. and
Ryan, R.M., 2018).
5. Facilitates Direction: Direction is simple terms is referred the path to be followed by the
employees to work such that goals and objectives can be achieved. Direction is basically
a process that involves guiding and directing the employees to work in a certain way.
Motivation is something that creates the desire to work in the employees and helps in
attaining the goals and objectives of the organisation(Gagné, M., Deci, E.L. and Ryan,
R.M., 2018).
6. Helps in reducing absenteeism: The rate of absenteeism is very high in some
organisations. There are several causes for this absenteeism bad management, pathetic
relations with the colleagues or the superiors or maybe poor working conditions.

7. Reduction in employee turnover: Employee turnover affects the image of the
organisation in the market. Lot of most valuable resources are wasted like time and
money in recruiting employees and giving them the proper training.
8. Ongoing Employee Development: Motivation is a way so that an employee can attain
personal and organisational goals. This will ensure employee's self development and
better productivity in such a way that the organisational objectives can be accomplished.
9. Improved Efficiency: Motivation will increase employee's efficiency level. To complete
the task and get the excellent results an employee needs to maintain a balance between
the ability to perform and inclination to perform.
Types of Motivational Practices:
There are some techniques used for motivating employees:
1. Ask for employee participation: Regularly monitor the employees for their satisfaction. If
the employer knows what kind of benefits an employee wants he can provide him that
which will excite the employees to work with complete efforts and energy that can be the
reason to better performance in the organisation.
2. Be Positive: A negative environment in an organisation can be demotivating for the
employees and toxic for the organisation. It can reduce the productivity of the
organisation. Positivity can help the employees work in an effective and efficient manner.
Positive environment improves the mood of the employees and allow them to work in the
way they are comfortable in. This motivates the employees to work harder and smartly.
3. Job Security: Job Security is very much necessary in today's uncertain life. Giving the
employees the benefit of job security can help in motivating employees and will
definitely increase their quality of work. Job Security simply means giving them the
guarantee that their job is secured and he/she will not be replaced by someone else. This
motivates employees in the organisation to work with 100% efficiency which increases
the productivity and ensure success of the organisation(Gelfand, M.J and et. al., 2017).
4. Flexibility: Employees prefer a flexible environment that means flexible scheduling and
valuing your personal work by giving half days and leaves in case of emergencies. Life is
full of uncertainties and there is no scheduled time for emergencies so a flexible schedule
motivates employees as they know they won't scolded for coming late or leaving early
due to some personal work and emergencies(Kanfer, R. and Chen, G., 2016).

5. Incentives: Paying good amount of salary is definitely the most important thing for the
employees but if there are some other than the salaries this might excite the employees to
work harder towards the goals and objectives because they know that they will be paid
for working harder and overtime in terms of incentives.
6. Encourage Collaboration: Working in teams is a type of motivation for the employees at
work. Setting up team building exercises will allow an employee to meet other employees
and will develop Esprit de corpse among the employees which will develop the
employees and will definitely affect their work and organisation functioning.
7. Offer Rewards: Rewards are something that will motivate the employees to work and
attend the office without fail until emergency falls. This will ensure better performance of
the employees as well as the organisation. Rewards are a way to assure the employees
that there contribution will be appreciated by the higher authority. This is something that
excites the employees and creates willingness to work(Kinicki, A. and Fugate, M., 2016).
8. Good Management: Bad management is the reason the employees resign from the job.
According to a survey, More than 30% of employees leaves the job due to the bad
management in the organisation. A good management can help in solving this problem.
Also, cooperation from the employees will motivate them to work with full efficiency
and will definitely improve the quality of work and the performance of the organisation.
9. Improving Communication: The best way to motivate employees is to communicate with
them in a positive and by giving them the proper respect they deserve. Employers or the
managers should communicate with their subordinates on a regular basis this will make
sure that there are no grudges in the hearts of the employees like determination(Robbins,
S.P. and Judge, T.A., 2019).
10. Value the contributions: Employers should value the contributions made by the
employees. This is the best and most practical way of motivating the employees in the
organisation. Employees will take pride and will get involved in their work which will
help them complete their targets which will help the organisation achieve it's goals and
objectives. Valuing the participation of the employees and rewarding them accordingly
will set emotional values in the hearts of the employees towards the organisation.

CONCLUSION
After considering the above report it can be concluded that, Organisational behaviour is
the analysis of the behaviour of the workforce of an organisation which ascertains it's impact on
job structure, performance, communication, motivation, leadership, etc. Motivation in the
organisational behaviour refers to the process of influencing employees at work so that they can
perform with full attention and concentration in the organisation. Motivation practices can
different for different employees that means the technique used can vary from person to person
or employee to employee. Motivation techniques which can be used by the managers and
employers can be better communication with the employees, job security, flexible schedules and
deadlines, incentives, rewards, etc. These techniques are the result of the experiments and
surveys done in the organisation by the top researchers.
