INTRODUCTION
BBC is a news channel in UK, describes about the latest news and incidents based on
facts by video coverage. An incident of child abuse in the premises committed by Jimmy who
was the employee in BBC. This incident was shocking and put impact on the society by knowing
the risks for kids. Later on for the protection UK government commenced many laws including
their protection at workplace are detailed in this report. The negative impact on BBC and
recovering of such terms are detailed with the help of theories and modals which are taken into
practical for effectiveness of work and employees in BBC. This can be seen in this report as
below.
TASK 1
a) Influence of politics and power on the behaviour of others
Handy's cultural typology:
By defining the culture of an organisation, Charles Handy acted as a leading authority by
defining it in four different ways (Handy's cultural typology 2015).
Power culture: As everyone knows power cannot be given to each individual for the
regulation of organisation. There should be few superiors and others remain as
subordinates. The subordinates follow the instructions of superior. Only a few members
of BBC have been chosen and handed over some powers so that they can effectively run
the organisation (Chumg and et.al., 2016). Under power culture, the limited rules and
regulations are given to eligible members. In addition, others are judged on the basis of
how they work rather than how they act. By this, rapid decisions are made in BBC about
the interested workers who can work for long term.
Role culture: This culture defines about the role that is performed by instructing and also
by following the rules and regulations of organisation. In BBC, the role culture is
performed on hierarchical structure. Role culture in BBC is determined by position of
authorities by following the role in a chain of command from the superior till the
subordinates.
Task culture: Problems are fixed with the help of task culture. In BBC, when the
problem arises of child abuse largely, this was settled by the task performers. Some
powers are given to the authorised and skilled people on basis of personality and
leadership to solve the problems (Coccia, 2014).

Person culture: Person culture defines about the superiority of employees and
authorities in their own field. BBC has divided into departments for the performance of
the tasks and problems. They understand their own responsibilities and perform
efficiently and effectively for the running of BBC.
Smith review on organisational culture of BBC
BBC appointed Smith for the inquiry of sexual abuse as it was committed by Jimmy
Savile. Jimmy Savile is hosting a radio and popular television. In premises of BBC, Smith
collected some evidences from the child with whom the offence was conducted by Jimmy Savile.
The people who worked with Jimmy was concern about it, also they were familiar with the
culture and practices of BBC. By being concern about the teenagers and youngsters they
prevented so far and the proper information about the incident had with persons who were
seniors.
B) Politics and powers affected within BBC
Jimmy was on front page news and it negatively impacted on BBC. According to Jimmy,
at the time of processing of court, the charges of abuse left him with shock. People never wanted
to read such stories on newspaper said by a reporter to Jimmy. Also, nobody will see the lines
about the news in the future (Kitchin, 2017). This in the times of 1970s as said by a reporter by
using the word “paedophilia”, which means content is not worthy to execute in evening papers.
But now, the time has been changed also the attitudes towards the positivity, but the
people when remember about the past they start warning their kids about the men with
“wandering hands” who will exploit their childhood.
Today's culture in BBC
Many laws are compiled at workplace for the protection of women under the Sex
Discrimination Act of 1975, which strictly warns about the misconduct with the women staff at
the place of work. In case of Harassment, the law is enacted in 1997 for the protection of women.
The right of employment equality regulations are enacted in 2005, which punish against harming
her dignity, also any kind of humiliating etc. also enforced in BBC. For the protection of female
staff, BBC also took some measures for not happening of such incidents further as it not only
impact the environment, but also create fear among the women's and kids which is not good.
Cultural and political powers also got affected by this incident (Christina, and et.al., 2014).

A) Theory of motivation and techniques that helped to achieve its goals
To know about the channel partners and employees the motivation has created two bodies
of knowledge that are applicable which is explained in below report.
Content theory: It indicates about the use of number of theories for planning of
programs in organisation. Content theory focuses on motivating people.
Process theory: There are four process theories that describes about the behaviour like,
to energise, sustain or to stop and also to direct the activities of the employees of BBC.
Reinforcement and goal setting theories: Researchers have supported this method as it
creates a reason to be engaged in accomplishment of tasks.
Expectancy and equity theories: For the designing of compensation plans, expectancy
equity theory is helpful (Martins, 2016).
B) Techniques that improved effectiveness in BBC:
For the improvement in the productivity and the effectiveness in the work of employees the
following are the techniques that helps in bringing the results.
Creating positive environment: BBC created positive environment for the employees to
work effectively and also to change the negative impact that are among the public. They
provided safety and enforced rules for the protection of female workers. BBC also
provided knowledge and potential tools to work effectively and efficiently.
Setting goals: An objective is set by BBC and to achieve the goals successfully, they
engaged the employees towards its achievement. BBC motivated employees confidently
and established contribution towards positive atmosphere.
Providing incentives: BBC also provided incentives and compensations to the
employees for bringing the effectiveness and efficiency in work. These incentives and
compensations helped the employees to get motivated towards the achievement of results.
C) Levels of motivation within BBC to achieve organisational goals
The levels of motivation of BBC employees to get the set organisational goals are detailed below
with elaborations.
Accepting challenging tasks: As the employees of BBC got motivated in terms of
appreciation, compensations they got encouragement towards the acceptance and
performance of challenging tasks.

Supported new ideas: BBC achieved its objectives with the help of encouraging and
motivating employees from the past, which lead them to innovate and support for new
thoughts and visions (Junaid, and Haar, 2015).
Opportunities to grow: Employees got opportunities to grow with the growth of BBC.
The encouragement and motivation enabled the employees to maximise the efforts by
working hard, which resulted in the positivity and profitability of BBC.
Created healthy competition: Efficiency and effectiveness in work helped to create a
healthy competition among other organisations with resulting positive. They
communicated each ideas and new thoughts and worked on them effectively for the
desired results. Healthy competition lead the BBC to get back its name up-to certain
limits.
Sharing of organisational goal with each member: BBC authorities after the incident of
child abuse to get back the drowned image, enabled every employee to know about the
goals of the organisation. That, helped the employees to work effectively towards the
achievement of goals.
Made employees feel appreciated: Employees of BBC strongly felt and realised the
appreciation which gained in result of their efficiency in work. The appreciation
motivated them to work more potentially by completion of their own targets.
Each individual empowered: With the help of motivation each employee empowered
with their knowledge and skills by resulting in success of BBC and coming out of the
incident which, was disaster for them (Pereira, Malik, and Froese, 2017).
Created and maintained team spirit: Some performance was executed with the help of
teams and team leaders. BBC never let go the spirit and maintained so well to carry on
the results and performances.
Celebrated each successes: BBC after the effective planning and coordinating the work
they celebrated each and every success of the employees, which explored the
performance of the employees and took the BBC to another level.

A) Importance of types of different teams in BBC
The team and its effective is important for the BBC as they gone through the collapse
situations in their premises. The effectiveness of different teams played an important role for

coming out in the worst situation. An offence by Jimmy led the whole BBC to suffer. The
followings are the different types of team that played an important role to bring back the BBC
towards its goal.
Problem solving team: The name of the team mention about its performing task. This
team effectively focused on the incident created by Jimmy and also they paid attention
towards the financial crisis which was the impact of the particular offence occurred in the
premises of BBC. The importance of this problem solving team is arise as problems are
unpredictable in every organisation. Nobody plans about producing problems, hence this
team helps the BBC and other organisations to come out successfully by adopting certain
measures (Moerdyk, and et.al., 2015).
Functional team: Members of functional team came forward to cope up with the
situation occurred in the premises of BBC. The work of functional team is to mingle with
the other teams for time being in order to sort the situation in positive way. In BBC the
functional team collaborated with the other team to preform its duties and
responsibilities. The importance of functional team is as the team gets mingled with other
team for performing which, explore with lots of views.
Project team: There was many projects that takes place in organisations to handle,
different projects teams are allotted. Project team at the time of offence happen in BBC
concentrated on the projects that were supposed to submit on time. Project team played a
vital role in BBC and in other organisations for the effective handling and submission of
projects on time.
Virtual team: Instead of focusing on geography virtual team choose digital way to
communicate. The virtual team in BBC helped the premises by handling the incident and
spreading the fact digitally. The strength and weakness is not measured by virtual team
they concentrate on geography. This team is important for the purpose of web
presentations to produce the facts (Zaghini, and et.al., 2017).
B) Tuckmen and Jensen's model of team development helped BBC making effective team
Developing the sequences in small group and leading the BBC with high performances
by following the path of Tuckmen and Jensen's model. This model made effective team by the

Forming: Different team members play a different role by way of reacting like, some
members feel as they have understood everything, other remain calm and polite, and rest
as excited for new tasks. Forming method in BBC helped the employees in the same way
as they were not clear with the situation how to react but adopting this method
encouraged towards effectiveness.
Storming: the team of BBC took towards storming stage where they are pushed with
work load to explore themselves effectively. The work load made engage the team to pay
attention and get distracted from the happened incident in the premises.
Norming: Strong commitments are made in by moving towards the skills and
knowledges by removing the differences. The progress can be seen in the results through
the norming phase ().
Performing: By delegating responsibilities and authorities and the hard-work enable the
team to perform for the tasks. BBC achieved a lot by performing effectively with the help
of Tuckmen and Jensen's model.
Adjourning: This stage helped the team members for achieving and completing the
projects on decided time which impacted positively among the clients towards BBC.
Completion of task is achieved with the help of process of Tuckman and Jensen's modal
which effectively resulted in BBC work.
TASK 4
A) Path goal theory improved performances and productivity of BBC
The behaviour of the leaders in BBC and the impact that occurs on the satisfaction of
employees job, their encouragement towards work and efficiency and effectiveness towards
work can be known with the work of Path goal theory by knowing the performance and
productivity. This can be well known by the Path gaol theory which indicates difference in
behaviour.
Achievement – oriented behaviour: This behaviour explains about the potential work
by constant focusing on the productivity of BBC. The excellency in performing the roles
assigned to the workers of the by accepting the challenging goals of the BBC exhibited
confidence in them. To achieve the effective and efficiency in work achievement –
oriented behaviour is encouraged in premises of BBC to get the desired results.

Directive path – goal behaviour: The leaders of the BBC helps the employees towards
the direction of move for the accomplishment of tasks with perfection. Leaders expect
from the employees to meet the expectations with high performances. With the help of
directive path – goal behaviour the subordinates get the correct direction for the
accomplishment of task by performing so well without ant kind of misguidance.
Supportive leader behaviour: Knowing the employees psychologically and the
subordinates for their requirements at place of work, helps the subordinates to meet the
effectiveness in work. For the well being of subordinate, leaders of BBC take care of
their medical services or other services as per their needs to meet the efficiency in result.
Participative leader behaviour: Subordinates requirements of jobs are fulfilled by the
participative leader by involving them in process of decision making. This helps them to
enhance the subordinates talents and bring out the results in form of effectiveness in
productivity(Clay-Williams and Braithwaite, 2015).
B) Barriers in the performance of BBC
The barriers in the performance of BBC is explained below which indicates the lack of efficiency
in achieving the results.
Lack of preparation: The incidents occurred in would never be happened if the
management of have paid attention towards the members of staff and their behaviour. In
the investigation it came to know about the early complaints of staff that was not taken
into consideration by the management which encouraged Jimmy indirectly for such
performance. This incident resulted in disaster as it was the result of lack of preparation
about the safety of the well beings.
Poor communication: Lack of communication and also said as poor communication
between the authorities and the employees of the BBC made to face the offence that took
place by the employee in premises. At the time of first complaint the management of
should have warned regarding the misbehaviour, which may have prevented the incident.
Unclear goals: The goals of the BBC must have clear regarding the performance which
encouraged Jimmy at that time towards the accomplished of goals. When the effective
leaders divide into team or give some duties to perform the employees may not divert
their idiotic thoughts towards such cheap things. May be goals of BBC unclear which
made the employees to roam free in the premises and it let the offence happen.

Lack of managerial involvement: At the time of first complaint the designated
authorities of BBC would have pay attention towards miss-behave of existing employees
which was their primary duty to perform towards the employees. The involvement of
management was lacking in its performance which is suffered by a child by getting a
question mark on safety of other children including the female staff of the BBC and other
organisations. To develop the process of work in BBC the involvement of management is
essential for the successful and smooth existence (Importance of types of different teams
2015).
Ego: The ego between the management and the staff of BBC employees created a wider
barrier which affected the psychology of employees and put the team into difficulties in
terms. The ego should have kept aside for the goodness of well being which may not
have resulted in much offence.
CONCLUSION
In the above report the offence done by Jimmy in the years of 1970 which questioned on
the protection of female employees as well as children's. The impact that lead the BBC to suffer
and the theories and modals that are opted by BBC for the recovering are explained in this report.
The new director of BBC helped to recover the loss occurred by the lack of involvement of
management. The effective methods to remove the barriers and also the methods to perform
effectively is adopted are detailed in above report.
