Week 4
Activity 1: Structure and Strategy
Answer1 – As it is the central dimension of competitive advantage because the strategy
of an organization is the behavior of its people. The next step after the strategy is the ‘structure’
and most of the companies actually do not have any plan for making the constructive structure,
but unless they know about what does generic strategy actually mean they are just going to
follow (Robertson 2015). Nevertheless this is not usually the case as the organizations is not
ready to give any strategy as they do not have them from before and as a result these kinds of
organization generally do have a obvious focus on how the power will be distributed in different
levels.
Activity 2: Holocracy
Answer 1- Even though the true fact is that bureaucracy and hierarchy are driven by
power of individual and rules, Holocracy are exclusively driven by the power of freedom and
ideas. Employees who are in conventional forms of managerial structure might end up doing
peripheral jobs which might not be present in their job description and therefore just to satisfy
their superiors and bosses to be on their good book. However Holocracy influence people to
define and know what they want to do and do work according to that. This conveys a bigger
sense of duty and role definition for every employee.
Answer 2- In Zappos the Contingent factors are still at work as their department are currently
changing themselves in the new system (Denning 2014). They are in the transition period. There
is both hope and anxiety which is inspiring them to establish the giant tech. They believe that

holocracy is the future of the management. They are still unsure about their flexibility and
adaptability; however they are going towards it. In a chaotic environment it works as an
advantage for the CEO to hand over authority in order to encourage the experiment.
Answer 3- The organizational transformation from one step to another needs vision and
leadership from the senior management, further it needs the organization to possess the property
of organizational innovation. It requires flexibility in all aspects of the organizations value chain
and the information system is the main factor of that flexibility. Innovation is the new founder of
an organizational structure and henceforth it can add value to that organization.
Week 5
Activity 1- The Milgram Experiment
Answer 1- It will completely depend on the level of obedience that the person has and it
also depends on the morality of that person. Personally I would never inflict or induce pain on
others be it physical and mental or emotional. However it depends on the state and the reason
that why there is a need to induce pain on the first hand. At times it happens that when a person
is extremely angry he or she feels like hitting another person, but hurting someone without any
reason or just because someone said to do so is completely obnoxious (Bègue et al. 2015).
Activity 2- Solomon Asch and Group Conformity
Answer 1- Decision making generally depends on personal morals and preferences,
however at times it does have an objective. Often the decision takes place due to some reason
which is not even valid, nevertheless the aim is to satisfy one’s own need and to make sure that
does not harm anyone unnecessarily.

Answer 2- The desire to be accepted by others is human nature, there is need of acceptance
inside every human being, however every person has their own individuality which makes them
different from others, therefore I believe that even there is s need of acceptance still one should
voice their opinion. Generally it depends on person to person; a person with strong character will
stand for his or her own sake and will make a difference irrespective of what others think but in
case of a submissive or weak person it will never happen and the person will go with the group
as per the group majority (Kundu and Cummins 2013).
Answer 3- Many a times it has been seen that in a group if maximum number of people are on
one side and then the others follow them as well, like if the majority of group member follow
something, which might be wrong and still the rest will follow just in order to maintain peace in
the group and most of the times out of fear. There are numerous factors which affects an
individual and group pressure at work or college often happens which ends up badly.
