Organizational behavior refers to the study of organization including the groups and individuals
involved in day to day activities. Basically it is related to the study of human behavior within the
organization and the interface between the human behavior and the organization. The main
motive behind the study of organizational behavior is to make the organization more efficient
and also to achieve the goals in an effective manner. There are some factors or forces that affect
an organization and we can classify them into four areas-
People: People are the essential part of the organization. Everything depends on the
working pattern of the employees. If the employees or people are efficient enough then
the goals and objectives can be achieved easily (Miner, 2015).
Technology: The organization should take into consideration updated technology so that
work can be finished in effective way. The technology also plays an important role in the
conducting day to day operations of the business.
Structure: The structure of the organization should be designed in proper way. If the
structure of the organization if efficient enough then the organization can easily achieve
its goals and objectives.
Environment: There should be friendly environment in the organization so that
employees can feel comfortable to work in effective manner. Every employee like the
organization where the environment is good enough to conduct the day to day operations
(Armstrong and Taylor, 2014).
There should be proper management of all these forces for the goal accomplishment and the
growth of the organization. There are many contemporary motivational theories that are used by
organization to attract and retain employee’s like-
1. Self- determination theory- It is related to the behavior of the people when they are not in
control. This theory says that employees should never lose the control even when they
face any difficult situation.
2. Goal- Setting Theory- Goal setting theory says that the tasks given to the employees
should be challenging enough for them so it can improve the performance of the

organization. There is an assumption of this theory that employees are committed to the
goals of the organization and they will contribute in it effectively.
3. Self-efficacy theory- This theory is known as social learning theory. It describes the
thoughts of the employees regarding any particular task or work allotted to them. If
employees of an organization have a high efficacy then they will be more confident and
that can increase the chances of success of the organization.
4. Equity theory- In this theory, employees calculates the inputs and the outputs for
themselves and then compares it to any other person in the organization (Betsch and
Haberstroh, 2014).
There are different types of employees in the organization and they behave in a different way.
Different types of behavior are-
1. Cognitive- People who behaves in a cognitive way are always eager to represent their
thoughts, beliefs, knowledge and ideas about something. They are expressive in nature.
2. Affective- Affective behavior refers to the feeling that is brought outside relating to
something, like hate, love, fear etc.
3. Conative- It is also known as the behavioral component and it focuses on people who
behave in a different way for different things. Their behavior varies from situation to
situation (Giacalone and Rosenfeld, 2013).
There is a lot of importance of evidence management. This term has come in existence in the
1990s for medicine background but now its principle has applied to education, social work,
management etc. Evidence management describes that all the management decisions should be
taken according to critical thinking and the best evidence available. There can be any type of
evidence like research, business information, reports, information etc. Evidence based
approaches can be applied to interpret management and organizational behavior. It helps in
making better management decisions as it involves critical thinking and these decisions can be
applied in the organization in an effective way as it considers best evidence available (Pinder,
2014).
Communication is an important part of any organization and there should be proper interpersonal
and personal skills adopted by the employees. It includes-

Verbal communication- There should be proper words and proper way to communicate in
the organization so that it can be clearly understandable.
Non- Verbal communication- Non – Verbal communication plays and important part as
we all know actions speaks louder than words. So, while communication, there should be
proper facial expressions, body language and hand gestures.
Listening- It is important to listen things carefully and process the information in a
correct way.
Negotiation skills- It refers to the set of skills that helps in negotiation in a professional
manner and reaches to a decision (Locke and Latham, 2013).
Success of an organization does not depend upon the work or efforts of an individual employee
but the efforts of the team. Team building in an important part in organization’s success in many
ways-
Delegation of responsibility- When people work in a team, they can able to know the
weaknesses and strengths of the team member. By knowing this, they can manage their
tasks accordingly and it will not become difficult for weak people to fulfill their task in
the best manner.
Efficiency of team- When people work in team, it becomes very easy for them to
complete the tasks quickly and efficiently. Accuracy for the tasks is also good in
teamwork. This helps the organization to assign more than one tasks to a team and it does
not require hiring new employees for the same (Loock, Staake and Thiesse, 2013).
Support- When people work in a team, they support each other and help each other in
every way. Team work creates a sense of responsibility within each team member. If
there is proper team work in the organization then the goals and objectives can be
achieved in effective manner (Haslam, van Knippenberg, Platow and Ellemers, 2014).
There are many problems that the organizations are facing now days. For resolving such
problems, organizational behavior theories can be applied. Listening is an important factor
for problem solving as listening makes things more clear, transparent and understandable. It
helps in discovering the core problem. After knowing the problem, evaluation should be
done. Evaluation refers to a process of information gathering with the help of listening and
then makes results out of it. There are many steps to be undertaken to find out the solution. It

America had turned into a nation of employees who “take the vows of organization life”.
This statement is correct in the context of organization United States as the organizations has
started using organizational behavior approach to resolve the problem and making the best
outcome out of the efforts done by the employees. They motivate employees to work in
teams and employees get support by their team members that helps them to achieve the goals
and fulfill the task within the given deadline. If the goals and objectives are achieved in
effective manner then it is seen that there is enhancement in the working pattern. These
approaches have been very useful for organizations to work efficiently and making a positive
environment in the organizations. It leads to low employee turnover and higher employee
satisfaction (DuBrin, 2013).
