INTRODUCTION
Organisational behaviour consist very important role within the BBC. Earlier culture of
the company will be identified and how culture, power and politics will affect the organisation
(Wood, Zeffane and Osborn, 2016). Motivational theories of content and process will be
discussed and how these motivational theories help BBC to improve its effectiveness by which
organisational goals of the company will be achieved. Importance of having different teams
within the organisation and what qualities will make an effective team. How performance of the
team and productivity of the organisation can be improved and what are the main barriers which
affect the performance of organisation.
TASK 1
A- Earlier organisational behaviours within the BBC.
BBC is the oldest broadcasting company of the world. But earlier it was reported that
employees of the company were not happy with management of the organisation. Employees
complained that they are not being involved in any decision making of the organisation.
According to the Handy's cultural typology power of making decisions in BBC remains in the
hand of only few people. Managers of the organisation made mistakes and no action were taken
against them. Teams in the organisation never gave the appreciable performance because of their
non-efficient leaders (Mullins and Christy, 2013). Person culture means too much importance is
given to employees of organisation and they do what they want to do. Person culture was being
followed in some sections of organisation where employees only come for some time pass but
doing no work as assigned to them. Role culture means giving the full responsibility to employee
to perform the task. Role culture of cultural typology was never followed in the organisation of
BBC because employer gave tasks but never gave the power to take the responsibility of the task.
BBC was called bureaucratic by its employees because power always remains in the hand of
some non- efficient members. Leaders and managers of the organisation had no skills to lead and
manage the company (Kitchin, 2017). Power culture means power of holding the all
responsibilities in the hand of higher authorities only and task culture means giving or delegating
the tasks to that person who are capable of handling that responsibility.
Too many employees got employed in the BBC which reduced the promotion rate of
other old employees. According to smith's study it was concluded that there were many

employees who were abused in the premises of the organisation and management of BBC did not
do anything to stop such practices. Employee’s complains against these activities was never
heard by the authorities of BBC. It was never revealed earlier about the hazardous activities done
in the organisation because BBC was more concerned about reputation of the company than for
the victims of these activities.
B- Impact of culture, power and politics on organisational behaviour in past and present of
BBC and present developed culture of the organisation.
Organisational behaviour of BBC was very much effected by the culture, power and
politics. In the culture of the organisation, employees were treated very badly, they were abused
and never got any chance to prove themselves in the company (Coccia, 2014). Employees were
never given a safe and secure environment to work, they were highly dissatisfied with the
management of the organisation. Employees of BBC never got motivated by their managers and
leaders. Their efficiency to work was side-lined. Power of making decisions was always in the
hand of some non-efficient persons who do not know to make decisions and managed the
employees inefficiently. Employees of the organisation never got involved in any decision-
making process of the BBC. Workers never got any power to take the responsibility of the task.
BBC was also politically threatened by its competitors. Organisation never followed any rules
and regulation made by the government (Hyde, Harris and Boaden, 2013).
Politics will definitely influence the organisation in some or other way. Leaders and
managers of the BBC will have to manage the organisation in these times.
In recent years the organisational behaviour of BBC has rapidly changed. Now the
organisation has developed positive culture and provided safe and secure environment to its
employees. It also gives job training to the employees to enhance their skill to work efficiently.
Organisation gives power to the workers to complete task and take decision regarding it. BBC
tries to updated with all changes in laws and regulations to apply these changes in organisation as
fast as possible. Organisation also tries to keep good relations with its competitors (Pereira,
Pereira and Froese, 2017). Handy theory of organisational behaviour can be used in BBC to
improve its working. It contains power, task, role and person culture. The cited organisation can
use role culture it will be best for the company because it will help them to delegate the
responsibilities and giving power to employees to perform the task.

BBC can also use the theory Schein organisational culture in their business. This theory
contains three stages Artifacts, Values, Assumed values. According to artifacts there will dress
code for employee, respect the higher authorities and work on time. In values stage it is
concluded that organisation should value their employees. On the stage of assumed value
organisation keep in mind all the problems of employee whether male or female. Using thie
theory will help BBC to implement equity in organisation and make their employees satisfied.

more hard. Motivation to employees of BBC can be given by these theories.

and different satisfaction levels which will give them motivation to work hard (Motivational
