INTRODUCTION
Organizational behaviour is a study where it reflects how the people interact with each
other at the workplace from where the particular company gets the highly impact over the
business areas. To run any kind of business they are required to understand the significance of
the organizational behaviour and should maintain the company's environment positively so that
the company can run effectively. The organization Marks and Spencer is a multinational
company who deals in clothing and apparels which is headquartered at United Kingdom. The
company is facing such a problem relating to organizational behaviour where they have to work
on solving the issue in respective manner (Peters, Calvo and Ryan, 2018). This report will reflect
the particular issue the company is facing and also mention some models to deal with the issue
gently. Also, the report will design some intervention in regard to solve or improve the situation
with some appropriate recommendations.
MAIN BODY
Identification of a problem
To run any kind of company they are required to understand the concept of organizational
behaviour from where the organization can be able to grow and develop themselves effectively.
The company Marks and Spencer has to adopt the knowledge of the organization behaviour
where the company is facing the issue in motivating the employee and staff of their organization
and leads them to obtain the low productivity and ineffective results and outcome.
Due to low motivation among employee makes them to work in indefinite manner and
delivers the lower outcome. Motivation is a kind of feeling which encourages the employee and
staff members to contribute their best efforts and hard work from where the company can get the
best and successful outcome and can grow efficiently (Pamidimukkala, Kermanshachi and Jahan
Nipa, 2021). Providing the motivation allow the staff members and employee to achieve their set
goals and targets and can obtain the successful results effectively.
Brief introduction to the organization
Marks and Spencer is a British multinational organization where it is headquartered at
London, England. The company deals in clothing, beauty and home products and even food
products as well. The organization was founded in year 1884 by Michael Marks and Thomas
Spencer whereby concluding their surnames the organization name has been kept as Marks and
Spencer. Today, the company is growing and developing on daily basis and currently has 959

stores across the UK where approximately 615 stores which sells food products and do the
television advertising for raising their business in definite manner. The company focuses on
providing the appropriate services to the customers and a proper convenience to the employee of
the company from where they can be able to feel comfortable and positive in this kind of
working environment (Shin and Hur, 2020).
The company is able to deliver their products and services by advertising their goods
through different channels including television and social media platform from where the people
and consumers can be aware of the products launched by the company Marks and Spencer.
However, in the previous research it has been founded that the company is successfully
developing day by day whereas the company is now facing from the issue due to lack of
motivation among employee where it impacts the results of the company makes them to acquire
the poor outcome. Thus, the company M&S has to implement some actions to deal with the issue
in definite manner.
Describing the problem
In the research, it has been identified that the company M&S is facing the issue of lack of
motivation where the company is obtaining the indefinite result and outcome. The term
motivation simply defines as a process or guidance which allows and ensure the individual to put
efforts and hard work to achieve their set goals and targets in definite manner from where the
employee can be able to improve their performance effectively. The M&S company is a
successful organization and understands the importance of organizational behaviour, but they
lack in providing and delivering the appropriate amount of motivation to their employee and staff
members which is the major concern of the company (Miminoshvili and Černe, 2022).
Motivation helps the people to contribute their efforts in the working process and can work
effectively which will result the company in higher productivity.
Due to lower level of motivation it causes the depression, anxiety and other mental health
issues where they lead to seek help from the professionals to balance their emotions. Poor
motivation at the workplace also leads to higher employee turnover, low level of engagement
and lower down the productivity effectively. The company M&S has a responsibility and a major
duty to keep their focus on employee motivational area and put some implications to improve the
level of motivation among the employee of the company from where the problems can be
resolved effectively and can acquire the definite amount of outcome respectively.

The company Marks and Spencer has to put and adopt some relevant model to resolve
their issue and can provide the motivation to the employee effectively. Here, mentioning a model
named Maslow Hierarchy of Needs which is essentially required to be followed by the company

below in regard to solve the problem respectively.
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs
Physiological needs: The first need reflects the physiological needs which includes the human
survival needs such as food and water, sufficient rest, clothing, shelter and overall health which
should be appropriately fulfilled by the working of the employee at the company (Duygun and
Şen, 2020). The M&S company has to keep their focus on this type of need of the human
employee which helps them to motivate them effectively.
Safety needs: The second need is safety needs where the protection, well-being, health security,
theft and financial security should be a major concern for the M&S company in relation to their
employee from where the employee of the company can feel safe at the workplace and can
motivate themselves to work effectively without any instability.
Love and belonging needs: Social needs is the third level of the model which relates to the
human interaction and makes them to feel comfortable and valuable at the workplace. This
includes the needs like friendship and family where the physical and emotional bonds are
important to meet the needs from belonging to a team of employee. A good and positive working
environment delivers the appropriate social needs to the employee of the M&S and leads them to
feel motivated.
Esteem needs: This level of model involves the esteem needs like respect, dignity and
acknowledge to grow and develop themselves effectively and can obtain the personal
opportunity to obtain the definite success (Tezcan UYSAL and KAYHAN, 2018). The company
Marks and Spencer has to provide the equal respect and opportunity to the employee as per their
performance from where they can feel motivated and comfortable respectively.
Self-actualization needs: The last level of the Maslow model reflects the self-actualization or a
self-fulfilment needs where the company M&S has to keep their focus on other potential

interested activities as well. This level of need includes music, cooking, learning new language,
travelling to new places and such more.
Designing of intervention
Identification of the problem: The first step and process is to identify the problem in definite
manner from where the company M&S can grow and develop successfully. The above report has
discussed the issue the company is facing is lack of motivation among employee which leads
them to lower down their productivity and outcome.
Proper communication: The second step is a proper communication which is important to be
implemented in definite manner. At the workplace, the appropriate communication is important
with the employee so that they can easily discuses their views and thinking effectively and can
feel comfortable to talk about anything. A direct communication helps the employee and
management of the company to discuses the issue effectively and can focus on adopting the
solutions respectively.
Find the reason: The third step and process is to find the actual reason and purpose of the issue
where what is the reason behind the lack of motivation faced by the company so that the proper
solution can be obtained effectively (Kim and Shin, 2020).
Develop solutions: The final process is to develop some solutions so that the company M&S can
be able to deliver the higher level of motivation to the employee so that the higher level of
employee turnover can be reduced effectively and can reduce the depression and anxiety among
the employee of the organization.
CONCLUSION
The above mentioned report has identified the issue which is faced by the mentioned
organization and leads them to obtain the lower amount of productivity. The report has
highlighted and discusses the issue which is relating to the organizational behaviour. Also, the
report has provided the brief about the company and mentioned the Maslow hierarchy needs of
model to reflect the solution in increasing the motivation level among employee and staff
members of the company. In addition, the report has mentioned few steps and process which the
company needs to follow and adopt for improving and solving the issue of the particular
situation.
