Introduction
The main objective of the reflection will be to study different organizational behavior
experienced in the workplace. The main concept is to combine the topic and knowledge I have
gained throughout the semester with self-awareness activities in the workplace. Throughout the
semester, Organizational Behavior, it has evaluated several issues that focused on the personality
of an individual. So, it will reflect on the concepts of organizational behavior that can be helpful
to become a successful businessperson. I will discuss two areas in organizational behavior;
working with different personalities and difficult conversations and effective feedback.
Main Context
Self- Reflection
I am Raja Sekhar Reddy Pulagam, an international student from India. I have done my Bachelors
in Business Management in India and pursuing a Masters in Business Administration. I want to
explain myself with the below-mentioned characters:
Personality – As I am a strong spirited person, I would like to face challenges in the real world,
and that is the reason behind choosing my Masters in Business Administration. I am very polite
and respectable with the people around me, and I never judge anyone too quickly. I was attentive
about my work as I prefer quality than quantity.
Emotional Intelligence – Sometimes, I am very curious about what people think of me. I am
always in control of my emotions as I am aware of my strengths and weaknesses. Emotional
intelligence is leading, and the main trait in human behavior. I am the person with self-regulatory
behavior, and I do not want to be influenced by others without proper thinking, and I feel
emotional at the point of connection in conversation.
Global Citizenship – It is vital to know the cultures and traditions of different people in the
workplace to get rid of any misunderstandings. I would love to travel to several nations to know
their customs, habits and meet new people. According to my opinion, I feel it is necessary to
have global citizenship for my personal growth in my career.
Spirituality and Spiritual Orientation at Work – I am a spiritual person, and I believe in
people with spirituality because they possess a positive mindset and optimistic towards their

goal. I think that spirituality makes us work-driven, and I feel it is necessary to self-motivate
spiritually towards the work and make happy people around us by respecting their habits.
Quality rather than Quantity: - I would like to give more preference to quality rather than
quantity in order to get fruitful results, and it is essential at the workplace. I believe in the slogan,
"Practice does not make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect” by Vince Lombardi because this
slogan makes a lot of sense these days.
Analyzing the reflection on myself, two questions arise on the basis of two organizational
behavior; working with different personalities and difficult conversations and effective feedback.
The questions are as follows:
1. How do my behaviors impact on my approach to work with different personalities?
2. How do my behaviors impact on my approach to difficult conversations and providing
effective feedback?
Reflection on Working with Different Personalities at Workplace
Being a manager of a software organization, I have to work with diverse people in my
workplace. Making sure of the delivery of the tasks on time and as planned is the most
significant responsibility of a manager. Each task is different from each other, and the success of
these tasks depends on the team. My team is a combination of fresh and experienced employees
from different backgrounds and cultures.
At any workplace, the behaviors of an individual play a vital role as it helps to cope up the
working atmosphere and fulfill the responsibilities of the job successfully (Åhlin et al., 2015). As
I am a strong spirited person, I like to face challenges in the real world. So, it works as my
strength and highlights the polite and respectable nature in me. The nature in me also highlights
my highly sociable nature and style. My fellow staffs in my workplace are from diverse
backgrounds and cultures. Moreover, every day, my workplace gives me new challenges which I
need to handle to accomplish my targets successfully. My spirited nature attracts me towards
other employees and also the new opportunities and challenges at my workplace generates
excitement in me. I feel incredibly free with my colleagues due to my spiritedness.

Working with diverse people and temperaments lead to higher possibilities to bring unique
perspectives for solving any workplace issues (Bouncken and Reuschl, 2018). It also indicates
that there might be several ways to handle the problems of the workplace. For instance, a staff
who possess a spontaneous personality has the possibility to have several ideas to solve a
problem, while staff with serious personality and nature might logically evaluate the pros and
cons of the solutions (Bozer and Jones, 2018).
My spirited nature also helped me to create a friendly and focused work environment at my
workplace. The building of a friendly and focused work environment at the workplace helps to
improve productivity and ensure better accomplishment of targets (Bradley and Campbell,
2016). The formation of such a situation has helped to motivate me as well as my colleagues to
create the passion and urge within us to work correctly. It is necessary to have spirited nature to
work as a team, and my spirited nature has been a great help for the team for performing together
and achieving the desired targets. As a result, we use the strengths of one another and overcome
our weaknesses without any conflicts.
This nature of mine also helped me to create a balanced and strong workplace with a
combination of diverse personalities in my team. Those introvert and quiet staffs often help to
improve things at the workplace, but those employees who are risk-takers could provide the
motivation needed for trying innovative things, develop bold concepts and advise for more
improvements to encourage for effectiveness at the workplace (Brown, 2015). If an organization
is with too many similar types of personalities might focus on particular tasks but might ignore
other equally vital tasks (Van der Leeuw, Teunissen, and van der Vleuten, 2018). Working with
diverse personalities helps me in compensating an individual‘s weaknesses and strengths
(Eskenazi, 2019).
I am also a spiritual person, and I believe in people with spirituality because they possess a
positive mindset and optimistic towards their goal. I think that spirituality makes us work-driven,
and I feel it is necessary to self-motivate spiritually towards the work and make happy people
around us by respecting their habits. Due to this nature, I like to have fun during my work and
tend to seek positivity from my co-workers more than from my inner-self. This nature has helped
me to maintain a positive approach while working and towards my co-workers as well to the
challenges at the workplace, which makes it easy for me to resolve by appropriate responses.

My spiritual nature is also essential for teamwork as various individuals create a team. Therefore,
conflicts are frequently perceived in the team due to differences in approaches, working styles,
and beliefs (Goh, Pfeffer and Zenios, 2015). It leads to a negative approach in the team which
hampers the work environment and the work relations. It helps to bring the team together as I
approach them with great positivity and also eradicates the negativity in the group by resolving
the issues faced by the organization. This nature in me also helps me to work exceptionally with
the team. This nature motivates me for taking initiatives for the team, and as a result, it helps me
to bring the whole team together.
But with the positives also comes the negatives which I have to improve to create a capable
team. My spiritual nature is also one of my negative features. This nature for taking initiatives
for the team but sometimes I get so carried away with this nature that I forget to consider the
viewpoints of my team members and I becomes the only person to take initiatives for my team.
This nature setbacks my team members as they want to take actions to resolve the issues or finish
the tasks. It has often led to conflicts in the team and hampered the work environment. I have to
overcome this and have to consider the priorities of my team members. For example, during any
task, I can ask my team members their opinions or ask them to take initiatives. In case, if I am
the person to take the actions, I need to ask them for their contributions to finish the task.
I like to give more preference to quality rather than quantity in order to get fruitful results, and it
is very necessary at the workplace. I believe in the slogan, "Practice does not make perfect.

these days. This nature is very useful to work together as a team, as it helps me to make plans on
the basis of best quality works. It makes sure that a better success rate in the group is maintained

Preferring quality to quantity will help to increase the reputation of my organization and loyalty
of the products to keep my company in the long run.
I also realized that it is vital to know the cultures and traditions of different people in the
workplace to get rid of any misunderstandings. I would love to travel to several nations to know
their customs, habits and meet new people. According to my opinion, I feel it is necessary to
have global citizenship for my personal growth in my career. I have learned that different
personalities at the workplace could make a contribution to the high-functioning place of work,

which makes all the staffs feel that they are valued for their individual talents and capabilities
and. As a manager, my job is to make sure that I develop such a culture in my workplace where
each staff can work effectively. Working with various personalities can be challenging for me,
but it also could be helpful by creating balance (Evans-Lacko and Knapp, 2016). Learning to
appreciate distinct personalities at my workplace could build a positive working atmosphere with
fewer misunderstandings (Finkelstein, King, and Voyles, 2015).
Reflection on Difficult Conversations and Effective Feedback at Workplace
At the workplaces, many people face difficulty in exchanging the messages that they want others
to understand and comply with them (Rock and Grant, 2016). Due to difficult conversations,
several people end up in confrontations and conflicts (Jug, Jiang and Bean, 2018). When this
takes place, most of the people tend to ignore or forget the issue. A useful feedback can help in
handling the difficult conversations and is a better step for themselves to express their opinions
without any personal intentions (Kamoche et al., 2015). In our daily live, personal or
professional, we face difficulty in conversations, confrontations on one hand conflicts on another
hand. But most of the times, it goes with the best intentions for the benefits of the individual or
the organization.
One incident has taken place between me and one of my senior team members in my workplace.
It is evident that the team member and I have different ways of approaching the tasks. He is a bit
old fashioned in his approach, and I prefer the modern approach to do tasks. There came a
situation when some of our customers had complained about the quality of software products
sold to them. They did not like the idea to pay money for a faulty software product and want to
get replaced by another new product without paying any extra money for it. I took the decision to
meet with my team on this matter for discussing the significance of improving the quality of the
products and finding a solution for the customer.
I decided that I will ask the customers to pay the extra money for the replaced product. But this
senior member of my team opposed it and said that customer might be unhappy if he has to pay
the extra money and that we can lose one loyal customer for our company. As I am a person with
self-regulatory behavior, I do not want to be influenced by others without proper thinking. Next
thing that happened was that the meeting became a place of heated conversation, and we both got
involved in arguments that we forgot the success of our business and engaged in professional

conflict. I realized that I became emotional at the point of connection in our conversation and
forgot about the professional interests. I decided to stop talking about the matter as I became
emotional at that moment, but later I explained the issue and my opinions on the topic to another
senior member of my team and also told him about our difficult conversations. It turned as a
good idea as he was able to convey my views regarding my organization and its developments.
He acted as a mediator between us and solved the issue, and I was able to convey my views to
the senior member, including all the team members of my team. As time went by, I thought over
the matter that I could not always use the other members of my team to act as a mediator when I
have difficult conversations and arguments with any members of my team over any professional
matter. I realized that I have to take my emotions out of my communication and be as objective
as possible to make a smooth conversation. I had to think of an effective method to convey my
opinions and messages to all the members of my team without any confusions. I realized that I
could express my opinions and messages to all my team members through effective feedback.
I came to know that I have to seek permission for providing effective feedback. Even though I
am a manager, I have to start the feedback by stating the team members that I have some
feedback that I want to share with all the members of my team. I have to consider a reasonable
time or ask my team members to select their suitable place and time. Another thing that I need to
consider is the usage of soft entry. I could not jump directly in the feedback but give an
opportunity to the team member to get prepare for a negative feedback. I need to tell the team
member that I have a problematic feedback to share to him or her. One must say if he or she feels
uncomfortable with his or her role in the conversation. Most of the people feel embarrassed to
deliver an effective feedback (Renting et al., 2016).
An effective feedback needs to be simple and straightforward as an effective feedback is to
address the issues of the organizations (Kippist and Duarte, 2015). I have learned that an
effective feedback must be provided to reduce embarrassment for the team members. The
feedback needs to be focused on behaviors such as awkward conversation and on professional
rules and expectations (Kokkonen, Esaiasson and Gilljam, 2015). I am a spiritual person, and I
believe in people with spirituality because they possess a positive mindset and optimistic towards
their goal. I believe that spirituality makes us work-driven, and I feel it is necessary to self-
motivate spiritually towards the work and make happy people around us by respecting their

habits. Due to my positive perspective, this nature will help me to tell my team members that the
feedback will be beneficial for them for changing their behaviors and also for their jobs.
I have gained knowledge that effective feedback at the workplace is exceptionally significant as
it needs effective communication to flourish and become successful. It is also beneficial to
increase the morale of the employees, helps us to learn about ourselves, our weaknesses and
strengths, effects of our actions and our behaviors on others people, motivated to develop our
personality and increase our self-awareness. Feedback is always positive; it can also be negative
(Michel, Newness, and Duniewicz, 2016). Negative feedbacks highlights the areas of
improvement and helps to better our work in the long run. As a manager, it is essential for me to
provide the feedbacks effectively and skillfully or else it will be of no use for development.
Feedbacks must always be concise, clear, and focused as well as to be useful (Ramani et al.,
2018).
If I need to provide negative feedback for any tasks, then I need to begin initially with positive
points of the employee. As an individual, we are affected by criticisms more than the
compliments. So, framing criticism positively can have less possibility for the staffs to take it
more personally (Reddy et al., 2015). As for example, instead of telling, "Your task is not written
up to the mark with our organization voice.” I said, “I really like your approach in this task. I
have found some instances where your writing is not up to the mark with our organization voice,
so can you please reconsider it again.” I am a spiritual person and my positive mindset and
optimistic towards my goal. My spiritual nature and positivity helped me to deliver effective
feedback to my team members. Another example of effective feedback is “Well done! You have
spoken in front of everybody. Next time you can try to look up more than looking at the paper.”
Conclusion
The reflection analyzed two organizational behavior experienced in the workplace; working with
different personalities and difficult conversations and effective feedback. The main concept was
to combine the topic and knowledge I have gained throughout the semester with self-awareness
activities in the workplace. It reflected on the ideas of two organizational behavior that can be
helpful for me to become a successful businessperson. It can be useful for me to become self-
conscious on my capability in my workplace through my learning of working with different
personalities and difficult conversations and effective feedback.
