workplace engagement. Employee Relations, 38(3), pp.332-350.
Summary of the resource
This study describes regarding the relationship between fun in workplace and
engagement of employees in the workplace. The concept of workplace fun tends to seem
straightforward, positive as well as simple. Workplace fun is definitely a good idea in some
aspects. According to various researches, it has been fund that 88 percent of employees aspire to
be a part of a working environment that includes fun in their workplace (Plester and Hutchison
2016). The main question that arises in this concept is that weather workplace fun tends to make
employees less or more efficient. The answer to it depends on type of workplace and the ages of
employees working in it.
According to employees belonging to young generation, fun at workplace provides higher
job satisfaction because working for continuously 8 hours every day makes them tired and
irritated. Refreshment is an important factor for them as a result, they prefer being involved in a
fun environment. A fun environment makes an employee happy and helps them in being more
productive. In some cases the concept might turn to be false (Goldratt and Cox 2016). Suppose,
workers involved in the hospitality industry, fun improves the retention among employees but it
reduces their productivity. In some cases, having a fun environment, is not always appropriate
and sometimes does not jive into the work style of employees. The fun environment usually
tends to make younger employees efficient in their work, but for older employees fun might be a

forceful and the least appealing activity. Even for the young employees, they should know how
to balance their performance along with having fun in workplace.
Relevance of the resource to the presentation topic
The resource is relevant to the presentation topic because, it discusses regarding the fact
that fun in workplace is an important aspect which should be included in organizations, this is
because, according to various studies if employees have fun, they tend to work harder as well as
stay more loyal and honest to the organization (Allen 2016). They also maintain exposure during
a crisis and provide proper care of that particular organization. Having fun at a workplace
provides numerous benefits like increased productivity, enhances the loyalty of employees and
helps in building camaraderie. Along with these, having fun at work also reminds people
regarding their value towards the manager, the organization as well as towards each other.
One more important benefit of having fun at workplace includes interested candidates to
work in the organization. It adds up to the positive points of the organization, employees usually
prefer being in an organization which has a friendly environment and involves fun activities
along with their working environment. Fun environment has proved to provide a positive
environment in the workplace (Pounders, Kowalczyk and Stowers 2016). The aim of fun
environment is not to provide great carries to the employees but to fuel great lives but having fun
in a team can provide both. Team building is one more benefit provided by fun environment.
When people have fun along with their co- workers, teamwork tends to improve.
