Introduction
Organizational behaviour or OB is mainly related to the study related to the behaviour
of the employees within the organizations. The three main levels based on which
organizational behaviour can be analysed are, individuals within the organizations (micro-
level), work groups (meso-level) and the way by which the organizations behave (macro-
level). Organizational behaviour is related to the study of the individuals as well as the group
of people within the organizations. The area is related to the study of organizational
behaviour within the work environment and the ways of determining the impact of this
behaviour on the structure of the job (Barry and Wilkinson 2016).
The case study that is taken into consideration is based on the tour guide organization
named Resortz. The business of this organization is mainly season-based and the employees
are also hired accordingly. The guides who are employed by this organization need to work
for long hours and they mainly do not have any social life outside work. The employees give
company to each other and support them when they are out for tours. The employees are
hired in this industry based on the reviews that are provided by their past organizations. This
issue compels them to work properly in their present organizations so that they are hired
easily by the other organizations based on the recommendations that are provided (Ranjan
2017).
The main character in the case study is John Maks who has been working in this field
for quite a long time. The other major character in this case study is Anna who also has many
years of experience in this field. Anna used to provide guidance to John when he was new,
however, the scene began to change as he spent time in the organization. Anna was an
annoying character and was not liked by many in the organization. However, she was quite
good at her work and the tourists also liked her. This became the major reason for the

management of the organization to not take any steps against her (Chmiel, Fraccaroli and
Sverke 2017).
Analysis of influence, conflict and power and link with John and Anna
Power - Power has five different types related to the behaviour of individuals in the
organization which include, legitimate power, expert power, referent power, coercive power,
reward power. The two types of power that underpin the behaviour of John and Anna in the
case study are expert power and coercive power. Expert power is related to the level of
knowledge of the person who is exerting this power on the employees. Anna has taken
advantage of the experience and knowledge that she has gained over the years, thereby
suppressing any action that can be taken against her. Coercive power is related to the ability
of the person to influence the decisions of others with the help of punishments and threats. In
this case, Anna has been using her popularity that she enjoys amongst the customers to stop
the management from taking any actions (Qureshi 2017).
Influence – The different types of influence related tactics that can be used by the
individuals are assertiveness, centrality, coalition formation and information control. The
influence tactics that have been used by Anna in this case are, centrality and assertiveness.
Anna has been forcing her decisions and actions on the other tour guides by entering in the
middle of their tours. This has been done with the help of the position that she holds in the
organization and due to distance that is maintained by the other employees. Assertiveness
tactics is implemented by threatening the employees and the management so that they do not
act against her.
Conflict – Conflict is another major factor that is related to the behaviour of John and
Anna in the organization. There are four different types of conflict that are related to any
organization which are, interpersonal conflict, intrapersonal conflict, intergroup conflict,

intragroup conflict. The type of conflict which are depicted in the behaviour of Anna and
John are is intragroup conflict, which is mainly related to the conflict between the team
members and the incompatibilities (Cameron and Green 2015). These can further lead to
misunderstandings and disagreements between the members. In this case, the conflict was
between John and Anna who are the members of the same team.
Effect of individual behaviour, values and personality on Anna and John’s actions
The individual behaviour of John and Anna influences the ways by which they behave
in the organization. John is a social media savvy person and he expresses his feelings with the
help of his Facebook page. He does not have an authoritative position in the organization,
however, he gets a sense of authority when he posts on his Facebook page. Anna is also
present in the same Facebook page and the way by which John had expressed his feelings
was quite annoying for her as well.
The values of the two people in question are also important for the way they in the
organizational setting. The individual values and personalities affect the behaviour John and
Anna and the ways by which they deal with the situation (van Knippenberg, van Prooijen and
Sleebos 2015).
Effect of social media on the organizations related to the concept of perception
Perception is also a major factor that transforms the stimuli of the senses to
information that holds some meaning. The process of the interpretation of the things that are
heard and seen within the mind can be called perception. The six different types of perception
that can affect the behaviour of different people are, perception of sound, touch, of speech,
taste, of social world and the other senses. The perception of John and Anna regarding the
posts on the Facebook page of John are important to influence their behaviour (Temminck,
Mearns and Fruhen 2015).

The usage of social media by the employees of the organization affects the way by
which the employees perceive the organization. Sometimes the usage of social media and the
effects caused by this usage are not controllable by the organization. This affects the
operations of the organization and the behaviour of the employees as well. In this case, the
relationship between John and Anna and the displeasure of John regarding the behaviour of
Anna affects the way by which John expresses his feelings and vents out in his Facebook
page with the help of the posts (Ramdhani, Ramdhani and Ainisyifa 2017).
Conclusion
The report can be concluded with the learning that the different factors related to
power, conflict and influence affects the behaviour of the employees in the organization. The
other factors that affect the behaviour of the employees are the personal values, individual
behaviour and the personality. The perception of the employees and their relationship affect
the way they behave with the other employees and the usage of social media as well.
