This personal journal is focused to assist students in developing their roles in change
management as well as organisational learning building based on their organisational
experiences.
Chapter 3
This chapter of the chosen book ‘The fifth discipline’ is about the core disciplines in
the context of building the learning organization (Senge, 2004). As per my knowledge, the
chapter has covered four major topics of organizational learning include mental models,
personal mastery, shared vision, and team learning. The reading was thought-provoking to
me as it has described the personal mystery as a spirit of the learning organization of this era.
Another reason for selecting this reading is that by learning mental models I learned why the
best ideas fail in modern era of technology (Senge, 2004). From the student’s experience
perspective, I have learned that shared vision can be applied to current as well as past
organizational situations being a common caring methodology. In whole, this reading made
me learn about integration of biblical as well as ethical values in the context of organizational
learning and change management (Senge, 2004).
Chapter 4
The chapter 4th of the book is focused on prototypes in the context of organizational
learning (Senge, 2004). This reading seemed though-provoking to me because it was
comprised interesting topics like localness, openness, a manager’s time, the leader’s new
York and many more, which are essential to be learned while working in an international
organization efficiently. In my experience, the lesson from the reading is applicable or can be
applied to a current or previous organizational situation. For instance, I learned that openness
can easily narrate how the internal politics of an organization can be transcended which
dominates traditional firms of the world (Senge, 2004).
In a nutshell, I can now say that the purpose of this assessment of enhancing the
understanding and application of organisational learning within the organisational context has
been fulfilled successfully.
