INTRODUCTION
Business management may be defined as the process of organizing and coordinating the
activities of a business with a purpose to achieve goals and objectives of an organization
(Hammer, 2015). This report is based up on the case study which is based on Barnacle Bay
Country hotel, which is facing some management problems in operating the business and the
hotel wants to bring a change in order to improve its business processes to gain profitability and
smooth functioning of business.

Challenges faced by Rita are as follows:
Rita is facing staffing issues in her hotel
To increase the standards of cleanliness in hotel
To attract more and more customers to achieve profits
To reduce employee absenteeism during peak periods
To formulate a strategy of implementing cultural change.
Rita can overcome these challenges by properly managing and implementing
proper business strategies in the hotel. Rita can bring changes in the hotel and formulate proper
strategies and leadership style to implement the changes in an organization. Rita needs to
motivate her staff members for accepting the change that will be implemented in the hotel. Rita
has to improve the overall quality of food and services of her hotel to attract customers (Maylor,
Blackmon and Huemann, 2016). Also Rita should provide proper training and developmental
programs to the staff members in order to make the change effective so that these challenges can
be minimized.

Following are the challenges that Rita has to face while implementing the cultural

Rita should adopt Transformational leadership style while implementing cultural change
in the hotel. By adopting this leadership style, Rita would be able to motivate and inspire her
staff members towards the common goal. As it is the goal of Rita to bring the change in the
culture of the hotel. As this leadership style focuses on the change so this leadership style will be
helpful for Rita in implementing the change. Rita should start working on changing the system of
the hotel and should solve the challenges by finding and eradicating the old patterns which do
not work. Should identify what needs to be changed and motivate her staff members and
maximizing their team capabilities and skills. Rita should implement the cultural change step by
step and needs to minimize the variations while implementing the cultural change and nee to
create a supportive environment by sharing the responsibilities among the staff members.
Plan
Rita is planning to implement the cultural change within the hotel in order to improve the
efficiency of the hotel (Uhl and Gollenia, 2016). Rita can implement cultural change in the hotel
by using Lewin's model of change. This model consists of three stage such as Unfreezing,
Changing and Refreezing.
Unfreezing: At this stage Rita should inform the staff about the change to be implemented in the
hotel so that staff member will get of the change and will increase the current level of
acceptability which may hinder the change process in future. Rita need to examine the old
behaviour which will show what are the necessary changes to be brought in the hotel. This will
help in implementing the change in the hotel.
