Introduction
Organizational development basically defined as an objective-based methodology that is
used to initiate a change of systems within an entity. Thus, the current assignment is based
on three organisation selected one from one Charity/Non-Profit organisation (Save the
children), one from Global Business Operation (Bentley) and at last one from Local
Government Authority (Coventry City Council of England). This assignment consists a
description of brief background of each company along with its internal and external
analysis.
Brief background of the company
For current assignment three organisation are selected one from one Charity/Non-Profit
organisation, one from Global Business Operation and at last one from Local Government
Authority a brief description of which is provided below:
Save the children- It is basically a charity or non-profit organisation that was established
in UK in 1919.
The main aim of Save the children is improving the lives of children around the globe
through providing better education opportunity, health care facility, and other economic
opportunities to the children.
The goal of Save the children organisation is also involved in providing emergency aid
and shelters to children who are suffering because of any natural disasters, war or other
national or international conflicts.
The mission and vision of The Save the Children organisation is to change the lives of
children across the world through helping deprived one and yielding access to quality
education and life saving healthcare, and protection from harm and abuse.
Bentley Motors Ltd- It is a well known British manufacturer and marketer of luxury cars
and SUVs which had been a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group since 1998 and is a
leading premium car brands in the world having its headquarter in England UK.
Bentley is an international organisation which is having global business operations which
includes various location of world including various region of UK, Asia and other regions.
The main aim and goal of Bentley is to provide luxury cars that are up to the needs and
demands of customers to ensure their huge demand and productivity.
The mission of this organisation is to enhance its profit and productivity thus, Bentley
also makes changes in the design of its cars such as sedan, coupe convertible according to
the consumers need which is the main reason that makes Bentley a luxurious car brand the
product of which are enough to be more fascinated by the users.
Coventry City Council of England- It is the local government body of England, UK
which is responsible and having a goal to ensure complete and better the governance of
the City of Coventry in England, which was being a metropolitan district since 1974.
The main aim of Coventry City Council of England is to reduce health and wellbeing
inequalities at its district through sport and also includes raising awareness of health
issues.
The main focus of Coventry City Council of England is to turn up and help groups and
individuals to develop a more healthy and age-friendly city.
Internal Analysis of the company
The internal analysis mainly consists of the factors that are preset within the organisation
and have significant affect on its performance and operations of the organisation. The
internatl analysis of selected organisations is provide below:
Save the children
It is a global organisation that was founded in 1919 and till now it has more than 16000
employees working in around 120 countries of world. The work of serving children and
meeting their health, education and safety is quite a tough task thus, well skilled and
incredibly dedicated employees are appointed and recruited by this organisation.
It is an international organisation thus, its internal working of this organisation is quite
complex thus, to maintain effective communication and balance among all the activities
this organisation makes use of divisional organisational structure where all the work is
bifurcated on the basis of division i.e. health, education and safety to ensure complete and
proper welfare of children and meet its objectives through effective balance without any
chaos and confusion.
Further, this organisation also give priority to ethical consideration and ensure use of only
eco-friendly substances and services to protect environment.
Coventry City Council of England
It is basically a local organisation that is controlled by government individuals. The head
and members of Coventry city of council are hired or elected through voting as per the
first past the post method in third of council elected three years out of four.
Being a local a local government body it is having limited scope and geographical area to
operate with limited number of employees to have effective governance of district thus,
flat organisation structure is used by this local body to ensure effective communication in
minimum time among its employees internally.
Further, being a local government economy all the ethical considerations and steps to
protect environment and health of citizens is also taken by Coventry City Council of
England.
Bentley Motors Ltd
It is an international luxury brand of cars thus, it become essential, for this organisation to
employ highly skilled and talented employees who are having all required technical skills
to design and manufacture a superior quality and more innovative cars to attract larger
number of customers.
Further, being an international organisation and a manufacturing company, use of
functional organisational structure is made by Bentley organisation as it ensures proper
bifurcation as per various functions and lead an effective internal communication channels
among employees.
Beside this, proper care is taken by Bentley to reduce carbon emission and harm to
environment to meet and fulfil its ethical responsibility.
External Environment Analysis
nUse of PESTEL analysis is made evaluate the external environment of an organisation that
facilitates better analysis of political, social, environmental, technological, and economical and
legal factors. The external analysis of the entire three selected organisation with the help of
PESTEL analysis is provided below:
Coventry City Council of England
It is a local government body thus, it is benefited by stability of political environment and does
not face much political issues.
It forms a crucial part of economy as it responsible for governance of a metropolitan city and
maintains its growth and development.
Further, social factor for this organisation is also positive as it works to organise and give
society in a better way and make efforts to reduce health and wellbeing inequalities.
Further, use of technology also leads to enhancement in efficiency and viability.
Beside this, all the environment and legal acts are fully complied by this organisation to
maintain its smooth functioning and lead to suitable development.

Being a charitable institute this organisation get considerable support from political parties but
still faces some political conflicts in Asian courtiers and other locations that impose constraints
on its charity programmes.
Save the children plays crucial role in supporting economy through creating a balance in it
through providing resources to deprived sector of economy thus, lead to balance in economy
sector and also create employment for volunteers.
The social environment of UK and other country support this charitable institute through
making donations to meet its expenses.
Improvement in technology is helpful for this organisation as it enhanced its reach at global
level and also improve communication with deprived section of society to fulfil their needs.
The legal and environmental laws of various nation creates some issues for save the children as
it need to make changes in its policies and strategies as per the legal acts of a nation.
Bentley Motors Ltd
Its main operations are in UK thus, get many opportunities and stable political environment
due to stability in politics of UK but the resent Brexit issues has lead to many issues and threat
for this organisation.
Further, the stable economy of UK is also advantages for Bentley to earn higher returns and
have better sales but high competition prevailing in automotive sector is a big threat for
Bentley company.
Apart from this, the society of UK is also found of and like luxurious cars that is helpful to
enhance its sale and productivity but is quite challenging for this organisation to meet dynamic
expectation of customers.
The development of technology has enhanced the superiority and features of its cars and also
leads to online facility for customers.
Further, Bentley is also looking to come up with more number of electric vehicles to protect
environment and all legal aspects of UK and other nations are also meet by this organisation.
Impact of External environment
The external environment of all the three organisations (Save the children, Coventry
City Council of England and Bentley) creates a significant impact on its internal
business operations thus, regular modification and strategy formulation are required to
keep coordination with external factors. Thus, use of various leadership styles is made
by leaders and managers to motivate and direct its employees to cope with the
dynamic nature of external environment, a description of which is provided below:
Contingency theory leadership- this theory states that the effectiveness of a leader is
directly contingent and dependent upon how the leadership style adopted by leader is
matches with the current situation and prevailing circumstances. Thus, the leader must
evaluate that what kind of leadership style would be most appropriate to motivate and
direct employees to meet and overcome current situation and issue in a more effective
way.
Situational leadership theory- this theory sates that a single leadership style cannot be
good for all situation thus a leaders must adopt different leadership styles according to
the situation that is appropriate as per the prevailing situation to have better
development level of their team members. It is an effective way of leadership that is
used by the entire organisation because it helps in adapting leadership and motivation
style as per the needs of team thus, sets a beneficial balance for the whole organization
to achieve set targets and gaols in an effective way.
