This briefing paper provides a comprehensive overview of organizational development (OD). It begins with a definition, historical context, and key features of OD, followed by an exploration of its purposes in contemporary organizations, such as achieving organizational strategy, supporting change, and advising on restructuring. The paper then evaluates various OD models, including the Action Research Model, ADKAR model, and Kurt Lewin's Change Model, along with their associated tools and techniques, and justifies the selection of Kurt Lewin's model for restructuring a small to medium enterprise (SME). Furthermore, the report examines the relationship between organizational development and the Learning and Development (L&D) function, highlighting how they can collaborate to achieve common goals. Finally, the paper analyzes different roles in organizational development and includes a role description for an OD business partner in the annexure, outlining the required knowledge and skills for the position.
