MANAGEMENT
Introduction
As an organisational behaviour consultant, I have found that power and politics are
major factors that are associated with the generation of stress, conflicts and
misunderstandings between the members of the organisation (tesla.com, 2019). Due to this,
there is need for change management and to make the right decisions along with undertaking
the right approaches to ensure smooth business functioning.
Organizational overview
The organisation chosen here is Tesla in United States, which has been a major
American automotive and energy company that has managed to accelerate the transition of
the world to sustainable energy with the introduction of good quality electric cars and through
delivery of renewable energy based solutions for homes and businesses (tesla.com, 2019).
Organisational behaviour health
As the OB consultant of Tesla US, I believe that from the perspectives of power and
politics, the authority and influence over others are based on the managerial or leadership
skills. The managers and leaders are associated with the management of direction and by
delegating tasks to the employees, furthermore acquire their ideas, views and opinions
required to encourage decision making and also allow the employees to perform to their
potential. Power do have both positive as well as negative effects, such as the manager has
the authority and power to guide the employees and provide them rewards while pressurizing
the employees and bullying subordinates could be the negative effects of power (Wood et al.,
2013). The politics, in terms of organisational behaviours, are associated with the
management of power to control the communication and develop social networks for
introducing as well as manage acceptance of changes to serve personal interests. The
conflicts emerge due to different in ideas, opinions and responses, which could create

stressful situations and harm the organisational behaviour, thus leading to poor workforce
efficiency at Tesla, US (Mahembe & Engelbrecht, 2016).
The issues mainly could be conflicts and misunderstandings among the team members
of the organisation, which should lead to inappropriate working environment and lack of an
appropriate corporate culture that might also hinder the business functioning. This could also
lead to stressful situations and create complexities within the workplace, furthermore create a
negative corporate culture, which could also affect the business functioning. The leader or
manager of the organisation, holding power and authority to manage the workforce, should
aim at keeping the employees motivated and ensure management of communication to
facilitate teamwork and coordination at work as well. Therefore, power and politics have both
positive effects as well as negative effects but it could also be dealt with by joining a
coalition or by whistleblowing, which could make the issues emerge into the limelight and
create better scopes for resolving those easily (Lane & Ersson, 2016). With the management
of good communication there would be better collaboration between the employees and team
working capability, required to bring improvements to the micro culture of the organisation.
