Introduction
The report is focused towards analyzing and assessing the essential qualities that are
required to be an effective present day leader. Concerning organizational standards the
perspectives of leadership has changed greatly over the last few decades. The rising competition
in the corporate markets across the globe has made leadership a more challenging task than ever
before. The analysis of various styles and types of modern day leadership is essentially done in
the study to evaluate the significance of various kinds of organizational leaderships. Imagining
the self as the leader can help individuals to develop significant directive values towards being
effective future leaders.
Leadership: Current Concepts
Modern leadership is quite different from the perceived previous leadership concepts that
existed previously. Leadership in the current corporate scenario is considered to be essential
towards establishing balance between the management and the operations of an organization
(Arena and Uhl-Bien 2016). The leadership aspects that are now mostly searched in leaders are
self-confidence, conscientiousness, enthusiastic outlook, boldness and competitiveness. The
current theories on leadership focus on transformational or motivation based leadership,
transactional, role based leadership, situational or real-time requirement based leadership and the
blend of these leadership concepts as and when required (McCleskey 2014). Thus, modern
leadership concepts are based on the functions of sustainable productivity that leaders can ensure
for the organization.

Leadership Types
Various leadership styles are used in the present corporate environments across
organizations.
Transformational- This specific leadership style is focused towards motivating the teams or
subordinates towards performing better (Nanjundeswaraswamy and Swamy 2014). Effective
communicational requirements are essential for transformational leadership as the same helps
towards motivating individuals.
Transactional- The leadership trait is essentially based on rewards and recognition in order to
motivate employees towards providing better productive outcomes. However, bad performances
of employees are punished through feedback or other necessary actions (Anderson and Sun
2017). The style is mainly used for goal achievements in the short term.
Servant- This type of modern leadership focuses on the equal unanimous participation of the
entire team in the decision-making functions (Saleem 2015). The team leader is the servant
leader and essentially treats himself as a part of the team and there is no distinct authority.
Charismatic- This leadership function is similar to the transformational leadership. However, in
this leadership the charm or the charismatic personality of the leader is predominantly required
always in order to enhance productivity (Din et al. 2014).
Leadership style comparison
Facebook head Mark Zuckerberg is known to show characteristics of a transformational
leader. Thus, he is mostly seen to be motivating the employees of Facebook through various
meetings and conferences. He also shows characteristics of democratic leadership as he invites
suggestions across all levels of the employees of his organization. He focuses on hard working
productive employees and encourages his employees to be self-motivated (Moriano et al. 2014).

Compared to Zuckerberg, Amazon chief Jeff Bezos shows a more charismatic leadership trait.
Jeff Bezos is known to use his charismatic personality to motivate the employees of his
organization. He focuses on cultivating risk-taking attitudes among his employees. Jeff Bezos is
more concerned with having a great development vision for Amazon (Nguyen et al. 2017).
Rather than motivating his employees to work hard he is seen to be more focused towards
working smart to achieve the much important goals and objectives (Moriano et al. 2014). At
times, he is very directive and provides specific work directions to his subordinates.
Personal Reflections on Leadership
According to me, leadership is the most important aspect of an organization. This is
because the essential survival mechanism of organizations depend of how ready its leadership is
for facing crucial challenges. I have studied various business leaders across the world and
understood that for being an effective leader communication is a much-required aspect. Without
effective communication, the leader will not be able to make the ideas, goals, objectives and the
progress path of the organization clear to his/her subordinates.
In order to be an effective leader I will need to work towards optimizing my
communication aspects. I want to be a transformational, charismatic and democratic leader. In
order to achieve this I need to make sure that I am maintaining effective communication levels
with my subordinates. I would like my associates, subordinates and peers to treat me as a reliable
person with whom they can easily share their grievances and in return get solutions to all their
problems. I would like to become an inspirational leader.
To be an effective leader I will first need to improve my world outlook. I will need to
focus on myself in order to get a notion of my position in the world. Moving forward, I will
have to put this notion in the context of the organization. Now I will need to do a thorough self-

assessment. I will need to understand my strengths and weaknesses and the opportunities that lie
before me as well as the threats. I need to weigh the possibilities of improving my strengths and
become a strong manager. I will then need to systematically improve myself through taking
gradual leaps from lower leadership roles to higher levels of leadership. I need to explore all the
levels of leadership in order to gain much needed experience towards being an effective leader.
As mentioned earlier my leadership style will be transformational as I want to motivate people so
that both me and them can grow in our roles at the same time. My ethics will be dependent on
equal treatment, opportunities, responsibilities and respect for all. I will motivate people by
engaging with them and always be there with them when most required. Moreover, I will give
them many opportunities for improving themselves. My goals will be to attain expertise in lower
level leadership and later systematically move on to higher managerial levels. As far as my
personal needs are concerned, I need to be a more matured, responsible and visionary person. My
professional developmental needs will be to become a more situationally adaptable person with
increased levels of skills and a highly rational outlook towards productivity. All these vital
aspects will guide me towards being a better manager.
Conclusion
It can be said that in the present corporate context, leadership has become a more flexible
concept. The traditional image of the leader as the person giving out orders is completely
obsolete. Being an effective leader in today’s corporate world requires higher levels of skills and
expertise. Hence, it can be see that the biggest leaders in the corporate world are multi-talented,
efficient and charismatic personalities. As time progresses, leaders are bound, to take bigger
responsibilities than what they have ever taken previously in the corporate world.
