Introduction
The report aims at providing at insight into the aspects of diversity at the Royal Bank of
Canada commonly known as RBC bank. The Royal Bank of Canada represents a global financial
service firm and one of leading Canadian Banks in terms of the market capitalization (rbc.com,
2020). The bank has been found to serve close to 16 million customers and has close to 80,000
employees.
Diversity in RBC Bank
In present times, diversity goes beyond the recognition and appreciation of the
differences in ethnicity, culture, gender, sexual orientation and age. RBC believes that growth
and diversity remains integrated and inseparable. Hence, it embraces diversity for growth and
innovation (rbc.com, 2020). For RBC, diversity has long served as the gateway not only to the
world but in determining success. In addition to this RBC also believes that at the time of
opportunities and challenges there is a rising need for throwing light on inclusion and diversity.
The vision of diversity and inclusion for RBC lies in being one of the most successful and
inclusive workplace that puts diversity in action for helping the employees, communities and the
clients in thriving.
Explanation of Diversity:
Diversity refers to the acceptance and understanding of fact that the people possess
individual characteristics that make them distinct especially when the comparison of individuals
takes place within a group (Barak, 2016). Such characteristics might vary from race, gender,
ethnicity, political ideologies, religion, age, sexual orientation, socio economic status and

an organization. Thus, diversity within workplace encompass people belonging to varying race,
age, religion, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, cultural background, education,
abilities and language. There are various benefits of a diverse workforce. These are mentioned as
follows:
Employees from the diverse background saturates the organization with newer
perspectives and ideas primarily based on the cultural experiences.
Diverse workforce will enable the organization in better understanding the target
demographics and the things that move them
Diverse workforce is able to better align the culture of the organization with demographic
makeup of the United States
It also results in enhanced level of customer satisfaction through improving the ways in
which the employees interact in an increasingly diverse public.
Description of the Elements of Diversity Considered with respect to RBC
RBC has identified itself with the core elements of diversity which includes age,
ethnicity, expression, gender identity, intellectual difference, immigration status, race, sex,
religion, race and the national origin. RBC, one of the largest bank of the country set an example
to the world by hiring a woman stenographer in the year 1902. In present times, the bank
consider the aspect of diversity quite seriously and undertakes necessary steps in quantifying its
goal. For instance, when the bank chooses candidates for the management jobs then it targets
towards having a woman or a minority on its list. RBC makes sure that at executive level, at least
one of the staffs needed to be woman and an individual from some visible minority group. The
bank with close to 52, 500 employees has also set up mentorship program, cross cultural training

program and creates resource group for employees (rbc.com, 2020). The bank has also been
found to work with nonprofit agencies for hiring newcomers.
Thus, the percentage of the aboriginal people employed in RBC rose from 1.1 percent to 1.6
percent whereas the percentage of employed disabled people increased by 3.8 percent from close
to 2.9 percent. One of the most notable factors has been the increase in the visible minorities
which rose from 12 percent to 26 percent.
Conclusion:
On a concluding note, it can be said that diversity plays a very important role in today’s
workplace. For, RBC, inclusion and diversity acts as their strength since it represent one of the
means through which the bank helps the community to prosper.
