1. The Analysis
What’s
going on?
This company has undertaken a significant responsibility for making the software
for their client. They have decided to name this project as Willis project. The senior
developer of this project is and the manager of this project is Greg. Greg has
summoned Jason for taking a proper follow up of their Willis project (Scenario 1:
Overseas Codeshop, 2018). Since Jason is creating the software, Greg is asking
him as he is worried regarding the product quality and longevity. Jason has
decided to create three separate software versions and has decided to send three
versions to overseas for code testing.
A new project known as the Willis project is to be made by the company for
delivering it to their client. Greg is appointed as the project manager, while Jason is
appointed as the senior software developer. Greg has called the senior developer
to take an overall follow up of their product (Durkheim, 2013). Jason has
mentioned that he is making three versions and is sending their product to
overseas for the purpose of coding. Greg is telling that he is worried as he thinks
that this would affect the stability and the flexibility of the product. In reply to this,
the senior developer is saying that this will not at all affect the stability and quality
of the project and it will not crash.
What are the
facts?
Greg has called the senior developer, Jason for asking about how the Willis project
is going on and when this would be delivered to the client. Jason replies that the
project is going greatly and is expected to become a major success in future. He
even mentions the fact the software would be having three separate versions and
they would be tested in overseas (Peters, 2015). The project manager says that he
is extremely worried about the product stability and quality as he thinks that making
of three versions would result in crashing of the entire software.
What are the
issues?
Who is
affected?
The most significant issue in this case study is that Greg is worried regarding the
product quality and stability and he is also getting tensed as Jason would be
making three versions of the software (Trevino & Nelson, 2016). He is in utter
dilemma that whether he has taken the correct decision by involving Jason in the
product or not. Jason, on the other hand, is extremely confident about his product
and thinks that it would be a great project. Greg then calls up the CEO of the
company suggesting to remove Jason from the project.
Two people are affected in the case study of “Overseas Codeshop”. The first
person is the client, who shall not get a good product as there is dilemma and
confusion amongst the team members (Niebuhr, 2013). The second affected
person is Jason as he has worked really hard for the project and he is being
removed from the team due to confusion.

What is the
ethical issue?
What are the
implications of
the ethical
issue?
The one and only ethical issue in “Overseas Codeshop” is that Greg is worried for
the product quality in the Willis project. The motive of Greg is very simple
(Noddings, 2013). He only wants the client to get good software so that the
goodwill of the company is not at stake. Thus, he wants to replace Jason with a
new team for this Willis project as he is tensed that the software may crash.
The significant implication of the ethical issue of Greg replacing Jason with a brand
new project team for the Willis project is that the project would be delayed by few
months from deadline (Crane & Matten, 2016). The new team has to understand
the entire project again and then will have to make it according to Greg. This would
incur more time and thus the deadline would be missed. However, Greg would be
satisfied with project.

What can be
done about it? For solving the ethical issue or ethical dilemma of the above mentioned scenario of
“Overseas Codeshop”, the project manager, Greg and the CEO should make
Jason, the senior developer understand the importance of the project before
terminating him (Ciulla, 2014). If they will make him understand that he should
make one version instead of three, it is obvious that he would understand and
would not lose his project. Moreover, the team work would be bringing major
success in the project.
What are the
options?
As per the ethical issue or the ethical dilemma in the scenario of “Overseas
Codeshop”, three broad options are available. Any one of these options would be
applicable for the situation (Peters, 2015). The first option is that the project
manager making the senior developer understands to make one version only. The
second option is that Jason is replaced from the project and the third option is that
the project manager trusting on the senior developer and instructs him to proceed
with his idea.

Which option
is best?
Why the
above option
is the best?
The option which determines that Greg should make Jason understand that he
should make one version only and not three is the most applicable in the scenario
of “Overseas Codeshop” (Ciulla, 2014). This is first option amongst the three and
it would be considered as the best.
The first option is considered as the best and the most applicable in the situation.
Jason, the senior developer has taken the decision to make three versions of
software and would be sending them overseas for testing. The project manager,
Greg is worried as he thinks that this would crash the software (Trevino & Nelson,
2016). The first option is the best option as Greg should make Jason understand
that making three versions would solely affect the stability and quality of the
software and the software also can crash. The team work would be good for the
software and end result will be excellent. Moreover, the client would be extremely
happy with the software and would again contact the organization for other
projects.
