Research background
Employee management is one of the most important concept which is essential to adopt
every organization. This is because employee are considered as one of the biggest asset of the
organization. The reason being is that they are the executives and helps in boosting the
performance and productivity of the firm. Therefore, it is important to make sure that they are
well satisfied with the job and must have the willingness to contribute their skills and talents
along with the knowledge and experience towards the growth and expansion of the firm.
Organization chosen for the current research is the Premier Inn London Heathrow Airport
Terminal 4 hotel within the hospitality industry. The current research is based on the impact of
covid 19 on the employee willingness within hospitality industry. Employee willingness is

crucial for the firm because it helps in retaining the best talented workers who provides

Research rationale
I have undertaken the current research which is based on the impact of pandemic
outbreak on employees’ willingness within the hospitality industry of UK. This topic has a great
importance of not only for the organization but also for the investigator as well. Organization is
benefited because they can be aware of the current status of the hospitality firms in UK at the
time of Covid 19. They can also be known about the challenges faced by hospitality industry
during the period of Covid 19 and the ways used by organizations for overcoming the challenges
of Covid 19 on their employee’s willingness. They can analyse the data and practice accordingly
within their own companies. Moreover, I have used my some of the existing skills while
undertaking this research such as written communication skills and time management skills
along with the cognitive skills and analytical skills. Furthermore, I have also gained some of the
skills from this investigation such as research skills and problem solving behaviour along with
the business management skills.
Research outline
The current research discusses about the fulfilment of the aim and objectives of the
research. It includes the research background which provides the overview about the topic and
rationale tells the importance of the research as well. Literature review covers all the objectives
of the research which is contented by the well known authors and specifying their view points on
the particular topic. Research methodology is covered while specifying the philosophy and
approach along with the choice and strategy and also the time horizon and technique and
procedure or sampling as well. Moreover, analysis is also made about the reason and justification
of chosen research methodology and how the data is represented and in what manner. All such
areas are covered while summarizing and concluding at the end.

As per the view of Jones and Comfort (2020), COVID-19 has brought unfavourable and
unavoidable situations in the hospitality industry which adversely affected its growth. The
pandemic has changed the perception, behaviour and expectations regarding shopping products
and services from the market. The COVID-19 pandemic has confronted the hospitality business
with various new challenges that shape the growth and success of the hospitality industry. With
the surge of COVID-19 in the global economy has a negative impact on the hospitality industry
as government has restricted travelling from one place to another. The restriction on travel is the
major challenge for the hospitality industry has created a problem of low occupancy in the hotel
as people are also scared of staying in the hotel. Health and wellness is another challenge that
hospitality industry needs to consider as customers are now more health and hygiene
consciousness and mostly prefer to stay in hotels that follow proper protocols and sanitization
process. Adopting to new technology is a major challenge that company needs to consider for
increasing its growth and success in the time of pandemic. Adopting to new technology like
moving towards digital technology will helps in gaining more customer base and market share
which results in high growth. Another challenge is low salary and job cut which hospitality
industry faces in the time of pandemic as hotels are not receiving enough profits from the market
has lead to decline in employees morale and salary. This has created a big problem for
employees as they are enable to fulfil their basic needs in the tough pandemic times (Yacoub and
ElHajjar, 2021). Majority of restaurants has to close their place after a certain time period as they
do not have enough money to pay the rent and to carry out the business operations conveniently.
Complete lock-down in the whole economy has forced most of the companies to shift their
process online for continuing their business operations smoothly and effectively.
Impact of pandemic outbreak on employees’ willingness within Premier Inn
As per the view of George (2021), Covid-19 pandemic has made people scared of not
getting infected by the affect of the virus as it is easily transmitted from one person to another.
The effect of pandemic has reduced the willingness of employees to work in Premier Inn as
COVID-19 has created a fear in the minds of people. At the individual level, the government has
announced strict lock-down in the whole economy and this has affected the productivity and

working efficiency of employees as they need to work from their homes to keep the work going
without any problem. The employees of hospitality industry are considered as the front-line
workers which ha to attend all the customers directly in order to provide them better and
effective services which results in improving their satisfaction. With the adverse effect of the
COVID-19 pandemic in the hospitality industry has forced employees to work from home in
order to define their roles and responsibilities in a proper manner. With the impact of COVID-19
outbreak in the economy has accelerated the level of digitalization to reduce in person
interactions which helps in reducing the effect of virus. The employees will now work with
taking into consideration all the safety and hygiene measures so that they gets protected and
work with more efficiency and effectiveness. The employees will feel demotivated while
performing the work in the hotels as they always have the fear of getting infected (Corsi, 2018).
This will effects the productivity and working efficiency of employees in providing services to
the customers in the time of COVID-19 pandemic. Not getting salary on a regular basis creates
tension in he minds of the customer and this puts them in depression as they are not able to focus
upon the work they are doing as they are not getting appropriate amount of money. This impacts
the overall performance of employees which results in decreased growth and success in the time
of COVID-19 pandemic globally.
Ways used by Premier Inn for overcoming the challenges of Covid 19 on their employee’s
willingness
According to Hartman and Nickerson (2020), The hospitality sector has hit hard by the
effect of COVID-19 in the global pandemic which effects the growth and success of many hotels
as customers are not ready to visit the hotels and enjoy the services. Travel restrictions, flying
bans and the forced closure of so many restaurants and bars have created a problem for the
hospitality industry as a whole. There are several ways that Premier Inn use to cope up with the
challenges of COVID-19 pandemic for improving the willingness of employees. The hotel take
care about keeping best safety regulations like putting best sanitization facilities which helps in
building a sense of trust among customers. The hotel also focuses on revising their marketing
strategy that helps in meeting with the changing demands and needs of the customers such as
more health concern, flight restrictions, proper hygiene. Increasing the scope of remote working
so that employees work with full motivation and dedication to improve the performance of the
hotel in order to regain existing and new customers. The hotel can also focus on new market

segments by analysing the needs and wants of the customer for achieving best return on
investment. As the customers are now shifting towards online platforms the hotel is also

There are total three types of research philosophy. One is the positivism and other is
realism and the last is Interpretivism. The current research will use the positivism research
philosophy. The reason being is that the current research is based on the facts and figures in
terms of the practical data analysis. That is why the positivism philosophy is chosen for the
current investigation (Snyder, 2019).
Research approach
There are total three types of research approach. One is the inductive and other is
abduction and the last is deductive. The current research will use the deductive research
approach. The reason being is that the current research is based on the numerics and statistical
data in terms of the scientific information analysis. That is why the deductive approach is chosen
for the current investigation (Rinjit, 2020).
Research choice
There are total three types of research choice. One is the mono method and other is multi
method and the last is mixed method. The current research will use the mono method research
choice. The reason being is that the current research is based on the quantitative type of data
analysis which is in the form of numbers having the accuracy of figures. That is why the mono
method of qualitative data analysis choice is chosen for the current investigation (Cr, 2020).

Research strategy
There are total three types of research strategy. One is the survey and other is experiment
and the last is case study. The current research will use the survey research strategy. The reason
being is that the current research is based questionnaire having the closed ended questions. That
is why the survey strategy is chosen for the current investigation in the form of questionnaire
(Pandey and Pandey, 2021).
Research time horizon
There are total two types of research time horizon. One is the cross sectional and the
other is the longitudinal. The current research will use the cross sectional research time horizon.
The reason being is that the current research is based on the short time duration of research in
terms of single point of time which will accomplish within one week. That is why the cross
sectional time horizon is chosen for the current investigation (Nayak and Singh, 2021).
Research technique and procedure
There are total two types of research technique and procedure. One is the primary and the
other is the secondary type of data collection. The current research will use both the type of
techniques and procedures. The reason being is that the current research is based on the type of
data collection based on the first hand and second hand both. It means direct and indirect manner
of data collection in the form of books and internet along with the surveys and questionnaire
(Mukherjee, 2019).
Research sampling
Random probability sampling is used in the current research in which there will be total
10 managers from the organization who will be responding to the questions in the questionnaire.
Data analysis and interpretation will be done according to the answers received.
Analysis
Analysis undertaken in the current research is based on the quantitative type of data
collection. It demonstrates the results and findings in the form of numerics which will be having
the actual facts and figures in numbers with proper interpretation. Frequency distribution
analysis will be undertaken in which the table will be drawn and frequency will be specified in
front of the each of the question and how many managers have answered what as per their
opinion. This analysis is done with the help of Microsoft excel using the bar graph with the

representation in the graphical manner. There will be separate graphs for each of the questions
and options mentioned in the questionnaire. Then finally the interpretation will be done for each
of the question so that accurate results and findings can be drawn in an effective and efficient
manner (Newman and Gough, 2020).
Summary/Conclusion
It is concluded that employee management is an important concept to learn and study so
that its applications can be applied in the real world organizations. This is because covid 19 has
majorly impacted the hospitality industry and the organizations has suffered a lot due to
pandemic and lock down situations. Therefore, it is essential to examine the challenges and ways
that can have on the hospitality industry because of the covid 19 pandemic. Employee are the
ones who must be taken care of while managing the entire operations and management in the
firm because they are the reasons of boosting the productivity within the firm. The current
research methodology used is appropriate for the current research undertaken because they are
fulfilling the objectives and proper primary data analysis as well. But talking about the
limitations and enhancement then conducting interviews can be more efficient because it is the
face to face procedure which helps in providing the personalised opinions from the respondents.
Further investigation will be improved by modifying the survey strategy.
