PSYCHOLOGY 2
Fuyao a 21 year old lady has been a quiet girl from her early teens, she hardly goes out
with friends or invites any over for dinner or sleep over, her parents were not worried before
and they thought that Fuyao was just an emotionally guarded shy girl, but recently somethings
happened that had them alarmed, she had attacked her neighbor just because her dog had
ruined Fuyao's newly planted flowers, when she was reprimanded she became
defensive, irratable and angry. Her parents also noticed that most of the time she was always
anxious and feared the unknown. They had tried to talk to her but that seemed to push her
deeper into her cocoon. They also noticed that she hardly speaks to people or greet them,a
behaviour that friends and relatives found to be rude and this made them withdraw from
Fuyao. They also warned thier daughters to stay away, claiming that she was a bad influence
and example to them.It was not untill recent that her parents decided to take her to a therapist
that she was diagnosed with Paranoid Personality Disorder (PPD). She is now undergoing
medication and slowly accepting her condition.
Paranoid Personality Disorder is a type of disorder where an individual feels anxious,
fearful, and angry and Express a very high level of mistrust in people. (Mental health letter
Paranoia and paranoid disorder). In most cases an individual suffering from PPD becomes
defensive, isolated, irritable and emotionally guarded, this to them is seen as a way of
protecting themselves from imaginary people who would want to take advantage of them.
Stigmatization has for a very long time now been a present factor in the lives of
individuals living with various disorders this is because the public knowledge concerning the
PPD Disorder is alarmingly Low and they therefore tend to see the behaviour as purposefully
and see the victims as attention seekers (Heinz, 2017). Individuals suffering from PPD are
affected the most because they suffer from Paranoia, intense anxiousness, persistent

suspension and isolation. In extreme cases persons living with PPD have contemplated
suicide because of the isolation and their antisocial nature.
Families of individuals living with PPD are also affected this is because of the anti-social
nature of the individual, his/her anger is quick and mistrust nature that will make friends and
families to withdraw from the individual (Bilge & Palabiyik, 2017). As a knowledgeable
individual with knowledge in PPD it's my personal and ethical responsibility to ensure that
the public is well informed about PPD and other Mental disorders and that they are able to
handle and accept such individuals in the society, i would also encourage the individuals
living with PPD to seek medical attention.
In order for the individuals living with PPD to be able to handle their condition, i
wouldencourage them to accept and embrace their condition and try to be social and engage
with others freely.
