Problem Statement
The specific issue is that parental involvement is a major issue public schools are facing
today (Adamski, Fraser & Peiro, 2013). Academic achievement for elementary students is
stymied by the lack of comprehensive parental involvement programming within the school
(Namok, Mido, Sunha, & Thomas, 2015). Getting parents involved in their children’s education
appears to be a crucial factor for educators and administrators. Parental involvement is the key to
student success (Okele, 2014). The population for the study are the parents. The No Child Left
Behind Act of 2001 stated that schools close the achievement gap by engaging parents. Parents
are often faced with challenges that hinder them from participating in their children’s learning.
For instance, insufficient time, busy schedule, language barriers, lack of communication,
demands of other children at home, uncertainty of what to do, lack of support from family,
community or school personnel are some of the barriers that many parents are faced with that
preventing them from getting involved (Wilder, 2014). Harris and Robinson (2016), stated
parents often feel isolated, alienated and disengaged regarding interactions with school personnel
at their children’s school.
Prior research findings showed that parental involvement impacted academic
achievement (Egalite, 2016). The degree of parental involvement is highest for elementary
school going children while parents of middle school kids are deemed to be less concerned in
studies but more in sports. According to Niia, Almqvist, Brunnberg and Granlund, (2015);
Mautone, Marcelle, Tresco, and Power (2015), parental involvement is a critical element of
academic triumph as well as social development and the parental involvement will be considered
as the methodology of the future study.

The significance of the study will be an insight of the relationship between the two
variables of parental involvement and student’s educational success has been considerably
undermined by both the social and the economic factors, which include inflexibility at work,
biased parental perceptions towards involvement, parents’ educational level, low economic status
or previous unpleasant encounters with the school administration (Alcena, 2014; Chaudhry,
Khaliq, Agha, & Hassan, 2015).
