Abstract
Main purpose of this report is to identify the impact of parental mental health on growth of
young children. In order to accomplish this purpose, number of activities was done effectively.
Literature review was completed by using secondary data from previous studies. Different
methods were applied for gathering primary data such as questionnaire, quantitative study etc.
Along with this, for analysing quantitative data, frequency distribution analysis was used by
researcher that is effective in analysing of data within less time. Apart from this, Ms-Excel was
used for making graphs and presenting information in graphical manner. Conclusion and
recommendation was competed by fulfilling research aim and objectives.

Background/Introduction
Mental illness is the situation that has negative impact over the person’s thinking, feeling,
behaviour and mood. The direct negative of this has over the day to day routine activities along
with ability of building effective relations with others. The conditions related to mental illness
are far common from our thinking. The main reason behind their unrecognition was behaviour of
people who did not wants to share feelings (Calam and et al., 2017). There were many reasons
due to which it created among the persons such as result of some vent, lifestyle, genetics and
environment. The impact of one’s mental health has direct over other who belongs to same
family. This has huge in case of children’s because this was the age when they need support for
growth. The stress of parent’s mental illness leads number of difficulties that has negative impact
over their growth activities.
Aim and objectives
Research Aim
Main aim of this research report is “To identify the impact of parental mental health on
growth of young children”. A study on UK.
Research Objectives
To develop basic understanding about the mental illness.
To analyse the reasons behind the development of growth difficulties among children’s
due to parents mental illness.
To determine the number of issues developed by children due to parents mental illness
and the ways through they can overcome from the negative impact of same.
Rationale for the research
Main rational for the research is to develop basic knowledge about the parental mental
health and its impact on children. This research is important because it will aid societies,

Literature Review
Explain about the mental illness in regards to the children?
According to Horwitz, (2020), a psychological instability is a condition that influences an
individual's reasoning, feeling, conduct or temperament. These conditions profoundly sway
everyday living and may likewise influence the capacity to identify with others. A psychological
well-being condition isn't the aftereffect of one occasion. Examination recommends different,
connecting causes. Hereditary qualities, condition and way of life impact whether somebody
builds up an emotional wellness condition. A distressing activity or home life makes a few
people progressively powerless, as do horrible life occasions. Biochemical procedures and
circuits and fundamental cerebrum structure may assume a job, as well. None of this implies an
individual is broken or that an individual, or his family, accomplished something "incorrectly."
Also, for some individuals, recuperation (remembering important jobs for public activity, school
and work) is conceivable, particularly when an individual beginning treatment early and assume
a solid job in own recuperation procedure.
What are the impact of mental illness on development of children?
According to Pierce, et al., (2019), there are numerous reasons behind the fact that the
children’s who are living with parent’s having mental illness faces large number of difficulties in
growth. This can be understood from the below provided description;
Lack of concentration: Such children’s lack in concentration because their mind revolves
around the activities of their parents and behaviour. This was the age when they need support of
parents to make decisions regarding future growth and living healthy life style.
Inability to understand right or wrong due to stress: The mental illness of parent’s
spreads more difficulties that resultant into stress. Further, the impact of such stress is highly
negative where children’s have no idea about right and wrong aspects.
What problems can children develop and ways for overcoming this problem?
According to Pierce et al., (2019), there were numerous number of problems which will be
developed by children’s due the parent’s mental illness. There are different problems that can
develop by children including stress, depression, other health issues, difficulty in growth,
development of bad habits, inability to get proper sleep and many others.

According to Williams and Poijula, (2016), there were number of ways of through which
such issues will be resolved. These ways are: consultation with professional doctor, focus over
developmental activities, create positive surroundings in home and spend large time in positive
atmosphere. These are more effective and essential ways that will be helpful in overcoming of
issues associated with the mental illness.
Methods and Methodologies
Research methodology refers to the important section of report because it will support in
collection as well as analysing of information regarding specific field of study. The detailed
description of all the aspects that are covered under this are defined below;
Research design
This is a basic procedure that will be utilized by researcher for gathering and dissecting
information in regards to the subject. There are three strategies for research structure which are
qualitative, quantitative or mixed strategy. All these are fundamental for completing
investigations but in respect to the completion of current research upon the topic of parent mental
illness impact over the growth of young children, quantitative research design will be used
because it assist investigator by providing numerical information. This research design will also
support researcher in selection of large sample that results in attainment of valid outcomes. This
was the reason that the same is using for carrying further research. Qualitative or mixed
techniques are not proper in respect to the current theme because it requires great amount of
sources and time in collection of qualitative data (Grove and Reupert, 2017).
Data collection methods
There are two sources and methods of data collection such as primary and secondary. For
gathering primary type of information, questionnaire is a more useful source or tool because it
support in gathering of reliable and valid information. (Gellatly and et al., 2019). for gathering
secondary type of information, there are various sources including magazines, articles, books etc.
All these are appropriate sources that were used by researcher for literature review.
Sampling strategy
This is the process which is uses by researcher for easy selection of sampling numbers.
These are of two types such as Probabilistic and non-probabilistic. The method that will be
useful for implementing probabilistic sampling strategy is simple random sampling. On the other

hand, the method which will be helpful in implementing of non-probabilistic sampling strategy is
convenience sampling. In respect to the current investigation, the method which will be best for
selecting sample size is simple random sampling under probabilistic type. This is so because this
will provide an opportunity to select large sample within limited period of time as compared to
non-probabilistic method of sampling.
Sample size and types of participants
To completing the research and gathering of information, 50 respondents are selecting as
sample size by researcher randomly with the aid of probabilistic sampling. These respondents are
general public and families. The main cause behind selection of these is connection with
children’s and observing nature of surroundings. This will help them to effectively present views
on the topic that how mental illness of parent impact the growth of children’s (Lieberman, Ippen
and Dimmler, 2018).
