The name of the article is “Minimizing Competition with Parents”. This article talks about
the competition between the teachers and the parents. The article talks about the insecurity of
the parents due to their children being more attached to the teachers and the care takers
however it is necessary for parents to understand the emotional connectivity between the
parents and the children where children become emotional seeing their parents. The other
factors are teachers feeling superior by trying to prove that they know the children better than
the family members. The article provides a list of things the teachers can do to main a healthy
atmosphere one being to make the parents feel that they are at the top in the lives of their
child. This is something I agree with as parents give birth to their child and this bond paves
way for insecurity if they are not considered to be the most important part of their children’s
lives. The bond between the parents important in order to strengthen family ties in the near
future.
The article “Helping Parents to be Advocates for their Children” states that parents need to be
advocate for their children and they tend to think about their own children that makes them
their advocates. This is an important factor as parents need to know about their children like
their performance, their behavior and many more in order to understand their overall
performance and wellbeing. In this article it states that teachers need to ask the dreams they
have for their child. I believe this is an important question to ask that will help the teacher to
treat and help develop children in that manner. This is an important thing for a teacher to ask
the parents as children after their house spend the most amount of time at school. Teachers
should know the dreams that the parents have for their children in order to contribute
positively and help the parents achieve and fulfill the dreams that later benefits the children
and paves way for a better future.
The article “Focusing on Family Strengths” talks about the fact that every family goes
through a rough patch that might affect their children. The role of the teacher is to be an ally
and help in comforting the parents by pointing out their positives and their strengths rather
than pointing out their inefficiency during this period. I agree to this point as pointing out the
failures might demotivate the parents and telling someone their strengths and appreciating
them gives them a sense of confidence that helps in bouncing back from the situations. This
strengthens family ties as this help the family focus more on the positives and be aloof of all
the challenges that they are facing and that may crop up in the near future. Focusing on the
positives helps in making effective changes, dealing with problems efficiently that builds a
better future and makes the bond strong thus strengthening family ties that paves way for a
healthy and a happy family.
