If there is a game that captivates the fascination and attention of both children and
adults around the globe, call it soccer. It is also popularly known as futbol. Regardless of
one’s culture, language, or residing continent, one will always find himself relating to people
who have soccer as their single interest. The idea and the concept of the soccer game
enamored me the first time I played the sport. There is a net attached to a rectangular frame
from which you are supposed to put the ball at its back. It is more difficult when played but
simple when said. I grew up playing the sport at different schools and clubs. It turned out that
my passion for soccer took a center-stage in my life. Scoring the winning goal in the world
cup became a consistent daydream. Whenever I was walking, I pretended to be having a
round ball together with 32 panels at my feet and my sole goal was to pass everyone who was
ahead of me. I wasn’t selective on the places of play as I could play anywhere ranging from
beaches, tennis courts, streets to bus stops. Every Friday afternoon, I was mesmerized with
joy and excitement of running home to go and play soccer with my friends. My playing could
only be stopped by my mother who could force me to go inside the house. It’s that passion
for soccer that influenced my training hard and improved my skills. While in the field, the
only thing that mattered to me was the present moment and to deliver my absolute best.
I was motivated by the football serene where the crowd could beat the January night
cold by wrapping themselves with blankets, the working together of my team like a well-
designed machine and the experience created by the frigid breeze against my face while
running. These are the moments characterized by immense pressure and split-second
decisions and which I live for. Contrary to the thinking of many people that soccer is played
with your feet, soccer is also a mental game as any experienced player can testify. Due to my

passion for the game, I find myself with that constant drive of learning more and also
teaching others. There is always a challenge associated with the game which mostly involves
facing a new obstacle or learning a new concept. Through hard work and commitment, you
can overcome the awkward and frustrating moments and eventually achieve your goals. My
teammates, family members, and coaches are always there for support and assessment. I
decided to try-out for the high school soccer team while I was joining the 9th grade. Despite
the slim chances, I trained relentlessly and during the selection day, I was among those
players who were picked for the varsity soccer team. This came with both excitement and
surprise. Throughout my educational career and my daily life, I utilize the skills I acquired
from experience. I would conclude by saying that on top of motivating me never to give up,
soccer gives me unforgettable moments. That’s why soccer remains and will remain part of
my life.
