INTRODUCTION
The current essay will follow thesis statement that is surrounding around Life experience
of a 40-year-old Jack Simpson for- patient experience and partnering in care. So in this case
scenario which is based upon Jack and his life after he turned 40, including accidents which he
encountered and how he spent his days in hospital. Within this essay, further relevant theories
and frameworks will be discussed like person and family centred care, nursing governance, code
of ethics for nurse and National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards framework. Other
than these identification and explanation of ineffective and effective care with displaying
patient’s care experience and its impact will be also mentioned. This essay also covers
suggestions of how partnering in care strategy will improve health and experience of patient.
BODY OF ESSAY
Identifying relevant theories and framework
All the theories and framework provided in above section like nursing governance, code
of ethics for nurse, National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards framework and patient
or family centred care are important (Lachman, Swanson & Winland-Brown, 2015). The given
scenario is about an accident of Jack which took place just after his 40th birthday, and while he
was hospitalised, he shared his interests and experiences. He was fond of listening to traditional
rock and roll music while working out in gym as well.
He met with an accident while saving someone other’s life. Jack’s lower back and disc at
back was ruptured after which he had to spend 12 nights in a private hospital. At the time when
he was admitted in hospital, he found that nurse who was serving him played a very crucial role.
This role of nurse will be based on code of ethics for nurse, nursing governance and National
Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (New national code of ethics for nurses and
midwives, 2018).
As per the role of nurse who played significant part in recovery of Jack after his accident
came under code of ethics that formed a valid reason of discussing this framework. Under this
code, the most important priority for a nurse will be to care and treat their patients as well as
their family. They not only provide the basic and important information of patients, moreover
also tries to make them more comfortable (Code of ethics for nurses with interpretive statements,

2018). This code of ethics for nurse will be outlining on basis of moral, professional and ethical
behaviour as given by Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council.
With this, it also includes various educational and legislative standards in Australia under
misconduct of professional and discipline matter under management of Health and social care.
As included by Jones, (2016) there is some code of ethics for nurses like they must value for
nursing care of every patient and respecting or accessing quality of nursing and health care.
Analysing communication scenario
According to this current scenario, Jack identified that he received an effective care from
his nurse who was very professional and ethical in her behaviour. He had a very severe pain, but
it was managed and then he was able to start his work again just after 12 nights’ rest. The
meaning of effective care can be defined as giving proper, appropriate and accurate care to
patient at the time when he or she is suffering from pain or injury. There were many instances
when Jack regarded that treatment or care given by hospital was effective; in one of the
incidents, where Jack was given choice from surgery and physiotherapy. So hospital gave him
advice that instead of going with surgery which is risky he could go with physiotherapy and
exercise.
This is in view of Jack who received an effective care at the time when he was admitted
in a private hospital. He was assigned with very good and efficient nurse who looked after him in
proper, ethical and professional manner during his treatment period. While doctors also assisted
him during his recovery period which is also regarded as operative care in view of Jack. As per
the view of Martin-Misener & DiCenso, (2015) effective care of hospital, nurse and doctors are
very much essential that will be enabling patient to overcome physical and mental trauma.
Ineffective care on the other hand meant the time when hospital is not giving any sort of
accurate and appropriate treatment to its patients and hampering their care. Like in this case,
when Jack was suffering from the pain and trauma after his accident, where he got injured while
saving someone, he did not receive any sort of emotional care (Code of ethics for nurses with
interpretive statements, 2018). He was upset thinking about that person who met with that
accident, and in hospital, there was no one to talk about his emotional wellbeing after that
incident. Jack expected that he will receive emotional support from nurses and doctors incident
but this certainly did not happen.

According to Micek, Hampton & Kollef, (2018) it is required that hospital, nurse and
doctors must give full attention to needs and wants of patient in both physical and emotional
sense. This was not noticed in case of Jack as no one talked to him about how he was feeling
emotionally and what actually happened. So this is certainly more ineffective as per the point of
Jack who was in tension about that incident and also about the person who met with an accident
and was injured too.
Application of theory
Code of ethic for nurse is the most required framework which is carried on by
professional who is working in hospital for caring patients. The Australian Nursing and
Midwifery Council included new code of ethics that included ethical, professional and moral
behaviour of nurse and midwives (Townsend & Morgan, 2017).
By including educational and legislative standards and codes into each Australian state,
there will be a foundation for compact and composed application of statuary rules and policies
and if there will be any sort of misconduct at time of professional dealing or disciplinary matter,
then actions must be laid to combat it effectually.
The code of ethics for nurse will include that they must value certain things or points to
be remembered like that of:
 Providing quality care to all patients
 Ethically managing of all information
 Including informed decisions in way of patients
 Respecting and kindness of others and self as well
 Accessing nursing and health care quality for patients
 Value and respect to diverse people
 To promote wellbeing and health in way of sustainable environment
According to Lachman, Swanson & Winland-Brown, (2015) it is included that if Code of
Ethics are followed by nurse at all hospitals, then this will certainly improve patients experience.
With the use of Code of Ethics by hospital, it will be useful to deal with condition of Jack.
As per this scenario, Jack was happy with the treatment as he got good treatment and the
doctors helped in taking correct decisions of whether he should go for surgery or physiotherapy
with good amount of exercise.

CONCLUSION
In the above case scenario that dealt with Jack Simpson who experienced both effective
and ineffective care while he was in a private hospital for 12 nights. There are many conclusions
that are drawn regarding his current situation as he met with an accident and after getting
admitted for his treatment where the entire staff took very good care of him. It could be
concluded that the care which he received was effective but not ineffective with underlying
incident from doctor giving him advice of taking physiotherapy instead of surgery.
