to present the theories, nursing philosophy, nursing governance standard, value statement,
and nursing principles. Facilitated sense making is the theory used to involve the patient’s
family in nursing care. It helps in involving family members in nursing care, patient
education, and decision making (Davidson, 2017). Nursing philosophy that is related to
family centered care is strengths based nursing. It is implanted in the nursing ethics of family
focused nursing care (Gottlieb, 2017). Ethical code of nursing supporting the family focused
nursing care is communication and involvement in decision making (Quenot, 2017). Standard
2 of NSQHSS partnering with the consumer is essential for superior health care. This essay
discusses how the use of theory, nursing philosophy, values and professional ethics can
improve the patient experience within the chosen case scenario.

Relevant theories and frame works explain the importance of family focused nursing care. It
also helps in providing the quality of health care and speedy recovery of the patient. Nursing
philosophy supports the case scenario strength based nursing (Gottlieb, 2017). It is farmed
on the basis of the code of ethics and standards of practice in nursing (Quenot, 2017). It states
that the involvement of the family in nursing care improves the health condition of the client
under nursing care and promotes the sharing of information (Ranse, 2016). Acquiring
information is the fundamental right of the patient and his relatives. According to NSQHSS
the, standard 2 nurses should involve patient and his relatives in nursing for the betterment of
patient and superior health care (NSQHSS, 2012). Erikson’s 8 Stages states that Integrity Vs
Despair is a common psychological issue found among adults above the age of 65.

and code of ethics and standards of practice. All the related theories and frameworks
emphasize the importance of quality nursing care. Family focused nursing care is involving
the patient’s relatives of the patient in all the aspect of nursing care (Ranse, 2016). It also
involves the delivery of information, the involvement of family members in decision making
and health education. Code of ethics in nursing and standards of practice emphasizes the
importance of family focused nursing care. It eliminates the unnecessary fear and anxiety

about the hospitalization, disease condition, recovery, complication, and decision making
(Quenot, 2017). The essential role of a nurse is to encourage the active participation of the
patient’s relatives in nursing care. Explain all the procedures both to the patient and to his
relatives assisting the patient.
Analysis of the Scenario
The case scenario states that the patient is not provided with holistic nursing care. The case
clearly explains that family focused nursing care is not provided to the patient. Mr. Jack
states that he was suffering from intense pain and it was constant. It shows that nurses caring
for jack did not enquire about the pain and its intensity. His also states that he was in the
midst of old patients which made him feel bad. It shows that nurse assigned to Mr. Jack did
not ask him about his preference of bed and place. He reveals that the nurse caring for him
was helping him in decision making. He was happy about being under the wings of the nurse,
but he also stresses that she was providing limited information. The information provided by
the nurse was not complete. He also states that the information was not helpful in decision
making. It shows that the nurse did not provide information about other surgeons, different
location, and metropolitan sort of city. He was confused and pushed to make the decision to
go for surgery. His statement shows that family focused nursing care was not provided
(Ranse, 2016). So, he ended up in bitter hospitalization experience. In spite of some
ineffective nursing care experience, he also records effective nursing care experiences.
Mr. Jack states that nurses are bridging doctors and patients. A nurse communicates the in
formations which were not delivery of information by doctors. His statement shows that he
was doing his office work in a hospital which was not objected by any of the nurses.
According to his statement, nurses play a critical role not only providing information to the
patients but also to try and keep them comfortable. He explains that nurses are approachable
and provides needed information at all the circumstances. He was winged by a nurse who
helped him in decision making. They also provided treatment options and related in
formations. He stresses that doctors are providing limited options but nurses provide explains
out of the box. He states that he was feeling supportive and comfortable. She also provided
information about the proposed treatment. The nurse also instructed him to clear all the
doubts during the doctor’s visit. He clarifies that nurses look out for the patient’s wellbeing
professionally. Nurses were supporting him and remove the fear and anxiety of the patient.
They also guided him for the promotion of health and speedy recovery (NSQHSS, 2012).

Family focused care is the only solution for many issues underpins with hospitalization.
Family focused nursing care enclose the health benefits like decreased in Nosocomial
infections, less duration in hospitalization and speedy recovery of the patient. Strength based
nursing philosophy is mutual support for the person providing nursing care and the person
receiving nursing care (Gottlieb, 2017). According to the case scenario, the patient’s family is
not involved in the nursing care, which may lead to broken information delivery between
patient, nurse and patient’s family (Ranse, 2016). Broken communication or improper
communication is the primary cause of the issues in the case scenario. Mr. Jack states that he
was suffering from intense pain, which was not communicated to nurse and doctors. His also
states that he was in the midst of old patients which made him feel bad. It shows that nurse
assigned to Mr. Jack did not ask him about his preference of bed and place.
Code of ethics states that participation of the family in nursing care improve the health
condition of the patient and promotes the delivery of information. Details about the patient
need to be communicated to the patient’s relatives and family (Quenot, 2017). In the case
scenario, Mr. Jack states that a nurse was winging him in decision making. According to

state that nurse should involve patient and patient’s relatives and family members in nursing
care for the quality health care. It emphasizes the importance of patient and his relatives’
participation in health services (NSQHSS, 2012). In the case scenario patient was feeling
supportive and comfortable; he also states that nurses were approachable. According to his
statement nurses plays a critical role not only provides information to the patients but look
out for the patient’s wellbeing professionally the nurse also instructed him to clear all the
doubts during the doctor’s visit.
