Introduction:
patient experiences and partnering in care are corelated with the each other. Partnering
with the patient while providing care is proved to improve the patient experience (Duffett, 2017).
This essay focusses on the experience of the patient, where they have been involved in their
treatment. The case scenario that has been selected for the essay is of 40 year old man named as
jack, who had a disc rupture. the Florence nightingale nursing philosophy has been mentioned in
the essay, which primarily grounded on the basis of providing caring and safe environment for
the patient in order to reduce the mental as well as physical well-being of the patient. the code of
conduct that has been discussed in the assignment is the patient dignity. The standard 2 of the
National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards, which is partnering with consumers is
also detailed in the essay along with the Erikson’s 8 stage framework.
Body:
Nursing philosophy is demarcated as the belief or value of the nurse that should be kept
in mind during the treatment of the patient (Mackintosh-Franklin, 2016). Florence nightingale
nursing philosophy is one of the most common nursing philosophy that aims to provide caring
sand safe environment to the patient to improve the well-being of the patient (American Nurses
Association. (2019). In the case study, it is observed that the nurse aimed to provide high quality
care to the patient based on her values, beliefs and ethics. The patient got proper care by the
nurse which not enhance the patient experience but also impacted positively on the health of the
patient.

According to the principle of the code of conduct of the nurse formulated by the Nursing
and Midwifery Board (2019), patient centred care is one of the most effective method to enhance
the patient outcomes, which is evident in the case of jack. At each and every phase, the nurse
considered the patient’s preferences and needs for better treatment.
According to the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (2019),
partnership with consumers have a direct impact on the health of the patient. The patient must be
involved in the decision that has been taken related to the treatment of the patient (Keohane et
al., 2018). In the case study of the jack, he was involved in the care and he himself chose
physiotherapy over surgery.
Erikson’s 8 stage of psychological development includes (Klimstra & Denissen, 2017)
Trust vs Mistrust: In the first stage, the nurse gained the trust of the jack and the doctor
has gained mistrust.
Autonomy vs shame/doubt: In this stage, the patient started saying about his preferences
and the needs that is he chose physiotherapy over surgery.
Initiative vs guilt: The patient took the initiative to go for physiotherapy and will take it
seriously for faster recovery.
Industry vs inferiority: at this stage patient started comparing with the other individual,
who are able to walk on his own.
Identity vs role confusion: At this stage, the patient identified that he can recover, if he
will take the physiotherapy seriously.

Intimacy vs isolation: At this stage, the patient had manged to establish a therapeutic
relationship with the nurse.
Generativity vs stagnation: The patient found his life goals, that is went back to his earlier
life.
Integrity vs despair: This stage focusses on the experience of the patient.
Analysis:
Effective care to the patient in the healthcare setting aims to increase the patient health
outcomes and also fasten the recovery process, whereas in the other hand, the ineffective care
leads to further deterioration of the health and decreases the patient outcomes. In the case study
of jack both effective and ineffective care has been mentioned.
Ineffective care is termed as the care that does not involves the needs and preferences of
the patient and leads to poor health outcomes. In the case study, it is observed that the patient had
experienced I effective care from the general practitioner. He did not received appropriate care
from the general practitioner and hence does not get therapeutically attached to the doctor. They
did not involve jack In his care plan and also not tried to build a rapport with the patient which
reduces the patient experience. He did not like the way of treatment that has been offered by the
general practitioner.
Effective care is termed as the care that has been provided to enhance the health outcome
of the patient. By observing the case study of the jack, it can be stated that the nurse that has
been assigned to take care of the patient knows how to build a rapport with the patient. Due to
the effective care of the patient, the experience of the patient has increased, which resulted to

quick recovery of the patient (Long et al., 2017). According to jack, physiotherapy worked best
for him as compared to the surgery, which is suggested to him by the nurse only. The jack
confers the nurses as the lines that connects the dot and provide better care according to the
health condition of the patient. effective care also involves trust between the patient and the
nurse, which is evident in the case study.
The case study of the jack includes both ineffective care which has been received from
the general practitioner and effective care, which is provided from the nurse. According to the
(Conroy et al., 2017). During the effective care, the patient has been involved in the care plan
that is a strong partnership has been evaluated between the patient and the nurse, which tends to
increase the recovery process, improve the health outcome and in the case of ineffective care,
low health outcome and slower recovery process has been observed (Duckett et al., 2015).
Application
The Florence nightingale philosophy, Code of conduct- person centred care, standard 2:
Partnering with consumers, Erikson frameworks are used as strategies of the partnering in care
that aims to enhance the health outcomes (American Nurses Association, 2019). The Florence
nightingale philosophy aims to improve the health outcome of the patient by providing safety
and care to the patient.
The code of conduct of the nurse; person centred care focuses to plan the care of the
patient by focussing on the needs and preferences of the patient. it is observed that the patient
health outcomes in the case of the person-centred acre is high as compared to general care

Standard 2 of the NSQHS (2019), aims to enhance the health outcome of the patient by
involving the patient in the care plan by conducting a strong partnership between the patient and
the nurse.
Erikson framework helps in analysing the treatment and recovery pattern of the patient.
Conclusion
From the above discussion, it is concluded that while treating the patient, it is important
for the nurse to increase the partnership of the patient and the family, as it can lead to enhanced
patient experience. From the above case study, it can be stated due to the role of nurse during the
treatment of the patient, the clinical experience of the jack has been increased, due to which even
after the five years he did not forget who had taken care of him during the disc rupture. In the
above essay, the Florence nightingale nursing philosophy has been mentioned in the essay,
which primarily supported on the basis of delivering high quality patient care and safe
environment for jack, in order to reduce the mental as well as physical well-being of the patient.
the nurse must maintain the dignity of the patient, which is the among the codes and conduct of
the nursing that is mentioned in the essay. Apart from that, the essay also contains, standard 2 of
the NSQHS standard, which deals with the partnering with consumers to increase patient
experience and the 8 stage of Erikson’s framework.
