PATIENT EXPERIENCE
Self reflection
I think as a patient receiving care services from a health organization some
of the features are of prime importance which further determines the quality and
the standards of the care services. In this respect, the health care aspect could be
broken down into a number of components. Some of the attributes in this respect
are staff sensivity to addressing inconvenience and emotional needs of the patient.
However, I have often felt that communication can serve as barrier in addressing
the care requirements to the health care professionals. I have often found it difficult
to express the actual health concerns faced by me to my support carers. I will
mostly attribute this to the presence of language barriers within the clinical setup.
Therefore, I think involvement of a medical interpreter can help in assuring an easy
communication flow process. This helps in the exchange of vital information
which is pivotal to the just delivery of appropriate care services.
During my stay in the Nightingale hospital I had come across a number of
flaws in the patient centred care of the hospital. The staff and the family members
of the patients were not involved in the decision making process. This was in
violation of the informed decision making approach of the hospital. Additionally, I
felt that nurses were less informative of the care planning and the decision making
aspect. Thus, i felt that sufficient autonomy was not provided to me as a support
user. However, overall the staffs were very responsive and quick in redressing the
issues faced by me. The staffs were competent and sufficiently skilled assuring that
high quality care services were provided to the patient. I felt that the overall quality
could be improved further depending upon the aspect of pain management. I was
admitted to the hospital with a complaint of frozen shoulder. The staff though well
equipped could only manage sufficiently high doses of morphine for relieving the
pain. The staff could have been more equipped and knowledgeable regrading the
multidisciplinary aspects of pain.
