Introduction:
Patient experiences and the association in care are the two terms which are correlated
with each other. For the enhanced patient experience, it is important for the healthcare staff and
the nurse to provide quality health care to patient (Oxelmark et al., 2018). There are many
different approaches which can be used to enhance the patient outcomes as well as the patient
experience. One of the utmost current methods is to involve the patient’s views and concern on
the care plan. The person centred maintenance of the patient enhances the experience of the
patient as well as speeds the recovery process of patient (Ross, Tod & Clarke, 2015). The essay
focusses on the case study of a 40 year old individual named, jack who recently had an accident,
and resulted todisc rupture. This discussion focusses primarily focuses on the care that has been
provided to him at hospital and his experience based on that. In the discussion the Florence
nightingale theory of philosophy which primarily focusses on the providing safe and quality care
to the patient to enhance the physical and mental well-being. The assignment also includes the
nursing code of conduct that is the patient’s dignity. Erikson’s 8 stage frame work has also been
included in the assignment along with the NSQHS standard 2, which is partnering with the
consumers.
Discussion:
The case study chosen in the essay is of jack, who had an accident, where his discs were
ruptured. After interviewing the patient, it is detected that patient had a great experience with the
care he has been provided with.

In the interview, different positive points of the nurses are highlighted and it is observed
that they had incorporated different values and philosophy of the nursing to enhance the patient
outcome.
Nursing philosophy is well defined as the actual beliefs, values and perception of the
nurses which should always be considered while treating the patient (Tanaka et al. 2018). One of
the most common nursing philosophies is the Florence nightingale nursing philosophy, which
mainly involves the care of the patient in terms of safety and quality. By giving safe and quality
care to patient, the nurses successfully enhance the mental and physical wellbeing of the
individual (American Nurses Association, 2019). Among the case study of the jack, it is
observed that the nurses or he healthcare workers which involves in the care of the patient aims
to provide appropriate care to the patient founded on their beliefs, values, and perception. As a
result the wellbeing consequence of the patient is enhanced as well as the patient experience is
also enhanced.
Rendering to Nursing and Midwifery Board (2019), the code and conduct of the nurses,
preserve the dignity of patient during the treatment of the patient is considered to be effective in
the treatment of the patient as well as also enhances the patient experience. If the dignity of the
individual suffering from disease is maintained, the patient feels more comfortable with the
health care setting and will be able to share their concern, that is observed in the case study of
jack, as each and every stage of the care, jack’s dignity has been maintained (Papastavrou,
Efstathiou & Andreou, 2016).
The NSQHS standard 2 is also observed in the above case study. According to National
Safety and Quality Health Service Standards. (2019), the NSQHS standard 2 focusses on

maintain a strong and effective partnership with the consumers. According to this standard, the
patient must be incorporated in each and every judgement associated to the cure of the patient
and consent of the patient must be taken before beginning any treatment. Jack was also involved
among all the decision taken by the nurse during the care plan and he went for the physiotherapy
instead of surgery as recommended by the doctors.
Erikson’s 8 stage of development is also observed in the case study which includes Trust
vs Mistrust, which is the 1st stage, as before the treatment the nurse gained the trust of jack. 2nd
stage is Autonomy vs shame/doubt, where the preference of the patient is considered regarding
the treatment. 3rd satge is Initiative vs guilt, where jack took the initiative to undergo
physiotherapy. 4th stage is Industry vs inferiority, where the jack underway paralleling him with
other patient who can walk on their own. 5th stage is Identity vs role confusion, where jack
identified that physiotherapy is more effective for him. 6th satge is Identity vs role confusion,
where jack holds an effective rapport with the nurse. 7th satge is Generativity vs stagnation,
where jack identified his goals and the 8th stage is Integrity vs despair, which discusses about the
jack’s experience (Young, 2018)
Analysis:
Effective care is designated as the enhanced care where as ineffective care focusses on
the reduced quality care (McCormack & McCance, 2016). In the above case study both effective
and ineffective acre has been identified.
According to Pérez Rivas et al. (2016), ineffective care has been identified in the case of
jack from the GP. As stated by the patient, he did not obtained suitable care from the doctor and

hence, his experience regarding the GP is not good as he did not like the approach of the general
practitioner.
The effective treatment of the patient is also observed as the nurses who are involved in
the treatment took great of the patient. He had established an effective relationship with them.
According to him, the nurse suggested her to go for physiotherapy instead of surgery. Due to
this, jack had a great experience with the nurses.
Application:
All the above mentioned strategy such as, Florence nightingale nursing philosophy,
nursing code of conduct, NSQHDS standard and Erikson’s 8 stage framework purposes to
advance the health condition of the patient.
Florence nightingale nursing philosophy is commonly used in the healthcare setting. The
primary aim of the Florence nightingale nursing philosophy is to improve the physical as well as
mental wellbeing of the patient and enhancing the wellbeing consequence of the patient by
giving safe and quality care.
Other strategy that is used in the essay is the implementation of the NSQHS standard 2,
which is partnering with the consumers. The main aim of the NSQHS standard 2 is to improve
the wellbeing consequence of the patient as well as the patient’s experience. The aim of the
patient can be achieved by the relating the patient into the nursing care plan by maintaining a
strong corporation with the patient.
The nursing code and conduct is also mentioned as strategy which also looks on the
improvement of the individual’s care by maintaining the dignity of the jack. According to

Nursing and Midwifery Board (2019), the dignity of the patient should be maintained always as
it makes the client more comfortable with the environment of the healthcare setting.
Erikson’s 8 stage framework aid in enhancing the care of the patient. It critically analyse
the care and treatment process of the patient and evaluates the recovery process based on that
(Jordan & Tseris, 2018).
Conclusion:
From the above essay, it can be concluded that enhanced care of the patient can give rise
to the increased patient’s experience. From the above discussion, it is stated that involving the
patient in the care plan helps in enhancing the experience of the patient. Different strategies has
been mentioned in the essay such as, Florence nightingale nursing philosophy, nursing code of
conduct, NSQHDS standard and Erikson’s 8 stage framework which can lead to better patient
experience and enhanced health outcome. By analyzing the Florence nightingale nursing
philosophy in the above discussion it can be stared that, it aid in enhancing the mental and
physical well-being of patient, by giving safe health care to the patient. For the better treatment
of the individual, it is significant for the nurse to maintain the dignity of the individual as
mentioned in the nursing codes and conduct. Alongside with that, the Erikson’s 8 stage
framework and the NSQHS standard 2 is also discussed in the essay, which aims to improve the
patient outcomes by focusing on the partnering of the consumers while taking care of the patient.
