Introduction
In healthcare organizations, a patient lift could be a sling lift or patient in and out of the bed lift.
Lifting device allows assisting a patient in a healthcare organization and nursing homes by
offering services of patient lifting in special conditions by using electrical or hydraulic sources.
Sling lifts are mainly used for the patient who could not able to move or whose mobility is very
hard. These patients could be of any age and lifting system affects the daily life of these patients
with ease of doing. It is so powerful and tested for loading heavyweight patient that allow
caregivers to reduce their stress for moving a patient, and it can easily reduce the number of staff
that is required to lift and move a patient. The biggest advantage of lifting is it reduces the
chance of injury that may be possible during lifting of a patient. But it also has a dark side like a
normal mistake during patient lifting may result in orthopedic injury or sometimes can because
of improper use of the lifting system. So it is very important to make a good investment on
training session of staff on the use and maintenance of patient lifting system. The whole paper is
contributed to gathering what kind of training and maintenance they needed from the supplier
organization and evaluation of the cost of training that will invest.

Task1
Proposed project and its need
Bethesda Hospital is a prestigious healthcare organization who dedicatedly works on the
improvement of internal core business functions to provide the best care to their patient. So as a
part of a team of an ongoing project for patient lifting in and out of bed, who works in a
healthcare organization Bethesda Hospital, designed a patient lifting system and named it
Premium Patient Lifter. All the equipment for Premium Patient Lifter needed to procure, and the
supplier is not in list of approved supplier. The installation and use of the system required some
kinds of special training and maintenance of the system from the supplier organization. Premium
Patient Lifter is a special kind of system which is capable of loading a patient to lift out or in a
patient from bed using the manual or electric power source. The Premium Patient Lifter consists
of rechargeable battery and other manual equipment could be operate using hydraulics.
The equipment which is supplied by the supplier is a mast, a boom, spreader bad, a sling and
number of clips to secure the sling. The Premium Patient Lifter could be operating manually or
through hydraulic power. Premium Patient Lifter has six major drivers called a support base
which includes caster that allows lifting to roll, mast, boom, lifting system, swivel bar, and seat
also called sling. This model has a good quality of caster-brake to prevent the base of the
Premium Patient Lifter from moving during the lifting process. This is a U-Shape design that
connects with a base to boom and supports the lifting process.
Bethesda Hospital always keen to have a system that could enable them to handle a patient who
has a serious injury, disabled patient and to make improvement in the labour ward. The
organization needed to have a Premium Patient Lifter to safely enable staff to lift a patient during
caring and to assist the staff in handling a patient who is weak, obese or disabled. The goal
behind preparing the design is to provide a Premium Patient Lifting solution that can facilitate
hospital staff to lift out or into the bed as per need by caring in all safety and health issues.
During this design, we also have considered the ward size and critical aspect to tailor the design
that could best be fitted within the environment of the hospital. The ultimate goal to consider this
product is to completely manufacture this using the material that is available in-country domain
(Fda.gov, 2019).

Critical evaluation for selected life cycle
For the implementation of the premium patient lifter, we have selected “Standard” Project Life
Cycle. Within this kind of project life cycle the first phase is planning; allow preparing
objectives and identification of need. A feasibility study has been performed to document
business case with all recommended solutions and a final recommendation solution has been
identified. Once the first phase of the recommended solution completed and approved, it is
moved to another step that is the implementation phase. This phase allows getting all equipment
that is needed to design a patient lifter. During the installation of the device, it is very important
to maintain control of the overall system and communicate with another member of the team.
The whole process of configuration and installation are recorded to match the requirement
identified in the initial phase. Once the installation phase is complete, it is required a training
phase to operate it. Within the training phase, supplier organization assigns an engineer as per
the demand of client organization that is Bethesda healthcare organization and provides training
sessions for controlling and monitoring of the system. Once the training session is complete now,
in the end, it is a time of testing. Testing phase states about efforts of all the above phase that is
implemented that was performed. During testing, a staff controls the premium patient lifter by
checking its installation, connection and by lifting a person. Once all phase is completed, it is
required to assign an engineer for maintenance of powerlifter.
Suitable methodologies
To ensure safety and health use of lifting system, it is most important to have risk assessment and
best training session for the staff, nurse and technical team. Best training sessions allow avoiding
the unconditional issues that may be raised with the system. It is recommended to care about

for use and also with requirement of maintenance. Use of proposed project, caring of system and
equipment, procurement of equipment and etc. are the major risks that could be rise with the
proposed project. These risks associated with lifting, transferring, and mobility of the patient. A
Premium lifting patient sometime could raise a condition and be a deplorable, inefficient and
also hazardous for the staff. It also could because suffering and serious injury to the patient
including extreme pain, skin tears, dislocation, and sometimes fracture. Research has

The issues that can be raised during the procurement of equipment for the patient lifting system

Creating a policy that only allows purchasing equipment after detail testing and measuring
the safety requirements.
Creating requirements in tender about the health and safety to match the criteria of
government legislation.
The recommendation that should be quoted within the contract for the maintenance of the system
that is purchased from the supplier should include:
Preventive maintenance- The healthcare organization should make a contract with the
supplier organization for preventive maintenance to identify risks and make improvements.

concept and successfully design the proposed project. To select the team member, it is very
important to analyze all departments of the healthcare organization. As we have analyzed the
organization has several leaders, technical experts, and CIOs who can contribute effectively in
installation and configuration of the proposed project. The following role should be covered to
create an effective team.
Clinical leadership- The team member from the clinical leadership can effectively test and
implement the equipment and could resolve the minor issue arise in the process.
Technical leadership- The individual member from the technical expertise has deep
knowledge about the equipment handling, area inspection for the suitability, power
connections and humidity of the environment.
Day to day leaders- The selection of team member with having leadership skills in day to day
activities can help to plan the whole day working activities with considering the issue and the
possible solutions. This type of team member could help in data collection, analysis and
quick change in the implementation plan and also can effectively communicate with the other
team member to perform activities.
Project sponsors- A member from the project sponsor has all the skills to monitor the
expenditure for equipment, detail knowledge about the dark side of the equipment and can
collaborate with higher authorities of management and suppliers. This type of member didn’t
participate in the day to day activities with the team. He/she can join the team as per the
requirement to check the progress of project design and assist the team in obtaining the
required assets and in resolving the barriers.
